Thomas Jones (1 Viewer)

Fantasy Fix Fred

I just traded for Thomas Jones to fill a huge hole as my #2 RB behind an underperforming LT. TJ seems to being coming on and looked good last week so I pulled the trigger.

Is TJ a respectable #2 RB

no doubt...

His numbers are down because he has played BAL and NE.

Guy will get 25 touches a game and has a few easy games coming up. Including the 32 ranked run D Buffalo twice in the next 5 weeks.

Until this week, I was not even looking at Jones. However, a few things made me take notice, and I ended up picking him up via trade. What changed my mind from sell, to hold, to buy?

(1) Preseason calf injury now seems settled

(2) T Jones sure seems to be the feature back. Even as a Jones owner (now) I wonder why Washington is not further utilized

(3) Have you seen the upcoming schedule? For leagues where you have started slow and need some wins NOW, check these next few weeks:

@ Buffalo - Great Matchup

@ Giants - Very good matchup

v. Philly - Favorable matchup if for no other reason than you assume Philly will score a lot

@ Cincy - Good to Great matchup

v. Buffalo - Nice, twice in the next 5 weeks

It gets decidedly more difficult from there on, but for those of us at 1-2 or worse, this could help change a season around if you can aquire Jones but gain a lot of value at a position of need.

Having LT, Portis, MBIII and Thomas Jones makes me happy. I was going to trade TJ this week, but after seeing that schedule, maybe I'll wait a few more weeks and reel in a big fish.

Buy low while you can - huge JEt homer here and I predict TJ is ready to explode. Faced two tough Defenses and only circumstances kept him out last week. How many RBs out there will get 20+carries and all of the GL carries heands down?

Nice schedule coming up - buy - buy - buy!!!!

He has a nice upcoming schedule, but I am still not drinking the TJ Koolaid. What has he done to deserve any props so far this year? Last week he faced a Miami D that has not been able to stop anybody. He had a decent game, but didnt look good until the 4th quarter when Miami seemed to just fade. His OL is not good. Losing Pete Kendall will cost TJ some value this season for sure. The passing game is not a huge threat to keep teams from loading up the box. Plus, Leon Washington will get his 7-12 carries per game - and he should. Add in the calf issue which could easily flare up.

I would be on the side of "sell high" on TJ right now myself. Sell the 100 yard game against the team that ranked number 4 against the run last year. Just my opinon.

Disclaimer - My opinions generally wind up sucking.

Late in the game is when TJ usually shines...He can wear down a D and still be a strong runner in the second half.

He's a solid play as long as the Jets aren't facing a powerhouse or a monster D. He's not in the NFL's elite class, but he's a very underrated back. He's looked pretty good this season in spite of marginal numbers.

Many of the great RBs get their real yards in the second half. Now, TJ is not a great RB, but he is a good and with the right match up very good RB. His quickness and enough ability to break one tackle = lots of yards late if a defense is tiring.

from Stats:

Sep 26 Jones had his best game of the season Sunday against Miami, carrying 25 times for 110 yards.

Advice: Facing a struggling and banged-Buffalo team this Sunday could mean another big performance from Jones."My history has been that I get stronger the more carries that I get over the course of a game," Jones said. "You start to get a feel for the game and how the defense is playing and you are able to instinctively do some more things."

I have been very surprised by the lack of production from leon Washington so far this year. He has less than 100 total yards through 3 games. He looked great last year. I thought with the departure of Cedric Houston and Kevan barlow that he would be in line for significant action behind T Jones. Coupled with T Jones preseason injury, i thought Leon was a significant value. Just hasnt panned out yet.

fwiw i agree with the other postings in this thread. Jones has looked very good against tough Ds and will start a nice run here starting this week.

Absolutely.

He showed that he is head & shoulders above

Cedric Benson during the playoffs last season.

Dude is a very solid RB.

Start him with confidence.

It turned out TJ was a good start in most leagues week 3 vs. MIA. He had 25 for 110 (4.4 ypc), and 2 catches for none yards (it was actually one yard, but I always wanted to use that).

Of course Mangini did play shenanigans at the goal line yet again week 3, as JB was kind enough to point out:

NYJ RB Jones 3 yard rush to the 3 (Pennington to Coles TD)

NYJ QB Pennington 5 yard pass to WR Cotchery to the 4 (Pennington to Baker TD)

NYJ RB Jones 3 yard rush to the 4

NYJ RB Jones 2 yard rush to the 2 (Pennington TD)

Although he bowled over defenders at times, he only had a long run of 12 - not great. TJ isn't well known for long runs, but he usually gets a couple 30+ yd. runs per year.

I think this week @ BUF he has a good chance at a long run and a TD. BUF D injuries are well documented, and the Jets O unit has faced some of the tougher Ds thus far. Most ranking systems have TJ as a good play week 4. I tend to agree, and predict that after this week TJ will be considered a top 10-15 back going forward in 2007.

I am buying in to TJ being a Legi #2. Had some minor RB issues so traded Julius Jones and Fitz for Thomas Jones and Lee Evans.

JJ is averaging a concussionevery 19 carries this season.Recurring concussions cut short careers.Getting TJ for JJ is a sound move, imo.
