Thoughts on expiration date for trades (1 Viewer)

Our league uses fanball. I was appointed trade czar as it were. Anyway, 3 weeks ago an owner offered Santana Moss and Eli Manning to another owner for Romo. That owner never responded until today when he accepted that offer. The guy who proposed the trade is saying the trade should have expired since the guy never responded.

So should the trade be reversed, and who's responsibility is it to cancel a trade and after what amount of time?

Trades never expire. If the offer's on the table, it's a legitimate offer. It's an owner's responsibility to retract trades that he no longer wants to make.I always tell everyone in my leagues that all negotiation should be done via alternate communication channels, and the official fantasy football site should *ONLY* be used for consummating trades that have already been agreed to. If you leave a trade sitting and the other owner accepts after something changes, that's your own fault. We also have a message board separate from the league website where owners can discuss trades (via PM) and where we can handle league business (such as announcing starting lineups, etc) if the official site ever goes down for any length of time.

They can. There is a cancel button on the trade screen, neither owner did so it sat there for 3 weeks. And now the Romo owner has accepted. The other guy is complaining cause Eli is hot now.

I withdraw all trade offers after kickoff of first game.

Using CBS, trade offers cannot be accepted after kickoff until Tuesday at midnight.

Now here is what ticks me off. Last week I had an offer out, the other owner hemmed and hawed and then submitted a counteroffer just moments before noon on Sunday. I sent him an e-mail saying I accept the offer but SPORTSLINE would not let me officially accept it.

I go in Tuesday morning to formalize the trade acceptance and the other owner withdrew it due to second thoughts. No injuries to any involved players. Just changed his mind. I will now not deal with that owner. However, it was a quirk in the system and that is his right.

I gotta say, that one's on you. If you really wanted to push it through, both parties could have emailed the commish saying they wanted the trade to go through, but the website wasn't allowing it at the moment. The commish could either manually force the trade through, or he could hold both parties accountable come Tuesday.

Wasn't really a big deal, the commish actually got trade approval from the rules committee because it was a multiplayer deal...but due to the rules he said we had to formalize it on the website. It wasn't worth quitting the league over, but it did bug me that an agreement was reached and then backed out of with no extenuating circumstances.

Seems it may have been an issue with fanball's "upgrades" or whatever they did this year. It's had alot of problems. Trade deadline is set at 12:00 a.m. according to league rules. I don't think the accepting owner will have an issue with the explanation that there is a weekly trade deadline and this trade should've been canceled after that weeks deadline passed.

If he does I guess maybe put it to a league vote, I don't know.

The offer would still carry over to the next week after the trade deadline passed for the week in my book. Glad MFL has a feature to set an expiration date when you offer trades :pickle:
