Hi FBGers,

Many of your have become familiar with the Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC) and we would like to introduce to you a new fantasy football format we have created for the 2009 season. It's called The Terminator !! The FFPC players are excited to try out this new format - we think you will be too. Here's the concept:

The Terminator is based on the FFPC Draft Experts league format, which is basically your typical "best ball" league, with optimized player scoring, no lineup submission or waiver wire pickups. But, by adding just a single tweak to the standard Draft Experts, it completely alters it and creates this brand new concept that's certain to be exciting, challenging and quite unique.

That one tweak is: Each week, Terminator team owners are required to drop a single player from their rosters. That's right - simply terminate any player they choose. There will be no pickups at any time during the season for any reason - only these weekly drops. These weekly drops will begin starting prior to NFL Week 1 and continue through the week prior to NFL Week 16. Team owners will be able to execute their weekly drops anytime between Tuesday morning and up to 5 minutes prior to each week's NFL games. Any player or position may be chosen to be dropped and it is up to the skill of each team owner to determine which specific player and/or position to drop on a weekly basis. During the first weekly drop, prior to NFL Week 1, each team will drop one player and their roster will go from 26 to 25 players. In week two, it will go from 25 down to 24 players. In week 3, it will go from 24 down to 23, etc. Prior to NFL week 16, each team will make their final weekly drop and their roster will be down to 10 players entering Week 16.

Sound interesting? Well, there are a bit more details but that's the main idea. For more information, please go to The Terminator webpage.

The 2009 Draft Experts Terminator will be a Satellite Tournament consisting of 5 leagues with 12 teams per league, for a total of 60 teams. Almost 40 teams have already been reserved - 20 openings remain. The entry fee is $350 per team. Here are the GUARANTEED prizes:

League Prizes (for each 12-team league):

1st Place: Free Entry - 2010 FFPC Main Event with Events Fees ($1,525+ value) | Cash Option $1,500 Cash

2nd Place: Free Entry - 2010 Draft Experts Terminator Tournament ($350 value) | Cash Option $300

Anybody do these terminator leagues over at FFPC? This thread is from 15-ish years ago, but it's the only discussion I could find on this topic, surprisingly. In addition to the actual tournament ($350 entry), they have terminator leagues of various levels, in terms of cost (as low as $35). I like the concept because I'm not a huge fan of straight up best ball (never seem to do well in those), but I also only have so much time to manage waivers and stuff for several leagues. The terminator concept provides a piece of strategy that BB does not, while not requiring any roster management in-season beyond just one cut per week.

Basic concept for those not familiar is a 26-round snake draft with best ball scoring. Standard FFPC lineup requirement of QB-2RB-2WR-TE-2FLEX-PK-DST (10 total). Each week, beginning prior to Week 2, you must drop a player from your roster. This continues through Week 17, at which point cumulative best ball scoring for the 17 weeks wins the league. In theory, you're left in Week 17 with your 10-man lineup.... BUT there is no requirement that you must hold on to a kicker, defense, etc. You must DRAFT a full starting lineup, but after Week 1, you can go "rogue" and cut whatever position you want on a weekly basis. So, in theory, you could cut bait on kickers or defense altogether after Week 1 (or any time throughout the season).

Anyway, anybody done many of these? Any tips in terms of strategy? I'm starting a slow draft version today, so any advice anyone has would be appreciated. My main dilemma is whether to draft a pair of kickers and defenses, and aim to reach Week 17 with the full 10-man lineup, or whether it makes more sense to cut bait with any position and keep extra position players. I'm thinking of going with a plan that can be tweaked as the season progresses, depending on my roster. Not sure what that means, exactly. LOL. But, I'm guessing the season will somewhat dictate who I cut.
