We have a three day waiver wire. I have Westbrook and I had not picked up buckhalter yet. (my fault) On Friday my opponent picked him up and then dropped him immediatly. He was not available until today! So I ended up having no one to start so I picked up the 3 back up. T. Hunt. Man I hate that guy, plus he had done the same thing with K. Watson! Either he is a genius or a huge jerk what do you think?

Genius. That's why all transactions should cost money.

Tell your commish to change the rules for this as of now, thats not a fair way to run a WW. The commish can keep players locked but if someone picks up a player and drops him same WW week, the commish can unlock that player with his permission if you email notice you want him that week. This keeps owners from doing this then, which is not fair to all in league!

A similar thing happened in one of my leagues several years ago. One guy picked up every available kicker on the waiver wire and then dropped them so that his opponent didn't have a kicker that week. It's totally bush league and only an idiot would do that in a league amongst friends. Our league now has a rule in place to avoid it happening again. If a player is picked up by a team and dropped without a game being played in between the add and drop time, then the waiver wire period is dropped.

That is why you make a rule that if you pick someone up you either must keep them through the weekend OR once they are dropped as a WW pickup they are immediately available.

on rtsports money leagues if somebody is dropped in a week then they can't be picked back up until the next week.

I once saw my opponent without a defense team or kicker and was almost tempted to go and pick up every single defense team / kicker out there and then drop them immediately, but decided it wasn't worth my time and the long-term negative value of coming off as an ### to the entire league. (might want to do trades later)

Otherwise, the "opponent" could spend countless hours nightly just picking up and releasing players until everyone is locked!

The two are not mutually exclusive. He could be both.

This year I added a rule that all waiver wire requests will be processed before game time on Sunday (or Thursday when applicable).

I haven't had to put it into practice yet, does anyone have experience a rule like this? Do you think it's generally a good idea?

I agree the rule should be changed....but until then it was strategy he was able to use in his favor.....would you have felt better if he picked him up but just didn't play him....probably not, you still lost out on him.......

Haha. And the guy who picked up and dropped all those kickers (or someone who did the same thing) wrote about it in his fantasy football book. Seriously. Google 'dominate fantasy football'. :excited:ETA: yeah, I paid $20 for the book and have read most of it. He actually recommends FBG in the book.

The simple answer is the commish should include the rule he has the rights (the commish) to unlock a player if that player was picked up and dropped in same WW week for any owner requesting that player (inform commish by email of course first so he can unlock that player)! Results the Genius idea goes out the window!

I think this is best way to deal with it. That kicker thing is uber-sketchy.
This is how we do it. If you pick someone up, then drop them immediately they don't go on waivers; but the player that you dropped to start the whole process does.

He's a jerk.

Sometimes when people get together to play fantasy football, there's always one geek in the group who want to play fantasy computer.

WOW. this got allot of responses. The problem with unlocking players is that I am the commish so I couldn't email any one. I think I might do a rule change next year. You know what I could do?? Next time we play I could do something like that to him! I don't know we will see. I did tell everyone in the league to go check this forum out. I hope some of them reply to this as well.

We have a rule that you have to "own" a player for at least 24 hours in order for him to be "locked or restricted" if he drops him. It's not a cure-all, but it helps.

We just went through the same thing in our league. It's difficult for the commish to reset every add/drop, so the new rule is that if you want a player who was add/dropped without playing, email the commish and he will handle the transaction for you...As far as telling the league about this forum :fishing: ..... why?Now they know where to go for the best FF news, discussion and tools....WAIT - if you have been directed here by your commisioner to read this thread, you need to know that this site sux.. :fishing:

GeniusHe is just taking advantage of the rules.
It's poor sportsmanship is it what it is. Smart in an empirical sense, but not in a good ompetitive spirit. It's just wrong. Some of my leagues have ways of not letting that happen, if you drop him in less than a day he goes back to FA.

I do this alot when I know an opponent needs a player, I will grab the best 1 or available at that spot. I dont drop them until the next week tho, unless I get a last minute injury and have to use the spot for my own player. I tell the commish then that I dont have a problem if the opponent picks that player up. Either keep that player for a weekend or let him be free to fly elsewhere.

I have done this when teams in our league will go without a kicker/defense early in the week. They do this to essentially increase their roster size for 4-5 days until they decide who they want to keep. Our league has a 24 hour waiver period, so if they don't pick someone up by late Friday, I'll add/drop every available K and D. I see no problem with this, especially if you are going to game the system yourself or wait until the last minute to add.

We have a rule that you must start a player the week you pick him up. It is a redraft league for those that think this would limit owners looking at a long term solution through the waiver wire.

So you are handcuffing guys who try and improve their bench thru the WW?

 Great Topic and I agree 100% that you should charge for the transactions. Any other rule preventing teams from picking up/dropping a player immediately are terrible. As a previous poster said all you are doing is handcuffing the owners. Otherwise nothing wrong was done. And if there is big money on the table, I credit the more active guy who keeps up with the waiver wire & news. For anyone who says this is "fantasy computer", well, wake up and smell the coffee.

Another option to address this issue is to make players that are on the waiver wire available within 24 hours of the time the game is played.

If a normal waiver move goes through on Wednesday and the waiver period is 48 hours, this rule would not affect anyone playing on Sunday games. However, if a waiver move is made on a Saturday night, then as soon as the player is waived he would then be available to be picked up by any team.

No we are preventing d-bags from doing the stuff described here. We have a core of about 8 -10 good owners and always wind up with a few clowns who try to find every loophole. Short of charging a fee for each transaction, we did the only other thing that we thoguht would dissuade shady waiver moves.

We have a rule in the league that if a player is picked up and dropped before that weeks' games, he immediately goes on the waiver wire with no hold-period.

This prevents owners from playing the pick-up-and-drop-so-you-can't-get-him game, as well as keep players in the pool if someone changes their mind.

Or, create another rule that says you have to keep any players you pick up through at least one game.
