The Witch -2016 Horror Film (1 Viewer)

This is one of the worst pieces of crap ever. Every single person involved in this film should be banned from ever working on a film again, even the kid who got coffee for people.

Ugh. Horrible waste of time and money.

There was a collective groan/sigh of relief when this piece of #### was over.

Do NOT go see this.

This is why the Citizen United ruling was important.  Without that decision a film about Hillary could not be shown this close to an election.

I've heard nothing but bad things about it. I was really looking forward to seeing it too.
Yet, I've seen nothing but good reviews.

The people that said bad things about it are those people who like explosions and guns in their movies, right?

Mostly good reviews and at least some of the thumbs down are basically saying NEEDS MOAR CHAINSAW BRO!  Be curious to hear what more people think.

While I realize movie reviews are subjective, it's still 88% on the tomato-meter (out of 137 reviews).  That's a pretty good indication that it's NOT a piece of crap.

Yes, it is supposed to be psychological horror as opposed to monsters and zombies and explosions.

I saw it last night and liked it, didn't think it was a waste. Just be wary of what you're getting yourself into - a fairytale.

I think calling it horror isn't fair to The Witch. It's a period piece, and structured like a fairytale (as stated in the title screen), with horror elements. I thoroughly enjoyed the first 95% of the movie, and that last 5% has an excellently hilarious quote at least. Listening to the crowd behind me squirm and make unnerved chatter was a bit distracting but funny too, a small bonus overall.

Don't go expecting a typical American horror film, go watch The Conjuring 2 for that type of experience when it comes out in theaters.

Good - so there is a chance I might like it then.

I agree.

A simple way to put it is that it is a scary fairytale.

I get that different tastes and all, but what exactly was scary about it?  There was no buildup. No suspense. The only character development was the idiotic "ye olde English" they were speaking.  (Yes, I get it was a period piece, but it was stupidly done) My wife couldn't understand most of what they said. To be fair, English is her second language, but my buddy didn't understand half of it. I could understand it, but i just didn't care what they were saying because it was an idiotic plot.

The only dread I felt was that the movie would continue.

I am sure it was only MY theater, but everyone walking out was saying how bad it was.

I will give you that there is one line that my buddy and I have alluded to several times since the movie, but it's a testament to just how BAD the line was. Then again, who doesn't like butter?

go in with really low expectatations and you might have a chance to not hate it.  I don't care for gore and blood, either, but I would at least like a decent story, and this wasn't it. This movie made "the wicker man" look like an academy award winner.

That is the audience review, which I never look at.  I always go with the critics as I usually agree with what their score is.
I'm just the opposite typically. Critics often aren't fans of certain genres (comedy and action thrillers esp) and rate them much lower than the "common man" does.

People raved about how scary and awesome It Follows was, too.  And that movie was the dumbest movie I've ever seen.  The whole concept was dumb.  I have a feeling that The Witch is on par with that movie.

Uh oh prepare to be flamed...people around here love that movie. I agree with you BTW.

hopefully The Witch  has a similar tone to The Babadook, which I think is a very good film.

It follows was a good movie, this one sadly, was not.

i mean it had terrible audio that you really had to listen to understand the thick accents.

It created dread, but not fear and the limited environment, impacted the options for fear.

It wasn't a terrible movie, just not a movie I care to see ever again.
