The truth about Chad Johnson. (1 Viewer)

I personaly think that hit he took early in the season is to blame for his sub par numbers. He is playing scared and it shows.

It looks like his shoulder is getting to him. He got up from a catch yesterday and really favored it. It's like he didn't want to move it at all.

Chad might be playing a little scared or so but he is still the same player he was last year, he just isnt hitting the home runs.

He didnt change his game, he just isnt getting the longballs from Palmer like he used to. Chad was never much of a redzone WR and Housh has obviously taken over that role on the Bengals, at least until Henry comes back. Chad will be fine. One of these weeks, the line will protect and he'll have a couple 40+ yard TD's

i hope you right.....hate the thought of trading him.....when he comes around.

Thank you for being honest with us. The lies surrounding CJ have been too many. I appreciate your well thought out post, statistically based post.

P.S. TJ Housmanzedah?

the telecasts I watch show Johnson getting open, followed by him jumping up and down out of frustration because Palmer couldn't deliver the ball. If you watch the Bengals play, keep track how many times Palmer is able to take a 7 step drop and have time to make a read.

He had a pretty big year last season with HoushMANDZADEH around. Something is different this season, actually a lot of things:1. Johnson is hurting2. The line is not protecting Palmer3. Palmer, for whatever reason, has not been accurate on deep balls.CJ can be successful in the same offense as Housh (Harrison/Wayne, Boldin/Fitzgerald come to mind), he just needs those three negative factors to shift in his favor.

Went with Chad as long as I could. He rides pine now until he shows something.
So who did you have on your bench thats better? I thought Chad was still getting pretty decent yardage (at least the last few games).

I don't often get to see Bengals games but it was on FOX yesterday here in St.Louis and I thought he also looked a little tentative...injury or skeeeeeered??? I don't know

Personally, I thought the Bengals found their groove a bit as yesterday's game went on.

Early they were passing too often and not running Rud enoughi. Palmer rarely had time to set up and make a nice throw, especially on the deep and double move routes Chad tends to run (thus the shots of a frustrated, wide-open 85).

Then they started pounding with Rudi. Lo and behold, he starts breaking off nice runs and suddenly there's time to play-action and get the ball down the field. Obviously they need to start doing this on a more consistent basis, but I think there were some reasons to be optimistic for Chad. Not sure what the timetable is for their missing O-lineman, but that will help as well.

On the other hand, I agree that it looks like he's got some nagging injuries that are bothering him.

It's very possible that Palmer's inaccuracy throwing the deep ball could be related to his knee injury, maybe he's still favoring it and having a hard time following through on those deep balls.

I am not trying to be funny here and I'm a pretty big CJ fan but I honestly think that this guy is about 2 donuts short of a dozen.. It woudl not shock me if this guy was a little bit "slow" if you tested him.

Yes, I think the knee injury is the reason, but I didn't want to speculate too much.

I keep playing Chad Johnson over Colston and I keep getting burned. Hard to put in a rookie over Johnson, but its probably time to do so.

:goodposting: I sensed this too. They really had trouble keeping Palmer protected going into this game, but the fearsome Carolina D-line was kept in check.I expect Palmer, Rudi, and Chad to all pick their numbers up and start to match their 2005 levels.I do agree that Chad is banged up a bit, but I agree with the poster that referred everyone to his scintillating 4th down catch on Sunday - the talent is still there.

:goodposting: ,,,NOT!!!You could be completely on target here but I'd like to object on the basis of relevancy.

Probably using the same line of thinking when people were saying this about einstein. Im not say he's a physics genious...but he is different, and even genious in different ways. I would say eccentric.
