The Trump Doctrine (1 Viewer)

Trying to understand our foreign policy.  It seems like trump has made some pretty drastic departures from past presidents - whether that's good or bad is probably a matter of which side of the aisle you're on.

I saw this today though and it made me think.

Curious to hear thoughts from Trump supporters about this.

I don't like this at all, but I'm not a Trump supporter, so...

Sometimes discretion is the better part of [diplomacy, valor, efficaciousness, competence...]

I was hoping to get responses from trump supporters, and i don't think you guys are helping that cause.

The president has said complimentary things about past adversaries in Saudi, Russia and North Korea and been very negative towards past allies in france, Germany, Japan, Canada and the UK (among others).

Does this mark a change in foreign policy? Is this something that trump supporters agree with?  It's strange that there's not more discussion of apparently major shifts in our foreign policy.

Not a Trump supporter (nor Trump voter, nor conservative), but I'd bet my life you could also find quotes of Trump complimenting those he insulted on this list, and insulting those he complimented on this list.

cause I'm bored:

May: very, very smart and determined person” and a “tough negotiator.”

Trudeau: "We have a great neighbour in Canada and Justin is doing a spectacular job in Canada," Mr. Trump said as he began his remarks. "Everybody loves him and they love him for a reason. So congratulations on the job you are doing."

Merkel: ”We are partners, we are good partners and we wish to continue cooperating in the future,”

Abe: The two men have a tight rapport — Trump has met with Abe eight times, more than with any other counterpart, and talked to him on the phone 26 times. White House aides say they joke about golf, with Trump complimenting Abe on his agile moves while ribbing him about video footage that appears to show him falling into a sand bunker. Trump sees Abe as a savvy negotiator and a worthy counterpart — unlike many other world leaders who draw his derision. He calls Abe his “good friend.”

Macron: "We have to make him perfect — he is perfect,"

Kim: "Maniac", "Rocket Man"

Putin:  OK - I actually can't find one within the 30 seconds I was allowing myself.
