The Top 250 Forward (1 Viewer)

I did not include the actual names in the interest of preserving paid content; however, this is how the RBs (as an example) are ranked in the "sorted by position" ranking. Can somebody interpret this for me? (note that the numbers are not in order)

1 RB1

2 RB2

3 RB3

4 RB4

5 RB5

6 RB6

7 RB7

10 RB10

12 RB8

15 RB9

17 RB11

18 RB12

19 RB13

I also wanted to ask a question regarding the top 200. Is the list indicative of how a draft would go if it were conducted today?

Also, a question regarding trade values. If player A has a trade value of 1500 does that mean that it should require two players whose combined trade values at least equal 1500 for someone to part with player A? Is tha tthe idea of the trade value?

Most of all, the format confounds me.

Why not set it up like preseaason cheat/ranking sheets so we can have links to each position, with each position opening a new page - this one uber long list thing sucks and shukes me as to why they use it.

Curious if there is a rationale?

I took it to mean the players' relative worth. I don't think you should take anything you read anywhere as a bible, but should use all of it to increase your general knowledge. But, say for example, you have noticed that Frank Gore has been going crazy. He was drafted in the fourth round or later in some drafts, but his value to you and to another owner is clearly higher than Cadillac Williams and Lamont Jordan who went in the first round in most drafts. So, for trade purposes, you would place a much higher value on Gore than on Caddy. But how much more?Usually putting numbers in helps people quantify their feelings--why most people do their own projections. So, then you can line up a guy like Gore and say, what is Gore worth relatively? He might be worth an underperforming RB and a top receiver, or two middling receivers... or whatever. You can keep plugging the values in (assuming, of course, you agree with them. You should probably tweak them to your own feelings).Blindly following ANYTHING is probably going to be prone to some biases and errors. But taking your own informed beliefs combined with just Dodds' is better, and if you can get your hands on some other similar guides, that can all add up to a winning combo.

Yes this is similar to the Top 200 list I publish in the preseason. Some leagues actually redraft every few weeks so I publish the list in the two formats (Top 250 overall and by position).Yes that is essentially what the trade values are for. If Team A offers you Terrell Owens and Ahman Green for Rudi Johnson and Reggie Williams kind of thing. This helps to quantify what I think the offers are worth. The numbers come from the algorithm we use to determine auction values in the VBD App. I then tweak the top 1-10 values for better flow based on the players that occupy those slots. As everyone else has stated. This is just another tool on what I think the worth of the players going forward looks like. Things can change fast though which is why it is published each week.

Hey David,

Personally I find the top 250 to be one of the best features Footballguys offers. I use it a ton for trades; but I also find that it has tremendous value when considering waiver pickups to see where you value the player I am considering dropping vs. the one I am picking up. Please keep it up!

I agree, that's why it would be nice to have it a bit earlier on Tuesday (not at midnight).
