The way it looks from what you said,Willie 8 chances at goal line no Td's-Najeh 3 chances at goal line 2 Td's.Most coaches who see something like that will go more often to the guy who gets the Td's.One good week does not a goal line back make.Najeh has 3 total carries inside the 10 this year...all three last week and 2 went for TD's.Willie has 8, none of which are for TD's. Does this show that Najeh will be the goal line back because he got those carries for one week? Maybe, but I would not bank on it. If he does it another week or two, then I am sold.

Not really. Have you analyzed all 11 (or whatever) carries between the two backs? I don't remember all of FWP goal line carries, but FWP would have scored on both of Davenport's TD last week. Davenport isn't really a good short yardage back so it's not like he is much more suited to the role than FWP. Davenport could become the goalline back because anything is possible, but it's not likely especially if you are basing on the 11 carries between the two backs so far this year.Banger said:The facts speak for themselves.CrossEyed said:You're right, the coaches should completely ignore what he did last year and base their decision on 7 carries this year.I don't know...it's not as if he carried the ball down the field on his two td's last game. Yeah, I agree that Davenport could be a good play this week due to all the circumstances of this particular opponent. In any case I think Davenport is a decent play this week. As has been mentioned already, the Steelers are going to run and run often. FWP likes to take breathers as it is so playing at Mile High will only increase Davenport's opportunities. If Davenport is in and the Steelers are near the goalline they're going to feel very comfortable leaving him in.
Don't bother. Even though all the Steeler fans who actually watch the games have said this, the "experts" out there have figured out that Najeh is the goal line back now. Najeh asks that you do not use the word handcuff around him with his pending legal situation.I'm thinking about picking him up on waivers this week for this very reason (and also to handcuff FWP). That an all my other RBs (Green, Rudi, Morris) are hurt or sucking wind. This might be an all-Pittsburgh RB week for me.

I'm not sure your take would be the same if you had seen the games. Davenport's TD's were both cake walks into the end zone, and the only reason he was in was after a long Willie run. The fact is that inside the 10, much of an RB's success depends on O-Line play, which hasn't been great when Parker's been in there. It's not like he's been dancing around trying to make some ridiculous play. I guess because Parker's TD this year is from 11 yards out instead of 10 or less, he's not as good of a goal line back? Najeh may vulture a TD at one point, but he is by no means the short yardage guy. The coaches know that Willie can get it done, and he will have first crack as long as he's not winded. It probably means nothing but like it or not Parker hasn't done very well this year with his carries inside the 10. It looks like he could use a goal line back. He's been pretty ineffective (7 carries for 6 yards)
I'm not going to continue to argue with you but I've watched the games and I'm not relying on the stats. I'm saying the stats don't tell an accurate story and looking at the stats alone will give you a false sense of the goalline abilities of the two backsBelow are the carries inside the opponents 10 yard line last year and this year. Parker was very effective last year (and Davenport pretty ineffective), 12 tds on 34 carries and not so much this year, 8 carries - 0 tds. 1 Willie Parker rb 2006 34 94 2.76 12Not really. Fair enough and I think you're right. After listening to the various Steeler posters it seems more coincidental than anything. Correct. But, when FWP gets the ball at the goal line he gets stuffed. When Najeh does, he scores. He is not "the goal line back". Yes, he has gotten some goal line carries this year, but Parker does not get pulled at the goal line.
Parker was very effective last season. Sometimes plays work and sometimes they don't. It doesn't always come down to the runner -- there are 21 other players on the field. Why can't FWP just run the damn ball into the endzone if he is so fast? Why does he need a fatter, slower and just as powerful FB to run it in himself? Is PITT trying to establish another BUS in Steel Town?
