The ultimate test of Draft Dominator (1 Viewer)

Through a terrible turn of events, it is looking like I am going to have to miss my fantasy draft in order to attend a funeral on Sunday. It's an awful situation, but it's not like there is any question about what I'm going to do.

So I'm trying to figure out how to draft my team without actually being at the draft.

Has anyone used Draft Dominator as a remote drafting tool? I was planning on leaning on it pretty heavily as it was, but I hadn't anticipated letting it do ALL the work. I might be able to make it for the first 2 or 3 rounds, but after that, I'll probably have to hand it off to someone else to make my picks for me. Ideally, I can find someone who is not drafting to do this for me to insure that its done objectively, but I'm not sure I'll have that luxury.

Any thoughts or advice?

Make sure that whoever runs it for you takes ADP into account. For example, in my league QB passing TDs = 4 pts, pass yds = 1/25, INTs = -2, rushing TDs = 6, rushing yds = 1/10. If using the FBG projections, DD will say that Michael Vick is the #2 QB. After about 4 rounds, it told me to take Vick (whose ADP is early 9th round). I got Vick, but waited quite a while to get him, taking the 2nd best option presented by DD over and over again.

This also happened at many other times during the draft - was able to wait on the player DD said to take until later.

DD projects that "X number of QBs", for example, will be taken before your next pick. So in this example, there was a dropoff from Vick down to say the #5 QB (if 4 QBs are projected to be selected). However, if Vick's ADP makes him the 7th QB taken, DD will not account for this - you have to.

I love the DD tool, but my biggest gripe with it is that I think when it calculates the dropoff, it does so based on its rankings (counts down 4 QBs, for example, in the DD rankings) vs. using ADP.

Long story short, if someone's running it for you, and the best value comes up as a player whose ADP is 2 rounds or more greater than the current pick, pass on him for the next player.

Sorry to hear about the loss (funeral).

They'd move the draft if it were viable, but coordinating the schedule of 16 people after the date was chosen weeks ago is not an easy thing. We have people drafting from all over the country as well as people driving in from out of town for it. I'm trying to move it up an hour so that I can at least hit the crucial first couple of rounds.

I could check to see if the funeral home has wireless, but I'm guessing I'm out of luck.

My best bet would be one of my co-workers who plays fantasy football but he has a schedule conflict.

DD has done pretty well in all of the mock drafts I have run with it. Obviously its not substitute for me sitting at the controls grabbing my sleepers out of turn, but at least it will get the value for the picks based on my projections and scoring. Again, I'm mostly worried about the first couple of rounds so I don't end up with highly valued players that I don't particularly want. In the later rounds its usually pretty good about finding the obvious choice.

I've put so much work into prepping my DD for the draft. I hate to see it go to waste.

You can cope with highly valued players you don't want by adjusting the projections up for the guys you like and adjusting the projections way down on the ones you definately don't want.

Why don't you just have your leaguemates put you on speakerphone during the funeral service? I don't think anyone would mind a few "whoop, whoop's!" from the back row when you land that high value pick you've had your eye on. If they care about you, believe me they won't mind a bit. Take my advice....they don't call me "Mr. Sensitive" for nothing.

Why not get a Co-owner for this year? I'm doing this in one of my leagues that I can't make it to the draft for. My Co-owner and I have discussed drafting strategy, and we're using my projections, and a plan based on potential things that might occur (i.e., when qb runs, etc. happen). Don't lean on DD to do your work, as there is too much of a human element involved in actual drafting.

If you find someone to draft for you (or co-owner as was suggested) make sure you practice using the DD with them. Talk them through it and write down your strategy.

I also agree with tweaking your projections so he isn't tempted to take a guy you don't like.

Rock and Roll Baby.

#1.08 - Gates, TE, SD

#2.04 - Brady, QB, NWE

#3.08 - Owens, WR, DAL

Good luck with all that.
