Thomas Jones going forward (1 Viewer)

Yep, but don't expect the last two weeks every week. Underrated every year, I don't get it.

Greene is going to be involved, but I think Jones is still the guy to own.

I think Jones is part of a "new breed" of RB like Fred Taylor and Ricky Williams that can be effective in their 30s. Now none of this was by design (Taylor missed time early in his career due to injuries and then got into a split situation, Williams had the whole finding weed thing for a couple of years and Jones was not burned out early in his career with excess carries), but all three were elite talents coming into the league (all top 7 picks IIRC). To me it really nails the mileage versus age theory. Even look at a guy like Kevin Faulk. He was never (maybe one year) asked to do the heavy lifting and he is nearly as effective as he waas when he was 25-27. Guys like Tomlinson and unfortunately Peterson, carry a heavy workload and will fizzle sooner age-wise.

As to whether Jones can keep it, who knows??? Again, he will not be toting the rock 25+ times on a regular basis, and Shonn Greene can handle the 3rd and short situations if they see fit. I worry that his TD numbers may drop, only if he falters on the GL, but my guess is for at least this year, it is his to own. Looking towards next year, I am really interested in seeing what my Jets do with these three coming off of Washington's leg injury. He is not signed, and if one team wants to take a chance on him (with a contract he deserved prior to the injury), he may walk. If that happens, I am curious whether Jones moves into a 3rd down role in 2010, as he can also catch.

:banned: TJones is in great shape, and can probably get 25 carries a game if necessary, but he won't need to. I think Greene is a solid player that will fill the role Leon left wide open. I think TJones increases his touches as they won't want greene matching Leon's touches, but I think he very comfortably handles that extra work, and will continue to be a workhorse for this offense. Later in the year especially when the weather at the meadowlands dictate that you run a lot more than you pass! He'll finish with very fine stats as far as fantasy goes, but will be a solid anchor in an offense with a very very young qb...

NoWay

Is he going to return kicks? Catch balls out of the backfield? Greene is good and I'm stoked he's going to get a chance to make an impact as a rook... but in no way is he suited to fill the role Leon left.

I didn't say he's going to exactly fill Leon's shoes. As far as catching passes go, check how many receptions Leon has for the year. For how many yards and how many TDs. The coaching staff has absolutely been worthless as far as writing up plays specifically for Leon and utilizing his strengths. The team was not using Leon in an optimal way, in a way that makes Leon a game breaker. So yes, I believe the combination of TJones and Greene will more than fill Leon's shoes, in a sense of what Leon's shoes were for the season, no in a sense of what we all know Leon's shoes can be. Make any sense?!?

Yea... I see what you're saying. They might even be better off w/ Greene since they weren't getting Leon in space that much (though 2.5 recs a game isn't bad... on pace for 40).

It'll be interesting to see if TJ is the sole goalline back now. I see Greene got it in from the 8 right after busting off a 20+ yd run. Jones' TD attempts could go down.
