The two worst things about Fantasy Football (1 Viewer)

For me, the worst thing in FF is the pure luck (or unluckiness) of the random fantasy league schedule. Matchups are random and you can be the second highest scorer in a given week, but lose only because, that week, you played the highest scoring team. Sheer random (bad) luck.

#2 Leaving points on the bench.

Do any of y'all play a best ball type scoring each week?

I agree the leaving points can cause heartache. Part of the game is picking the right starters each week. But I've wondered if many leagues do best a regular league with normal waivers and such but best ball scoring each week.

I'm not too knowledgeable on the different platforms - do they even do that?

I like the idea of bestball leagues, but inevitably they get super quiet in season and I don't like it.

My worst thing is the indifference I have to the remaining games once I've concluded my match up is competitively over.

I find myself completely disinterested in any fixtures after victory or defeat is confirmed. Basically this game is more important than the sport to me.

the fairest thing would just be a points league, h2h matchups are a bit unfair an everyone plays everyone league would prob be fair too but I'm not sure if its a setting.

I’m in three of these. They take away the starting lineup issue but agree they tend to be a little less active than your traditional set a weekly lineup league.

Yeah my thing about best ball is that it seems to solve the starting lineup issue you have in a normal league, but, the strategy changes so much that it doesn't have the same feel. Like, yeah, it's frustrating when I pick the wrong QB of my two options and the guy on my bench unexpectedly goes off in a normal league. But in best ball, I'd just roster 3 or better yet 4 high-ceiling QBs and not care, knowing I have all of that covered. It'd appeal more if there was a way to enforce the roster construction strategy of a normal league with the 'wish I could swap these two guys at halftime' mitigation from best ball.

I'm in a modified BB where there is still a small taxi squad to stash your #3 QB, etc. Still have decisions but it's further down the line where it's less likely to hurt you.

Better on your bench than in your opponents lineup after you cut him. 😮

BTW, if my player isn't the one on the highlight scoring the TD I always hope it's some guy I never heard of. Once again, at least I know he didn't score against me.

You forgot 3rd worst thing cutting a player like Wicks after he scores 0 pts twice in 3 weeks and watching him blow up the next week right after you cut him or holding Sermon on your roster for 3 weeks and then cut him to see him go for $300 FAAB when Taylor goes down the very next week.

#1 Injuries - I'm getting killed this year. Worst Evah! This one is the worst when it happens to you, but dare I say good when it benefits you?

#2 Leaving points on the bench. This one doesn’t bother me. I’m kind of not greatly affected by ff outcomes. I truly take it as it is and it doesn’t bother me.

For example: When I start Dak Mayfield goes off. when I start Mayfield Dak goes off.

:hot:

You might enjoy a VP format league or like several of the high/mid stakes contest that use combo of record and points to determine playoffs. Either way both systems help create rooting interest above and beyond your matchup.

Full on BB is kind of boring, at least till last week or so.

I would fully support every league I play in every format if they wanted to introduce a mulligan system that offered something like a max of one mulligan per week or at "X" amount for a season. Just something to be able to remove the most painful bad lineup calls and also help lessen the blow of what might be the most painful thing in fantasy, the dreaded early exist.

Set it and forget isn’t that exciting week to week.

One thing I've found in my leagues to help with the random Head to Head Win Loss stuff is we have split the prize pool in half and half goes to the Head to Head winner and the other half goes to total points.

From my early days of FF in the 80's, I never thought I'd say this, but now we have TOO much information. I don't want to know if my player has 10 illegitimate children or if his mother is shoplifting, unless it means he is not playing that week.

This is why my league introduced playing against the median as well as your weekly matchup. Potential 2 Ws each week and if you happen to go head to head against the one guy who would've beaten you that week, you still get 1 dub. Can also add a little more importance to Monday night games where you might be out of your head to head match, but could still swing a median win.

We made our guillotine league best ball and it's been great. Owners at one point or another will drop a stud WR for a Tightend because the only other tightend on their roster played early and put up a dud. In guillotine leagues if you are low scoring team you are eliminated so you have to do whatever it takes to stay alive. If the league wasn't best ball I think the fun level would be lessened substantially. Don't think I would do it for my regular leagues though.

We had a discussion after sleepers mods this year and the consensus was we'd wind up with little interaction- some people might even skip putting a lineup in.

On Rules of Engagement there's a funny scene where Jeff gets hurt sneezing during a baseball game. After, the guys on the team buy him a bunch of gag old man gifts. He laughs and says they are a good bunch of douches.

Somehow....men, time, FF, teasing....it's a common phrase for this league.

We've all been in other leagues over the years and this one is dear to us and we're a bit guarded it- probably because of the camaraderie.

For sure. I'd doubt anyone would put a lineup in if they had this.

I agree...we changed this year to best ball format, with normal in season management (add/drop's, waiver, trades). Seems to be working well.
