The Tyler Palko Era of 2011. outlook for KC O (1 Viewer)

Tyler Palko will be the Chiefs' starting quarterback moving forward with Matt Cassel (hand surgery) out indefinitely.Palko has tried just 13 career regular season passes, so we had to look up his exhibition game stats for background. In five NFL preseasons, Palko has completed 133-of-243 passes (54.7%) for 1,423 yards (5.86 YPA), five touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while fumbling 10 times and losing four. Undrafted out of Pitt in 2007 due to major talent limitations, Palko's rise to the starting job will hurt the causes of Steve Breaston, Jonathan Baldwin, and Dwayne Bowe. He was a weak-armed scrambling college quarterback, and figures to be on a short leash ahead of fifth-round rookie Ricky Stanzi. Nov 14 - 3:58 PM
in the 2 minutes that Palko played last week. Mccluster had 4 targets. They were check downs. For the same reason I think breaston is a sneaky play this weak vs NE's rancid D. They will be down. They will have to throw. And Palko isn't really a strong armed qb (hurtingBaldwin & Bowe's #'s). I think this could mean that when he's not checking down, he's gonna be throwing to the guy settling down 7-10 yards downfield in the zone. That seems to be breastons bread and butter really. What say you?

this offense has been horrible at times... I dont expect anything from Palko but he is a bit mobile and I do buy your check down assesment. I have to think defenses will key on him and the play book shrinks but he could be "ok" at best first 2 games.

I hate to do this, but I'm leaning toward benching Bowe for Bennett this week. Can't have another 2 point performance from him.

After watching Palko in training camp I will be shocked if he has a completion over 15 yards. That is stretching the defense for him. There are 5 high school QBs in KC with better arms.

I'm worried for Bowe, no doubt about it.

Does anyone know if Palko and Baldwin played much together at Pitt?

I have Bowe, Stevie Johnson(sick),Laurent Robinson & Jordy Nelson. We can only start 2. Johnson's pretty much a no go for me so I'll be rollin' with Nelson & Robinson and Bowe will be on the bench until I see how things go. Even though K.C. will more than likely be behind in games going forward I'll have Bowe on the bench unless I see him produce. Breaston could have an uptick in value but I'm not liking Chiefs offensive players right now.

I'm hoping you're right about this. I picked up the Patriots defense specifically for this matchup.

That's gotta hurt. Feasting on Stevie and Bowe all season and now this. Robinson and Jordy, however, are probably two of the best plan B's a guy could have! :)

Jordy is a # 1 wr at this point and Robinson may turn out to be as well with Miles out of the lineup. This is a no brainer and you're very fortunate.

Not only did i pick up the pats defense in every league, but i am starting them this week with confidence. They actually have looked pretty decent last few weeks. They shut the giants out in the first half of their game and pretty much held them in check most of the time (granted except when it counted), then they did a number on the jets. I think that the pats D in general is starting to gel and hunker down a bit. Their schedule rest of the way is simply juicy and makes me giddy to own them. This week I would be incredibly surprised if the pats didnt absolutely TEE OFF on this palko kid and potentially shut out the chiefs. I agree that all chiefs players should be benched this weekend. Play mcCluster, breaston, bowe, or battle at your own risk. I think this palko kid will make john beck look like brett favre.

Exactly what I'm doing.ETA--jeeeeezz...I just waw Eric Decker available on my wire....awwwwwww whata dare that would be. :wall:

Palko has been in the league for four seasons, so it's unlikely.
You are correct, Doc Ock.Palko's final year at Pitt was 2006. Baldwin was a true freshman in 2008.

Palko is the classic literal coach's son who got the most of his talent just to get a tryout in the NFL. His greatest limitation is physical, but anyone making their first NFL start figures to struggle at times mentally.

I don't expect much out of Palko, and certainly not deep passes. Although, he'll be a threat to drop an F bomb if he gets interviewed after the game. 2004: Palko 5 TDs Pitt 41 ND 38

I expect a lot of checkdowns, with most of them coming in what could be a very large garbage time. Of course, it's also possible Stanzi is already in the game by then.

This is great news for KC. Hopefully it'll allow them to lose enough games that Todd Haley is fired.
I seriously doubt that Haley gets fired this season. Very tough to win games after losing a pro bowl safety, a pro bowl quarterback, an all pro running back, and an emerging young tight end during the course of the season.

Palko officially takes the reins

The Chiefs held their first practice in preparation for Monday night's game against the Patriots in New England, and it was also their first with Tyler Palko as the starting quarterback.

"Day one is under our belts," said Palko, who will replace the injured Matt Cassel. "The wheels didn't fall off. We finished practice on a high note, and we have a couple more this week to get ready."

Palko will be making his first NFL start. Kansas City is the fourth NFL stop in his nomadic career, and this week he received text messages wishing him well from, among others, Drew Brees and Kurt Warner. They were quarterbacks at New Orleans and Arizona, respectively, when Palko made stops there.

"Drew Brees is like a big brother to me," Palko said. "When I was with Arizona in the offseason and preseason with Kurt, we had a pretty good relationship. It obviously feels good that those guys are friends of mine and are encouraging me.

"I've been around a lot of good quarterbacks on my journey and I've learned a lot from all of them. Hopefully, that will show up on Monday night."

im playing laurent robinson over bowe today.. as a Pitt grad that was in school during the palko years i don't trust him at all at the college level let alone the nfl level. obviously he could have improved since his time at pitt but i doubt he's gonna have a good impact on any of the chiefs wideouts.

I'm playing against him. This will probably be the first game of his HOF career.
