Where does he land?
Of course !!! NE signs everybodyPrediction :New England Patriots

I heard talk of that this morning, but I personally don't see it. They have too many old RBs as it is. They need a RB of the future, not another one year rental looking at condos in Boca and applying for RB Social Security. Besides, Jones will likely get a better offer money wise from someone else. So unless he wants to take less to play for the Pats, I see him going elsewhere.I think they may have more interest in Chester Taylor, as he is a couple years younger, is more of an all around back, and will likely come cheaper.Either way, I think they will still draft a RB on the first day of the draft.Prediction :New England Patriots

He will be 32 before the season starts, but he is in great physical shape and makes the most out of his talent.Amazing...guy rushes for what 2800 yards last 2 years.....and they cut him. And you wonder why players try to renegotiate when they outperfrom their contracts? When the Owners can go to you to take a pay cut when your a top player at your position things are wrong.
The NFL is going to have a serious battle on their hands for the next CB agreement.
Thomas Jones get's cut after posting another very productive year. Yes the guy will be 30....but so what? No loyalty by owners to their players, so why they should expect the same in return is laughable.
Jones will end up somewhere and I hope it is the Pats so he can stick it to the Gang Green really good.
32, as much as I'd like to say he performs this year, and as biased as I am (loved him since Chicago times) and hes on most of my FF rosters. I will be EXTREMELY surprised if he has another 1000 yard year, and decent YPC. He's been ridden pretty hard the last few years. I think hes done. He will get a chance I assume, but its not going to be pretty I dont think.I'm hoping though, and will be very happy if he can still perform.Amazing...guys rushes for what 2800 yards last 2 years.....and they cut him. Except he's going to be 32 not 30 and he was due a big signing bonus and a decent salary. Combined it would have been in the neighborhood of $6 million. Jones was going to be a free agent after this year, so he was going to be gone more than likely anyways. So it boils down to paying $6 million for a 32 year old RB that had slowed considerably by the end of the season (his ypc in the playoffs was about 2.5).Both the players and owners have to live with the system they created (at least for another year). IMO, both sides have made the CBA a nightmare (which is why they are at an impasse).Amazing...guy rushes for what 2800 yards last 2 years.....and they cut him. Jones turns 32 in August. Taylor turns 31 in September. Your logic that applies to Jones equally applies to Taylor.I heard talk of that this morning, but I personally don't see it. Jones will turn 32 before the start of the 2010 season. Big difference between 30 and 32 for a RB IMO.Amazing...guy rushes for what 2800 yards last 2 years.....and they cut him. And they very well might not keep Taylor either. The point was they already have 3 guys that are old in the backfield. Taylor (34), Faulk (33), and Morris (32).ETA: I know see you met Chester not Fred. Chester would probably fill the role Faulk served (3rd down and receiving back), which generally speaking is not as physically demanding as a workhorse RB.Jones turns 32 in August. Yep....32. I agree that is old for a RB my rant was more about the BS that you always read about people jumping on a player when they hold out and such while in their current contract...but when they actually perfrom at or above their contract they are asked to either take a pay cut or be released. Never happens in the MLB or NBA...because all their $$$ is guaranteed.I think TJ was worn down in the post season..it was very obvious. And obvious that Greene was fresh fresh fresh. So let's see how greene reacts to a full load over 16 games. I have my doubts he will be as effective over a 16 game schedule than Jones was for the Jets. No question Greene is ready and the Jets are going with him....but just bad form. I know it's business but that was bad business IMO. Guy plays his ### off for you and this is how you end the relationship? There is no 'power struggle'. Mangini will keep his piehole shut and PRAY that he can somehow figure out a way to get to 7 or 8 wins next year. He knows he's just lucky to have his job right now.I'd be shocked if we went after Jamal Lewis v2 (w/ any of these aging vets recently released). If they do, I really hope it's only a 1 year deal.In Holmgren we trust...Ah, the flash point of the first power struggle of the new Cleveland regime.

Dude.....I know it is....but I don't have to like the way they are running their business. The guy IMO played at a level that he should have gotten his entire contract. The NFL has an out clause where as the MLB and NBA don't...they take a risk and they either get a return on their investment or they eat it if they cut the guy. The NFL has major issues with their labor agreement and IMO the NFLPA has gotten screwed time and time again. It may be the worse players union in sports. This is perfect example. The guy has 30 million dollars in his bank account, let's not shed too many tears for the man. You're pissed because you own Jones and know the Jets O-line is cream of the crop and your fantasy squad(s) just took a kick in the rump, let's just be real here. They have Javon Ringer. They don't need a Thomas Jones.New and improved Lendale White in TN??

The owners risk is the $12 million guarantee. The owners say it is a business and the players say it is a business. Why are there still some fans that don't get that?Jones passed a physical Tuesday and agreed to a $20 million, four-year contract with the Jets, $12 million of which is guaranteed. Jones will be paid $13.1 million in the first two years of the deal.
C'mon, how could they possibly pass up the opportunity of signing another Jet?There is no 'power struggle'. Exactly. The question is whether or not he deserved another $6M or so for next season, when he'll be 32 and coming off heavy usage over the past couple of seasons. The open market will show how much his recent past performance is worth... and I doubt it will be $6M for the 2010 season.Of course, now the Jets need another option... so whether or not this is a good move for them depends on what they do for that other option. Presumably they think they can find a better risk/reward proposition elsewhere. voice of reasonSo when guys that got big signing bonuses didn't work out, should they have had to give money back when they turned out to be busts?I realize the point was that Jones did well so he should have been paid through his contract, but there are many examples that cut both ways where someone (team or player) got the short end of the stick.
Without going back to look for the info, couldn't one argue this about Jones himself? IIRC he was drafted in the top 10 and really didn't do much for the Cardinals. Did he earn all the money they paid him?Do you want the new CBA to include a clause that says a team cannot cut a player as long as he lives up to your standards?Dude.....I know it is....but I don't have to like the way they are running their business. Jamarcus Russel would be panning for change near the 880 if this happened. So when guys that got big signing bonuses didn't work out, should they have had to give money back when they turned out to be busts?
I don't think the issue is whether he will stink in a few years... it's whether he will stink this year. Or to put it a better way, the issue isn't whether he will deserve big money in a few years... it is whether he will deserve big money this year. There are two issues at play here:1. Will Jones perform well enough in 2010 to deserve big money in 2010? The Jets apparently feel the answer is no. We'll see what the market says... I suspect the market will agree with the Jets.2. RBs are more easily replaced than most other positions. This likely wouldn't be happening if Jones had produced equally well at many other positions.I think it's interesting how fans are okay with Jones not being paid big money despite him "earning it through great production" because they think he'll probably stink in a few years. Meanwhile, fans also aren't okay with highly touted rookies being paid big money even though they might be great in a few years since they haven't earned it through great production.I think the takeaway is fans aren't happy with most players making big money.
