Thoughts on Denver D (1 Viewer)

Or did the Colts shatter all confidence?

They would seem to have a decent matchup at Pitt this week.

Also, anyone know who is Punt/Kick returner?

I think they will be better than they were against Indy but consider that they played St. Louis that started the season very slow due to a new system and coaching staff, KC w/out Green and new guys on the O-line, NE, Bal (not an offensive power house), Oak (horrible), Clev (see Oak), and then Indy. They have benefitted greatly in their schedule to date so it's hard to say how good they really are.

FF wise they should be at least respectable, but that's more due to their schedule than anything. That's a good-not-great D.

Huh? They completely shut the Patriots offense (which had scored 24 points the week before, so don't give me the "they were struggling at the time" line) down, as well as KC's, which has actually done pretty well without Trent Green. They have had one bad half this year. That is it. So, unless the second half of last week's game mentally beats them up, I see no reason that they cannot continue dominating. I doubt they will go back to allowing only 7 points a week, but I think they will continue to be a top 5 defense.

Agree on NE. The KC game, Huard was making his 1st start in how many years? KC has done better of late but that's due more to Huard taking 1st team reps and getting comfortable being the starter. Yes the Denver D have been very good so far but they have hit several teams at the right time. Currently they are ranked 10th in yrds/game, 2nd in pts/game, 7th in rushing yrds/game, and 15th in passing yards/game.Consider the offensive ranking of their opponents Oak is ranked 32nd, Clev is 31st, Balt is 26th, KC 15th, NE 11th, St. Louis 8th and Indy is 2nd. They hit KC and St. Louis at the right time and both those offenses are now clicking. The only good offense they shut down was NE and they got lit up by Indy. The next few games they face the 10th, 32nd, 3rd and 15th ranked offenses. These next few weeks should give a good indication if they are a dominant defense or a good one.

Brian Clark, newly elevated from the practice squad, was returning kicks last week. Quincy Morgan was also signed as a free agent to handle kickoff returns, but he was a game-day inactive in favor of Clark against Indy, so I'd imagine that Clark will continue to handle kick return duties for a while. Mike Bell was also in the mix for a bit early in the season, but I'd imagine that's behind him, now, too.For punt returns, I believe Darrent Williams is still handling them, but I'm not sure.

Denver caught St. Louis and KC at the right time? Both of those offenses are now clicking? Did you ever stop to think that the reason those offenses are clicking now is because they don't have to go up against Denver anymore?

Denver has a very good defense that simply ran into a buzzsaw last Sunday. I wouldn't worry about them. If you've been starting the Broncos I'd say continue to start them.

I don't believe St. Louis 1st string offense scored a td in preseason and looked bad in doing so. The team had trouble adjusting to the new offense and there we're quotes from players stating so all preseason into the regular season. Bulger followed the loss in Denver with a 19-34 185 and 1 td performance against the powerhouse SF defense. Since then he's thrown for 300+ yards in 4 of the past 5 games. I'd say it was an adjust period to the new offense which now they seem to have full grasp of. As I said with KC, Green got knocked out in game 1. Let alone dealing with a new line due to Roaf's retirement, new coaching staff, etc. Huard had his 1st start since what 1999?? He obviously hadn't taken 1st string snaps until that week so his 17-23 133 yard effort would be expected.
