Hated the movie in the '80's. Never expected to like this. Only watched because it was the first streaming show in the conversations for TV awards. Not sure it is a show to "like" or "enjoy", but its great TV.
First few seasons were pretty good, but they are just padding it out unnecessarily.
Final season coming up needs to lift to improve the show
Elisabeth Moss is excellent in everything ive seen her in

Any comparison points? Never saw it but always on the list of stuff I think I should watch
Real life lol

Footage for The Last Dance was happening when I was actually an NBA fan. I love Michael Jordan. Greatest NBA player of all time. Of all time. If he played today with today's rules he would go nuts. I loved that era of basketball. I've prolly watched this 4 times over. Great stuff

I originally had The League just outside the top 70 but put it back in my final revision

Lotta good bits from that one

Kegel the Elf :lmao:

Vinegar strokes

Whenever I get “stomach issues” from eating out I’ll often shout out Yobagoya!

Rafi was great in small doses but towards the end they relied too heavily on him
I love the entire series......except the weird Rafi/Dirty Randy thing in like Season 5 I think?

Fresh Prince was a syndication staple for me.
I wonder if the 3 stooges would seem as good today as it did at 2am after coming home from hanging out with friends.

Along those lines, I wonder how many older shows people ranked higher because we remember them as must watch when the reality was many were only watch (like the only thing half decent on).
It’s still awesome. It did not make my top 70 (in hindsight it should have) my favorite kind of comedy is physical comedy and they are the godfathers of that genre. Love Shemp and Curly……I skipped any of the newer episodes with Joe he stunk.
this is a FF site and only 8 of you had the show about FF on your lists?
Season one was hillarious the rest was utter crap television.

My question is how Beverly Hills 90210 got so much love from here. Prime-time chick soap opera, was surprised to see it make the cut.

It was a teen show when it aired that had an odd sort of global appeal amongst us. Everyone freshman year was watching it, even the nerdy cynical types like myself who would normally make fun of a show like this.

192 - Veronica Mars
I need to watch this show.
Never watched this but after a cursory review, I'm interested!
i havent watched any of the last 4 shows i don't think, but this one sounds interesting.

Based on this countdown I gave Veronica Mars a go. It's been very entertaining and definitely keeps you wanting to see where it's going. Not at all what I thought it would be like and that is a good thing. I am four or 5 episodes in so far and can't wait to get back to it.

I've hit rock bottom when I'm at a point in life where I'm defending 90210. Ha ha

The show was a cultural phenomenon that shaped the way kids for years dressed and cut their hair. It's peak years was a factor on how other products made commercials. It was a brand that created a blueprint for countless of these horrible shows. We still hear updates from that original cast. It's crazy.

I cannot think of anything all hat similar. It would be difficult to describe without getting too political as it portrays a "slippery slope" version of American politics enabled by world wide disaster of some sort that creates a society completely divided by class where a certain class is "too valuable" to be anything other than property and most others disposable on a whim. So 2027 America  Thus our "heros" and "villains" navigate that society, one way or another.

Californication - I was the high ranker at 14 and it would have been higher if it ended after season 6. That seems to be the theme of a lot of shows. Season 6 featured the very lovely Maggie Grace. Overall, Hank Moody was a complete mess of a person and it was fun watching his self destruction but it did get old. Him getting his act together and running off with Maggie Grace in season 6 would have been a great ending.

The League was ok. I enjoyed it but not enough to rank it in the top 70.

It's definitely more of a character show like Mad Men. The basic premise is that a man was sent to death row for like 18 years - as an 18 year old - for allegedly killing someone. Then there is a question about his conviction and he is released.

It may seem like a whodunnit - Did he kill her? If not who did? - but it's really not. That's not the point of the show.

The point of the show is to watch how the murder, his imprisonment, his release - how that all affects everyone involved. Especially him and his family.

It's slow but there is just some truly amazing work done. It's at times incredibly sad, then funny, then just ... complicated.

Great show.

