We expanded our dynasty league from 10 to 12 teams this year and it's caused a flurry of trading, resulting in me having the 1.01 and 1.03 this year. I also have my 1st in 2012 and another owners 1st, with mine likely to be towards the bottom of the round and his likely to be at the top. So now I'm getting offers for my 1.03 this year, among them an offer of the other guy's 1st round pick next year which is also likely to be near the top.

So my question is how does the 1st round draft class this year stack up against the likely draft class next year? I know Luck and Richardson are two guys I've heard a lot about, but is next year's class looking better due to more players staying in this year because of the lockout?

My plan is to grab Ingram, and I have a suspicion I'll get AJ at the 1.03 because I have Ryan and the guy with the 1.02 is in my division and might take Julio to cancel out Ryan when I play him. Even if I'm wrong and he grabs AJ I'd have Ryan and Julio, so I'm leaning towards keeping the picks for this year, but what does the FBG gallery think?

Generally, it would take a lot more than an unknown #1 pick next year for the #3 overall pick this year. No way would I make that deal straight up- there is a clear top 3 this year, stay put and be very happy to land 2 of them unless he ups the offer substantially.

Wow, no one has voted for this year's players so far. Well that makes me feel better about the trades i've made to get the two firsts and two seconds next year, but it also leaves me conflicted about trading the 1.03. I didnt mean to imply inthe op that the trade would be a straigh 1.03 for a 2012 1st, there would have to be some additional value on the 2012 pick side, i just dont know whether to even pursue it.

I'd keep the 1.03. If you've already got multiple picks next year, adding another one isn't gonna do much in the long run. But passing on the big three this year might.

I think that the weakness of this year's class is that outside of the top 3, the class is pretty blah. With that in mind, I wouldn't trade one of the top 3 picks this year for next year's picks, just because you never know how those picks will turn out. Any pick 1.4 or later, and I would look to make a deal.
