The Tony Awards (1 Viewer)

That was a tremendous broadcast this year. From host to performances to speeches. Fantastic stuff.

Watched it with my wife who is a Hamilton fanatic at this point and thought it was pretty good award show (for how these things go).

I have listened to several Hamilton songs.  I don't get it.  Nice enough.  Nothing that gives me the chills.

Kind of see it as being diversity and rap that white people can wrap their arms around.

Kind of like a supporting category in cinema?
In everyday usage, a 5-line role may be "supporting" but isn't usually called "featured." A "featured" role (unless the speaker is just exaggerating) usually means a part that somehow stands out from the ensemble and bit players.

Originally, the Tony Awards were given to "Best Male (or Female) Star" and "Star" was defined as having billing above the title. Everybody else went into the "featured" category no matter how big the part. But over the years, the Tony committee has made so many exceptions, it's hard to say where a part will fall. From posts here, I get the sense that some consideration is given to how the producer defines a particular role.

I gotta hurry and finish one of my musicals before these idiots murder the medium for good & all. What a formless, witless collection of hackneyed, aspirational spew from this year's models.

Laurie Metcalf wins the Tony for the top actress . The 2 nominated from Angels in America probably split the votes there

I just heard it’s an 8 hour day to watch that, 3 hours, two hour break, 3 hours, can thatbhr right?
Wow didn’t know the length

WHAT IS THE RUNNING TIME FOR THE PLAY?

Part One, 2 hours and 40 minutes (incl 20 min interval)

Part Two, 2 hours and 35 minutes (incl 20 min interval)

We do recommend that you try to see both parts consecutively, but if seeing both Parts over consecutive performances does not work for you, you can choose to see Part One on a Wednesday matinee at 2pm or Thursday evening at 7.30pm and book Part Two on an alternative Wednesday evening at 7.30pm or Friday evening at 7.30pm at a later date.

Old pre School parent friend won the set Tony for that HP. Knew she moved to London for something...had no idea what

So is every production eligible every year? Or just new ones? Didn’t Hamilton crush this thing two years ago? Why no more wins?