I don't think I'd ever heard of this show, but it sounds fascinating. Thanks for the summary. I'm putting it on my list.

@Scoresman don't forget to update the first page. I've got peeps to send the updated list to who are eagerly awaiting the next installment!

I remember having a small B/W TV in my room when I was probably 11 or 12. Summers and weekends I often fell asleep to it. And watched Lil Rascals and Three Stooges Sunday mornings after my paper route and going back to sleep. I think my parents gifted me a larger color one a couple years later.
Was the paper you delivered Grit?

lol no. Dayton Daily News. Mon-Sat in the afternoons and Sunday mornings. Interestingly, in the 80's there were two newspapers in Dayton. The other one was delivered in the mornings except on Sunday.

There was a thread here following the show, but I don't know if it's still around. @simey was our group leader. It's a wonderfully unique show.

I love James Spader so much. He's amazing.
This is another show , like the Mentalist, where the lead is everything.
It went on a few seasons too long and the couple of hundred episodes are messy.
Should have ended it when the actress playing Elizabeth Keane left.
Storylines often are ludicrous
But the saving grace is Spaded himself. Definitely an unusual ending.

Because of this thread, I’m currently on The Wire, but I’m thinking of either Veronica Mars or Rectify once I get done.

Of course I am the highest rating on this show too. I will be honest, I never finished the thing. This rating was because it was about the only show I could think of where (like somebody else said a couple days ago) all types of people were watching this. It was one of the few shows I didn't miss, either. In college, in the common room - I couldn't be bothered to watch Seinfeld or Friends with the masses, but I was there for this. For most of us watching it was also "our" years as well, since we "graduated" the same year in '93. I think I made it to S7 before missing an episode.

90210 was a huge guilty pleasure of mine.

I have watched the entire series three times?

The last 2 seasons were horrific but thise first 4-5 (season 1 was reallymhit or miss and then it hit it’s stride seasons 2-5).
Nice, so I jumped off just in time!

You wouldn't watch something because it's in the black-and-white? Does this apply to movies, too?
I generally don't. It does diminish it for me but I am not sure why.

I held off on It's a Wondefful Life and Casablanca because of it. I finally decided to give it a go. They were ok but I didn't think they were top 10 or anything.

For whatever reason B/W just diminishes it for me.
That's a good description of what I feel too
Interesting. I seem to have had a different reaction in the last decade or so. I think B/W shows and movies look stunning in 4K. I seem to watch older movies now because of this. To my eyes the new tech tends to exaggerate the warts in the special effects and stunt double work. Star Wars was an example of this. I was all excited when I had a better TV and could watch some of these old movies as they were meant to be seen, and : . Meanwhile when we did our Kurosawa month, I thought movies like High and Low looked amazing. As krista says - no wrong answers, just different tastes and pulls.

Probably higher than it should be in hindsight. We wll see the book on my list, so I think that does some of the lifting here for my ranking, as does Moss' acting. I will be honest that I started losing interest after 4 seasons. To me this is a good example of having a great 2-3 seasons worth of ideas for a show, but running out of steam and ideas.

It cracks me up a little that in a group of 40+ year olds, one of the shows people seem to be circling and trying is Veronica Mars.
✋

Color me intrigued. When it was out, I thought it was another One Tree Hill or Dawson's Creek. Ever since a show yet to be ranked, I've been a big KB fan.
If it turns up on a streaming service I get, I might watch it.

I also don't want to oversell it either. Like another show i still hold in very high regard that SHOULD be in the top 10, this seemed to be coded as a "teen" show, but i remember finding it to be well written, acted, and at times funny. It is on Disney+/Hulu now, i believe.

I don't recall a thread on it, but I do remember us talking about it. The show was the very first Sundance Channel series. I loved it. I should have ranked it higher, but I kept remember things as I went along and sticking them in wherever. I almost forgot about Rectify until someone said to another that they needed to rectify something, and I was like 😮 Rectify!

Yes, it's on Hulu and Hulu actually made a 4th season. It was a decent season mostly for nostalgia.

I think there is a movie as well.
