I'm not sure why we're posting an arbitrary 5 successive shows, but here's my 46-51 and I would stack it up against anyone's in here and you wouldn't have a chance.

I think everyone submitting lists is taking it very seriously but everyone has there own idea of what "greatest" means to them in how they want to craft their list. There is no single way to define it. The "greatness" of the exercise is getting a variety of viewpoints to broaden everyone's horizons. I mean getting everyone to remember how great Charlie's Angels was is priceless.
To be clear, I'm not ragging on anyones lists. I'm likely the last person that should be doing that. I do have my biasness and don't really think game shows and reality shows should even sniff the top 70 but if there are people that think Family Feud is one of the best shows of all time then who am I to say you're wrong. I'm bound to have some shows that people will think are stinkers. Though I think you could make an argument that shows like Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune (both that I like) are really good and deserve to be up there.
I think gators post hit the nail on the head and I was just momentarily confused.
For me, when I think of TV shows that matter it really focuses on dramas and sit coms. That is what I think of when I think of TV shows. There are some other type shows that fit the bill as "greatest" because of their uniqueness or concept or how much it was copied but by and large I stuck with the bread and butter of drama/sitcom for my list...........and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
I had over 200 shows that I had to whittle down to 70. It was not easy.
I had lots of nostalgia that I had to cut but kept some important shows that were part of and shaped my youth and some of those shows to me are timeless and would never see the lightnof day in today’s overly sensitive society.
There is also some serious heavyweights….and those made up the top 15-20 easy for me.
I stayed away from sports and documentaries and stuck with drama, sci fi, horror, historical, and lots of comedy. I also threw in some timeless game shows that are to this day constantly on.
What can't you do on TV these days due to today's overly sensitive society? Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black, Family Guy, Euphoria, Borat/Bruno, the Kids in the Hall revival, Key and Peele, 30 Rock, SNL, South Park... tons of violence, sex, nudity, jokes about any topic (race, sexuality, disability, really anything).
Modern streaming shows have more latitude with sex and language than theatrically released films because they don't have to deal with the MPAA rating system. There are huge commercial pressures on filmmakers to avoid R ratings for feature films while TV shows can drop that second F bomb in the first episode without any consequences.
Has nothing to do with F bombs and sex….and quite frankly it has to due with being able to make fun of ourselves and each other but this is absolutely not the thread nor place to discuss
It. But our country has lost its sense of humor and does not want to offend anyone. There are some great shows that absolutely would never be made today because of we made fun of each other in a more blunt manner. And it went both ways. Do I need to spell it out? Shows from the mid 70’s and 80’s in particular.
I mean hell there are people today who are appalled by Sixteen Candles for Christ sakes.

probably not. I maybe have seen some in syndication. Was he the host when there was this sort of southernish vibe where the families would sit still like a painting before the got introduced? That is my earliest memory.

Yes!!!! Family Feud with Richard Dawson was huge in my home as a little kid. And he was the best game show host…..and his role in the Running Man was perfect.

Just because we still laugh at shows from the 70s and 80s doesn't mean that people who weren't alive at the time might find them cringey. And vice versa.

Family Feud didn't make my list because there's a better version of the game, which placed in the 70s on my list and just barely didn't make my cut. It's called Pointless and is the reverse game, some episodes are on YouTube. It would have scored higher on my list but the British version drags out to 45 minutes because they interview the contestants a lot, it's nice to fast-forward through to just the questions and watch it in 15 minutes or so.
Anyway, instead of guessing the most popular answer to some random question like "what's your favorite pizza topping?", on Pointless, they survey 100 people to name as many answers as they can to a question that has a finite number of correct answers, then on the game show, the contestants have to give the most obscure answer they can think of, and get points for however many people in the survey gave the same reply. But... lowest score wins.
For example, if the question was "Name an actor in the movie DIE HARD", 90 out of 100 would name Bruce Willis, but, only 50 of 100 might name William Atherton, 25 might name Bonnie Bedilia, and if you could pull out an obscure answer like De'Voreaux White ("Argyle") or Hart Bochner ("Ellis"), those would score a perfect 0 points giving you a 'pointless answer' and a likely win. I think it's like the TV version of the Black Sheep game or whatever.
Yes, I'm a snob about my Family Feud type trivia games.

I'll bet I haven't seen some shows on your list either. That is the beauty of this.
When the final honorable mentions, runner ups, final 100, etc. get posted, I will then have a list of shows to watch that have been curated from my brothers in arms. People(had to include Krista and Mrs.) who love fantasy football. There are certain aspects re: taste we are aligned. Most likely I won't like all the shows, but I bet I will come across some new favorites.
First of all, if it is political to be anti-date rape, then I guess my post was political.
To be clear, I thought Sixteen Candles was hilarious when I first saw it. Of course I was young and my brain hadn't fully formed at that point (some might argue it still hasn't). Years later, after I'd grown up, married and had a daughter, I know longer found Jake (Michael Schoeffling) gifting his girlfriend Carolyn (Haviland Morris) to the Geek (Anthony Michael Hall). Carolyn, absolutely hammered, is then date raped by the Geek.
Hilarity ensues.
I'll drop it now. I responded to Tode's original post because I thought it was satire. Apparently I was off. Way off.
Anyway, back to the thread. Here's 5 that didn't make the cut.
71 Danger Five
72 Search Party
73 Chappelle Show
74 M*A*S*H
75 Parks and Rec

Hey I am not trying to be political about it….Sixteen Candles is still a hillarious movie and I truly believe the inference of date rape was overblown.
Yeah we can leave it at that. No one here is suggesting date rape is perfectly ok.
It’s kinda hard to avoid when discussions about shows from the 50’’s, 60’s, 70’s 80’s and heck even the 90’s are going to ensue.
I will definitely steer clear of being political…..but I am not a politically correct person when discussing things I love that some may find offensive in todays over sensitive social scene we are in. It’s gone overboard.
