Thoughts on going WR-WR-WR (1 Viewer)

I never really have seen an opportunity to go WR-WR-WR--I'm too much of an old-habits-die-hard guy with RBs--but I came close tonight in a 12-team draft that went really well. Out of the 9 spot, I was able to get McFadden, then Calvin, then Vincent Jackson, then Mike Williams. QBs went a little earlier than expected and I guess it was one of those lucky situations where most of the other folks in the league had different values on the players than I did. Since this was a 2RB/3WR league, I was pretty pleased with how it all turned out.

Because I felt I had to make up for skipping on my RB2 till round 5, I spent 5 and 6 on backs, which left me a smidge lacking at QB/TE (Josh Freeman and Kellen Winslow--talk about a heavy Tampa investment). Still, I'm so used to playing in 14 and 16-team leagues that I really don't worry about those positions in 12-teamers anymore. It's definitely possible to do this and still come out with comfortable RBs, given how many guys seem to blur together in the 15-25 range. Opinions vary; Wells was the guy I got in round 5, and I'm pretty keen on his prospects.

Give it a shot if it's going that way in one of your drafts--I think it'll make for a more interesting season for me, rather than managing 3 teams drafted in very similar styles.

I did it in 10-team PPR, 2-Keeper. However, I started with Roddy and MJD as keepers.

I went: 1) VJax 2) Brady 3) Marshall 4) Welker in first 4 rounds. I was pretty high on Marshall and Welker for PPR, and when they fell, just had to take them.

To go with MJD as my RBs, ended up with Reggie Bush, Tolbert, Del. Carter, Jon Stewart later. Will need to fish for another possible starter in event of injury, but should be able to get by.

Late in the draft (after the 7th round, which is equivalent of about 9th round in pure redraft), had I been more aggressive, I could have filled out my RBs with late round values like B.Jacobs, P.Thomas, B. Wells, Hightower, Cedric, Addai, BJGE, D.Sproles, Starks, Mi Bush, Willis, or even late rookies like Helu, Jaquizz, Kendell Hunter.

I think it's do-able, esp if you think you can scrape up some RB2-3 types (or backups) in the later rounds. And if a couple of your 5-6 RBs hit, you could have a great team.

HOWEVER...I think it is not wise to blindly go RB-RB-RB or WR-WR-WR...it completely depends on the value there. If you have WR that are much more valuable than the avail RBs, then take the WR!

12 team ppr. I have gone wr-wr-wr for the past 4 years and have finished no worse than 3rd each time. The trick is be way ahead of the curve on the waiver wire,

This is my draft from the 9 hole.

Roddy White

VJAX

Bowe

Witten

Schuab

Ryan Grant

M Lynch

Ben Tate

J Stew

Roy Helu

Eddie Royal

Greg Little

J Ringer

M Cassell

Matt bryant

AZ

I am hoping eith Lynch or Tate turn into adequate starters. I would say Lynch, Tate and Helu would be my sleeper picks

In a draft I did for the FBG FFPC from the 5 slot (2wr/2 flex), and by "big game gamble choice" as opposed to "play it normal/safe thinking" I employed this theory to the extreme. I skipped on Charles, McCoy and Foster (Sunday night draft) at the 5 and jumped up on Andre....VJax next, Marshall (over R RMatthews and Bradshaw + list below) in the 3rd....Now is the tricky part. Do you go Hightower, Moreno, DWill, Wells, Lynch or Benson in the FOURTH round? I just can't see myself doing that. that is all that's available at my 4th pick at RB as gates/witten/finley are also gone, OR, do you go one more WR? I went Bowe and I'm now WR WR WR WR.....I must get 2 RB's in the next 2 rounds or Im toast without a lucky waiver claim in the first 3 weeks. Dwill in the 5th, Benson (last starting RB) in the 6th....I'll take it.... wow, that was lucky if you ask me.

I think one thing that is missed a little in this theory is you have to couple it with "QB's are not valuable". I waited til Rounds 11 to take my first QB.

keys to victory? health and waiver wire. those 4 must catch 8-10 balls a game for this to work. Actually VJax scares me more than anyone for that number, he's more of a non ppr guy.

there ya go, laid out my thinking. im content with the dice roll, you gotta be a lil different i think...this may be more than a "lil" different.

R.White, H.Nicks, B.Loyd, K.Britt first 4 rounds in 14 team RB, 2WR, Flex. Blount was my keeper, 9 other keepers were kept by others. F.Jackson is my RB2, Big Ben QB.

Calvin and V Jackson on both of my teams. Digging it. Didn't go wr in round 3 but liking steve smith as my late round 3rd Wr to flex.
