Theisman dropped from MFN (1 Viewer)

Does it really matter? ie are there still people out there that don't mute them and listen on radio?

"Theismann's replacement could be current ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski."

This would be an EXCELLENT choice.

FANTASTIC...Theisman is among the worst broadcasters in football. I just hope this doesn't mean he'll get more run on the network or -GASP- in the studio on game day.

The only problem with Theisman going is that it will make Kornheiser pretty useless. The only thing he brought to the booth was making Theisman look even more ridiculous. What does he do now? If Theisman goes, then I think that Kornheiser should go as well...

I’m willing to give Korny another year without Theisman to prove himself before I start not to like him. It was his first year and he was put in the worst situation imaginable and managed to only piss me off during his planned in advanced picture segments. I think after next year if he's still doesn't add anything of entertainment value you bring in Greenburg as he'll be all warmed up from the area broadcasts and has proven he can be a knowledgeable color guy.

I cried when i read the article on ESPN this morning. My brother called me and told me about this around 8AM and I thought it was a cruel hoax!

This is why you should go to church. God answers all of your prayers, in time.

they dropped the wrong guy.
Bingo. Fire Kornheister too, and replace him with Vermiel. That'd be sweet.Nonetheless, an excellent move. Jaws is bright, likable guy.
Bingo.
I don't know if I could deal with watching Vermiel cry every other telecast.
The best MNF broadcast of the year, was one of the crappiest games, the 2nd half of the season opening doubleheader, Oakland/San Diego.I think it was Nessler/Vermiel/Jaws. Nessler did a better job than Tirico, and Jaws and Vermiel talked X's and O's the whole game. From a football geek standpoint, Vermiel and Jaws together every week would be a dream.

Jaworski is almost too good for this show. I hope the other guys dont drag him down, Kornheiser in particular.

I fear this as well. Dr. Z had a good example of this in his football announcer rankings column:
When I die and go to hell, hell will be a Kornheiser bit on T.O.-prolonged indefinitely. What I'd like to concentrate on is one of the more dishonest things I saw in a telecast, and the perpetrator was the one member of the team who knows something about football, Theismann.

Week 6, Chicago at Arizona, a defining moment for the Cardinals and their coach, Denny Green, and their offensive coordinator, Keith Rowen. The Cardinals are driving for the victory. The Bears can't stop them, no matter what defense they throw up. Rookie QB Matt Leinart is killing them with underneath passes, the same way Peyton Manning did in the Super Bowl ... ironic, huh? Down the field they come. Theismann has talked to Rowen, who told him that he knew he could beat the Bears this way ... if only Green would let him do it, but the coach was bugged by Edgerrin James #####ing about not being permitted to close out the contest. This was the knowledge that Theismann had in the booth, and at one point in the drive, he muttered, "Don't stop throwing." It just popped out.

But they did stop. They reached the Chicago 23-yard line and brought in two tight ends and two running backs, the ultimate give up. Now Theismann had a decision to make. He could lay out his knowledge of the situation, as practically any honest announcer would, and it would have been fascinating, a real coup for a guy who has been much reviled during his career. But just then Kornheiser came up with one of his grade school pronouncements ... "You have to admit it, don't you ... you're rooting for them." And Joe, given the choice, opted for the low IQ route, a little bantering back and forth with his sidekick.

Well, the Cards' heavy offense was stopped and they missed the field goal and lost the game. And in his postgame press conference Green went into some contrived rage thing about how the Bears were "anointed." And then he made Rowen the scapegoat and fired him. The viewers of ESPN could have been privy to all this ahead of time, they could have been in on a real scoop. But Theismann chose to ignore journalistic integrity and play marbles with Bozo the Clown. Personally, the whole thing makes me sick.

I remember that. What a great read. Dr. Z is the man.

:lmao:Got rid of Theisman AND McGuire in only 2 years. Prime time telecasts are much, much improved.
I actually liked MaGuire for the sole reason that he HATED Joe and had no bones about arguing with him. When he left, there was no one there to tell Joe what I thought about him!

Yup. I'd rather have Maguire for that same reason. Now that Theismann (rhymes with "she's man") is gone, here's hoping the second crew gets someone solid to replace Jaws.

Now get rid of Kornhole and bring in Vermeil.
I dunno, Vermeil was painful a few times on NFLN.. "Marshal, you remember the soft pet toss left, we used to run?" "sure do coach, that would be great selection here"bah...edited to add I don't like Kornholio either...

:lmao: Did you watch any MNF games last year? If you did you would have noticed that Tony had no problems pointing out times that Joe took the tool level too high.

Joe will be missed with all his genius.

Now who's going to school us on how balls become "less" slippery when wet?

:loco:

What an ### Theisman is. Here's his response to ESPN's offer to do college football games:

"I've been an NFL guy since 1974, so for 33 years now that's been my life," Theismann said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "Now you are faced with the prospect of that not being in your future. It would be like training to be a doctor or a lawyer and having them say, 'we would like you to change to another profession.' I need some time to think about it."
Bit high of an opinion of yourself and what you do, isn't it, Theesman?

Nothing better than to see Joey Leg :bye: !!!

Although I do still wish I coulda seen LT wishing Theisman luck on the MNF telecast-

"Hey Joe, break a leg"
