Those who saw the JAX game yesterday... (1 Viewer)

I didn't see a single minute of the game, so I'm hoping you guys can shed some light on this, but I'm curious why the Jaguars only ran the ball with their RB's 13 times (MJD 7, Taylor 6). Was the running game that ineffective that they had to completely abandon it, or were there other factors? From the box score it looks like Taylor didn't get much done, but Jones-Drew averaged about 4.6 yards per carry - why didn't he get the ball more often?

I guess more importantly, was there anything you saw that would indicate anything about the future of their running game (and its fantasy impact)? Is it time for Taylor and/or MJD owners to worry, or was it just a bad outing? Hopefully we can get some good discussion on this...

It's game 1. Relax. Take a deep breath and remember this is just a hobby....

I don't think the OP's original question was out of line at all. He wasn't panicking, just aksing a simple question. As an MJD owner and not able to see the game, I'm wondering the same thing.

Week 1 was DelRio showing his "I didn't make a mistake by cutting Leftwich and starting Garrad" tactic. They will settle back into the running game and use clock managemnt a little better going on. And if they dont they are in trouble. When Chris Brown runs for 175 yds. on a run-D that was being touted as one of the league's best, you better learn to keep the ball in the offense's hands a lot longer and let the D stay fresh, or else it is only going to get worse for the crew in JAX!!!!

I'm an MJD owner and I'm actually encouraged and discouraged by the last game. I'm not encouraged by the way MJD played. I'm encouraged that Fred had 16 total yards rushing and a long of 17 yards. The rest of his carries were for no yards or for a loss. I'm discouraged in that Tennessee laid out the game plan to beat the Jags. Stop the run and make Garrard beat you. Garrard couldn't do that. The good news is that next week they have Atlanta and then Denver the week after. Atlanta should be a big confidence builder and Denver can be run on (see M. Lynch). But like I said, it's week 1. LT only had 25 yards rushing. I'm not panicking with him.

I watched most of the game. I just felt like JDR never committed to thr run. Tenn physically beat the Jags and set the tone which was unexpected by me.

Fred had one 16 yard run which saved his YPC. I personally would have gotten almost 15 yards considering the hole. Taylor was not effective at all.

Late in the game when the Jags loosened up thier offense and got MJD in the short passing game they were more successful moving the ball.

My apologies if this seems disjointed, but I am hurrying out the door from work......

My final thoughts are not to be too worried about the Jax running game. Tenn played a good game and deserved to win.

Now if Jax doesn't take Atlanta to task next week, well.......

Tennessee effectively ran the ball down JAX throat, chewing up large chunks of time. That kept the Jags off the field. Time of possesion was 37 minutes TEN and 23 minutes JAX.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the insight. I'm also a Jones-Drew owner and I'm not panicking, but I was curious why they ran the ball so few times. It sounds funny, but I'm encouraged that he got the most carries on the team, even though it was only 7 to Taylor's 6. It's not like he had 7 carries and Taylor had 23.

I'm in the fortunate/unfortunate position of having to decide which two to start out of MJD/Maroney/Adrian Peterson this season (guess which two I started this week :X ) I think I'll stick with MJD again, he's just too talented to bench...

That's the key, right there. Jacksonville only ran 48 offensive plays in the game. Last year, I think they averaged 62. Given the run/pass split yesterday, I'd expect those 14 plays to have typically been running plays.

As long as AD is the other one, you'll be fine.

They quit running because it didn't accomplish anything. Fred and MJD had one fruitful run each. The rest were pretty much nothing. Once Tennessee's secondary settled down, Garrard couldn't get anything done, either.

You can't seriously be thinking about benching Peterson against Detroit...right?
