Thoughts on Austin Collie (1 Viewer)

I drafted this fella, but am a bit concerned with what to expect out of him(WR's were goin fast in the draft so I took advantage and grabbed some quality RB's). Couple important scoring rules: start 2 rb's and 2 wr's with a flex for rb/wr/te ppr and 20 yards per point on receptions and 10 yards per point for rushing yards. I got him first pick of the seventh round, so I don't believe it was a bad pick but he will be starting in my WR2 slot.

I went 3 RB's early in one draft and ended up with him and Manningham as my top 2 WR's so far. Not sure what to think, but I'm sure Peyton will play and rely on him as long as he stays healthy. The points per game he was putting up last year were ridiculous.

He's starting in my WR2 slot as of right now too. I picked him because I was in kind of the same situation. However, I have 15 yards per point with PPR. If he can stay healthy he will produce. Adding a healthy Clarke helps some as well. I honestly think the only thing holding him back is more concussions or injury. I guess you need to be concerned with Peyton and his health and if it takes him several games to get the rust off, but he was producing top 5 numbers if not #1 during his hot streak before the concussions. He's not a big play guy either so I think you can count on consistency rather than boom or bust.

He's missed a bunch of practice because of a knee issue.....now missing time because of a foot injury and was a concussion machine last season....sprinkle on Peyton's questionable status and I'm not gonna touch him when I draft on Thursday.

Collie (knee) returned to practice Monday, the Terre Haute Tribune-Star reports.Recommendation: He missed Friday's preseason game with the injury and it sounds minor. He played in Indy's first preseason game, but didn't have a catch in his first game since his season ended last year due to concussion issues. Still, we'd like to see him play a little more extensively in the preseason before we're fully convinced he's back to full speed.

his target to catch % is amazing

he's a TD machine, he's a high yards after the catch guy, he's got one of the best QB's ever to play the game throwing him the ball

short of injury, he might be the #1 WR in the game based on per game stat's = yes, they are that stellar

high risk, high reward

This was just today from Phillip Wilson's twitter: WR Austin Collie missed Tuesday's practice. Now he's got a foot problem. Before it was a knee.

Yep, CBS reporting that Collie missed Tuesday's practice because of a "foot problem."

"Foot" problem or "footsteps" problem? ;)

Not liking the foot injury news. Also, Pierre Garcon went 7 picks after my Collie pick. Some have him ranked higher... any takes on that?

It just seems like it's one thing after another. I'm beginning to think my initial thoughts were right-- this is Garçon's year.
There is a reason Garcon fell to where he did when he was drafted. Collie is better (when healthy), Wayne is still better, Clark has better hands. Oddly, I think Garcon is about where he will be the rest of his career...and about where he finished last year. That may be close to his floor, but it's also close to his cieling.

i thought the reason he fell is that he was raw coming out of Mount Union. To say that may be his floor is silly talk. He's in his 4th year and there is plenty of upside there. Wayne is 33 and good chance he's not back with Indy next year IMO.

This is exactly the kind of talk everyone was throwing about going into last year - except everyone was talking about the whole "3rd year WR" breakout baloney. Then he went out (with Clark hurt and Collie missing time) and ended up at about WR30 with a putrid catch %. Many suspect Manning is just starting to decline, so even if Garcon improves somewhat, that improvement will be offset by a decline in Manning's play.

Sorry, I don't see Garcon as anything other than a weak WR2/fair WR3 - and I don't see that changing.

Garcon's Catch %

2009 - 48%

2010 - 57%

Collie -

2009 - 67%

2010 - 81%

Wayne

2009 - 67%

2010 - 63%

Clark

2009 - 76%

2010 - 65%

When all three are healthy, Garcon will never be higher than the 4th option with his inability to catch. To be fair, his 2009 year had a much higher Yard per catch than the others, but last year wasn't.

Can Collie handle more than one concussion this year? I think he's gotta be one of those guys that is getting close to shutting it down with one, maybe two, concussions. They're cumulative after all.

Hope the best for that dude. He's a great guy to watch.

From listening to the podcast, it would seem that he's no more likely to sustain a concussion than any other player. However if he does, they are cumulative as you state and it will probably keep him out for any extended period. Both because of the effects and because he's the poster child for concussions after last season.

So catch % can not improve in young WR's? I didnt't expect him to be on par with Clark, Wayne or Collie in this area and a bit of why I like him this coming season is because I think this area can be improved. I guess we'll see.

I love him. You can get him cheap and when he's playing, he's a monster. The biggest concern, obvisously, is his health but when he's in there.....wow. He had some really great games last year.

For week 1 - pretty significantly. Especially a backup coming in this late.
I don't think so. Collins is a vet who has seen defenses before. He isn't Manning but he is still going to throw the ball 25-30 times. A lot of those are going to be the safer shorter routes that Collie runs. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Collie with 10 targets.

I have a bad feeling about all Indy's wr's this year given Manning's health concerns. That said if Manning retuns and is himself I think he will be the 2nd best option in Indy.

Just read this via fbgs facebook update.. From our friend @adamschefter: Kerry Collins is second among active QB in passing yards, completions and attempts, trailing only his teammate, Peyton Manning. Nice.

Just trying to make myself feel better about my starter, Collie. I'm sure Collins is pretty close to being #1 in active qb's INT's.
