The Top 300 Greatest TV Shows of All Time: FBG Consensus: 50 Lists received. 58: Twin Peaks (196 Viewers)

how serious are people taking this?
I think everyone submitting lists is taking it very seriously but everyone has there own idea of what "greatest" means to them in how they want to craft their list. There is no single way to define it. The "greatness" of the exercise is getting a variety of viewpoints to broaden everyone's horizons. I mean getting everyone to remember how great Charlie's Angels was is priceless.

In hindsight maybe my list could have been a little broader, it’s almost exclusively comedy or drama type shows.
For me, when I think of TV shows that matter it really focuses on dramas and sit coms. That is what I think of when I think of TV shows. There are some other type shows that fit the bill as "greatest" because of their uniqueness or concept or how much it was copied but by and large I stuck with the bread and butter of drama/sitcom for my list...........and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Anybody want to share either their final list of just list of show they started with? I went off memory and have a list but I'm certain I'm forgetting some.

Based on the discussions, I morphed my list from "greatest" to "favorite", so some of them will be turkeys. Some of them I think can even fly.

I believe 98% of the questions now are shtick to drive scoresman mad

If I’m being honest, I thought it would take more than 40 lists to get asked if a marble sporting event was eligible.

If anything’s driving me crazy it’s stuff I mentioned already like trying to remove duplicates like when half of you put Magnum PI and the other half Magnum, P.I.
So Magnum is on EVERYBODY's list? I smell a rat.

My starting point for these are always random top lists on IMDb just to get the pool of shows.

For this one I did additional searches by genre.
I did that and google searches by genre. There were plenty of shows that came up that made me glad I did, or I would have missed them entirely.

How do you all do the spoiler code?
From a mobile, at the top left of the dialog box there are the following buttons when writing a reply:
- bold
- italic
- three vertical dots where you can format text (size, color etc)
- link (chain image)
- emojis
- three vertical dots with more options, one of them being a crossed out eyeball - click on that

Based on the discussions, I morphed my list from "greatest" to "favorite", so some of them will be turkeys. Some of them I think can even fly.
I’ve got to revisit my list before the deadline.

I had over 200 shows that I had to whittle down to 70. It was not easy.

I had lots of nostalgia that I had to cut but kept some important shows that were part of and shaped my youth and some of those shows to me are timeless and would never see the lightnof day in today’s overly sensitive society.

There is also some serious heavyweights….and those made up the top 15-20 easy for me.

I stayed away from sports and documentaries and stuck with drama, sci fi, horror, historical, and lots of comedy. I also threw in some timeless game shows that are to this day constantly on.

What can't you do on TV these days due to today's overly sensitive society? Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black, Family Guy, Euphoria, Borat/Bruno, the Kids in the Hall revival, Key and Peele, 30 Rock, SNL, South Park... tons of violence, sex, nudity, jokes about any topic (race, sexuality, disability, really anything).

St. Elsewhere (TV Series 1982–1988) - IMDbThe Tommy Westphall page stopped getting updated about a decade ago…
Cheers (TV Series 1982–1993) - IMDb…but often the first entry in the Tommy Westphall universe is https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0707897/
Squid Game (TV Series 2021–2025) - IMDbWhat the hell am I watching? Why can't I turn it off?
Orange Is the New Black (TV Series 2013–2019) - IMDbThis ran out of steam as characters left, but the first few seasons were addicting
The Keepers (TV Mini Series 2017) - IMDbOkay I was in the suburbs, but this was all happening a few dozen miles away during my lifetime and I knew nothing of it,
Tales of the Gold Monkey (TV Series 1982–1983) - IMDbThis was sold as Indiana Jones for TV by the network, but it wasn't really that. Probably work better now with 8 or 10 episode seasons and a bigger budget, but it was a favorite of a poor college kid at a college in the middle of nowhere.

Modern streaming shows have more latitude with sex and language than theatrically released films because they don't have to deal with the MPAA rating system. There are huge commercial pressures on filmmakers to avoid R ratings for feature films while TV shows can drop that second F bomb in the first episode without any consequences.

I'm not sure why we're posting an arbitrary 5 successive shows, but here's my 46-51 and I would stack it up against anyone's in here and you wouldn't have a chance.

46 Stranger Things
47 Sharp Objects
48 The Wonder Years
49 The Gong Show
50 V
51 Jackass
