Thoughts on Fred Taylor? (1 Viewer)

Browns Rule!

Footballguy
Is he still a possible cut? Is he going to start or is there even a possibility he won't start? Who would start over him? Anyone have any information or opinions on everyones favorite Fragile Freddy?

like everyone else, he's in the best shape of his life
LOL! You've got to love the offseason. It just seems extremely odd to me the lack of news about him. The drafted Drew, Greg Jones is there, and there has been thoughts of an unhappy Taylor getting cut. If he can stay healthy, he has always been a very good RB, unfortunately, he hardly ever is. I'm just suprised by the lack of media attention this has gotten.

As a Jaguars fan I can see him pulling in - at the least - 60% of the load this year (granted he's in good health). Toefield and Pearman are only viable options on third down, and Drew will probably be the primary second-option. I highly doubt he's an option to be cut, stemming from the fact that he showed up during mandatory OTA's and completely stole the show with the shape he's in (among other things). The problem, from a fantasy standpoint, is that it's more likely than not he won't top 5 TD's this year. Greg Jones is almost guaranteed 90% of the goal-line touches this year and the only real chance Fred is going to get to score is from 20 and out. So you can almost count on (again, given the caveat that he stays healthy) him touching 1,200 - 1,400 in yardage but nowhere near a productive level of touchdowns.

Take it for what it's worth, I'm a huge Jags fan so I may have a bias in all of that despite the fact that I try to stay as objective as possible. The reason he hasn't been getting that much coverage is because he tends to stay out-of-sight and out-of-mind in the offseason, and even more so this year since he's been training on his own.

Up untill last year he had 2 back to back seasons of very good numbers.

I expect Taylor to have 1200-1400 yards Rushing if he plays the whole season. He is 2 years removed from his knee injury that hampered him last season.

If everyone else is so good why can't they replace him?

Ever think of that?

Taylor is the best back on that team no question about it.

Taylor is a potential SOD. He'll be available late. Yes, reports say he looks as fast as he was several years ago. Yes, that was a mini camp report. Yes, reporters like fans, will tend to look for only upside. BUT.... the same was said about Curtis Martin in 2004, and he won the rushing title. I'm surely not predicting that for Taylor, but if he's there in the fifth round in a redraft, I'm on him like white on rice. He could be this year;s FF surprise. While it's foolish to buy into early reports, it's equally foolish to discount them out of hand.

Oh, yeah.... I have him in a dynasty league. :nerd:

well, i suppose we could dig up the 478,483 examples of that being said about a player that didn't do squat. anyone game?

Careful here..... I didnt say he would be SOD.... just that that chance is there, and is a viable possibilty.

understood, anything is possible, but citing Curtis Martin doesn't help your argument.

Just picked him up as my 3rd RB to backup Lamont Jordan and Dominick Davis. Here's to hoping for a healthy Season. :banned:
