Thoughts on 3 White Males at the Top of Dem Presidential Polls (1 Viewer)

When did white males become so effete?  Between the three of them they don't have the testosterone of a James Arness, Clint Eastwood, or Lloyd Bridges.   Robert Mitchum daily shat things more male than Beto, not as white, but more male.

Did any of them hang out with the Russians shirtless and drinking vodka like Bernie? Don't think so

I have a female mayor, U.S. Representative, and both senators.   From my perspective it doesn't matter at all if the top of the ticket is dominated by white males.

Yeah, the only rough and tumble white male of the bunch is the gay guy who speaks 7-8 languages.

Are you suggesting Republicans have no college degrees and no relevant work experience?
Are you suggesting a person with a phd and a lifetime of political offices is automatically "qualified" or is it possible that a person with phd and a lifetime of political offices be unqualified?

If a phd and a lifetime of holding political offices still leaves you unqualified...it must be their party affiliation that tips the balance.

You've long since lost your audience. Hell, even you don't think your argument is worth your efforts and it shows, this is far from your best work.

What election did Dwight D. Eisenhower win?
Presidency?

I thought you were offering up Rice as the token black that the GOP would elect.  Given that they have not, and that she is already 64 - it seems a bit optimistic on your part, with no evidence to back your assertion.

Automatically qualified? That’s tough.  I can imagine a scenario where the offices were all dogcatcher or he/she had been removed from office for malfeasance but in general, yes, I would say someone with a relevant advanced degree who worked in relevant political office would be qualified. Then the question would be whether I think they fit with my political desires.  That’s got nothing to do with whether they’re qualified.

Neither do I obviously. But isn't it a problem for a party that is so outspoken about championing the rights of minorities and women not to have any represented in the top 3 of their polls?
If we think that sexism is only a them problem then we as progressives are blind. Progressive men have been in the same patriarchy our entire lives that the conservatives have been, and it's just as normalized for us. I've got a few female friends who hold elected office as democrats. We've all got a long way to go.

If you're a cis-het protestant white dude who calls himself a progressive, you should be terrified about being the gender version of MLK's white moderate. It's a very different world with very different standards for women.

I see the collective has absorbed you.  Was it painful or did it take you gently, like sleep after a large meal at the end of an exhausting day?

More like a lobster in a pot that didn't notice as the temperature got raised one degree at a time
Thought that was frogs in a pan.  No matter, now I am in the mode for some seafood.  I wonder if the wife want s to go to Pappadeaux tonight.

She can have the lobster and I can get the Cajun pot with mudbugs, alligator,  shrimp and frogs legs.

I’ve taken to picking up 4-5 lbs of shrimp on the way home from work, boiling them, and dipping them in butter to eat as a whole meal.

Nice.

Colorado shrimp is never quite as fresh as they crack it up to be, I wonder why.  At any rate so what, sometimes I just need to get my swamp feed on.

Also, the 10-15 (per pound) shrimp are about $5 a pound right now.  It’s almost a waste of money not to do it.

There is very little I like as much as gulf shrimp taken off the boat that morning, boiled, and buttered.
Fresh seafood is awesome.  Always one of my favorite parts of getting to the gulf or other places not quite as landlocked as Tennessee

No, we're having the same discussion.

You're only qualification or requirement, is that the POTUS be a Democrat.

What you prefer in a candidate does not make it a qualification or a requirement for the Office.
So really? You're going to die on this hill for a woman who said Hitler was ok until he went global? She's dumb as a box of rocks. She makes Sarah look like a Rhodes scholar.

As for 3 white guys. According to polling Democratic voters dont care about playing identity politics. Across the board. I'd like to see Tulsi get more traction. Or Andrew Yang. Lots of time left.

Personally I'm torn on this. If the election were today, I'd be voting for Bernie Sanders for POTUS so I can't exactly be the lead champion for "anything but a white male". I know if the Reps were leading up to primary season and their top 3 were white males, it would be a big deal. But this is the party that campaigns on striving for an even playing field. It just strikes me as a bad look. Especially when "done nothing Beto" is one of those top 3.
It's ridiculous that a "white male" is considered a bad thing by so many liberals. It's ok to like a minority candidate, but why not just vote for the one who has the best combination of policy, leadership, experience and any other traits that matter?

Skin color or gender are not factors in my vote, but diversity is a driving force for many, although the polls don't really show this so a part of me does doubt if this is the latest media hype.

Yeah...sure...that's exactly what she said...

"I actually don't have any problems at all with the word 'nationalism.' I think that it gets, the definition gets poisoned by elitists that actually want globalism. Globalism is what I don't want. So when you think about, whenever we say 'nationalism,' the first thing people thing about, at least in America, is Hitler. You know, he was a national socialist, but if Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, okay fine. The problem is ... he had dreams outside of Germany. He wanted to globalize. He wanted everybody to be German. Everybody to be speaking German. Everybody to look a different way. ... To me that's not nationalism."

Your silly interpretation of "Hitler was OK'"... is lacking.

Yeah as long as he just killed the Jews in his country he was cool. How could I have been so wrong?

You Southern boys know that boiling is just about the worst way to make shrimp and crabs, right?  Do you boil steak down there too?  No wonder it’s Trump county.

You see...this is why we teach "reading comprehension" beginning in elementary school.

The subject was the use of the word...."Nationalism"....not the methods that Hitler used.

In her statement, she is stating that she believes that the word, "Nationalism" has a bad connotation because it is associated with Hitler...who, everyone agrees, was a bad man and had dreams of global domination.  She is not stating that she agreed with, or approved of Hitler's methods....she is trying to explain why the word is taken as being bad.

You (Liberals) see the words, "is", "Hitler" and "fine"....and your (individual Liberals) lack of reading comprehension (and their Liberal blinders) lead you (and other Liberals) to read (and believe) that a Conservative said, "Hitler is fine".

Seriously?

Is it dark up there?

....which gave the word "Nationalism"...the bad connotation that it has with some people.

No other country had a problem with "Germany's rebuilding"....until he went global with it.

You somehow see the words "what he did was fine" other that simply "okay" and "fine".  Those words are not there.

"The problem is"....the reason that the word "Nationalism" is taken the way it is today.....not that his dreams of globalization was the only problem with Hitler's methods.

Seriously...it is called "reading comprehension" and it helps when you aren't guided by someone else telling what they think it says and how "reading between the lines", can make it sound like you know it doesn't..

Reading up on it, it does seem like Candace Owens chose her words poorly to make her point, and later clarified what she meant. Certainly not the first political talking head to put her foot in her mouth.

You should take GhostRider's point that Owens herself corrected her statement. Don't try to rehabilitate what was then and now an absolutely horrible statement.

a "HORRIBLE" statement....or not a great choice of words that could (and was) used to attack her?

Do you seriously want to take up all of the misstatements made by Democrats.....like....working in a 7-11 requires an East Indian accent?

Thankfully, anyone who made such a statement would have been drummed out of the Dem Party. That was certainly true of the GOP as well until just a couple years ago. This stuff smacks of Lyndon Larouche and various white nationalist/supremacist revisionists. If you want, like Ghost said, Owens did recant, so you should rely on that.

:bs:

...a black woman being a White Nationalist.

It's a bit of a reach.
