Thoughts on Jonathan Stewart? (1 Viewer)

Any CAR homers have any info on this guy?

He hasn't done much so far this season, but he's been injured.

Any update on his injury?

Predictions?

TIA

Not sure what Car homers will have to say about things. IMO though, Car needs to get Williams more touches. He is clearly better than Stewart and is clearly the best offensive weapon and football player on their team.

Seriously, why is this line ALWAYS used here. It makes ZERO SENSE.Which do you think happens?Option A: An owner acquires a player (like DeAngelo Williams) and THEN thinks he's a stud simply because he owns him. He was actually forced to buy him and didn't like him beforehand.orOption B: An owner acquires a player (like DeAngelo Williams) BECAUSE he likes him and thinks he's a stud. Why ask if he's a Williams owner if he says that? What's the difference? If you find 2 random people who believe DeAngelo was a stud and one was able to draft him and the other wasn't able to draft him, does the 2nd guy's opinion mean more simply because he doesn't own him even though they both felt the same way before their drafts? These statements are so annoying and make no sense whatsoever. In fact, I will pay a bit more attention to a person's opinion if he owns a player as he probably pays more attention to him than a non-owner. I currently own Josh Morgan in quite a few spots because I was very high on him. I've lost a lot of faith and think I now made a mistake. Do you think I'm incapable of making those kinds of changes in opinions simply because I own him?

I've got Williams and have been trying to get Stewart all year for the hand-cuff. The guy I am trying to trade with has Rice and I offered Mcgahee so we both have the the handcuff....and he won't bite.

If it's a dynasty league I can't blame the guy for not taking you up on that offer. In a redraft however, I think he is a fool. McGahee will vastly outproduce Stewart this year.

I would presume that he responded as such because jurb made a comment that sounds like fact when it is really based on presumption. Williams has clearly outperformed Stewart thus far statistically when they've been on the same team. Maybe he basing his assumptions on that. But I am not convinced he is clearly better than Stewart. I would guess that each's stats through their first 20 games of their careers would look similar with a slight nod to Stewart.

Williams was the #1 RB in my league last year and led the NFL in rushing TDs I believe. Why are you confused?

Only saw the Eagles game but I didn't see any lingering injury effects - thought he ran pretty well. They've been behind a lot, which isn't good for a RB on the short end of a timeshare. Whether or not that changes who knows but I think he'll be a good flex against bad teams.

Unless Delhomme throws 4 picks in the first half.

I don't know about VASTLY, but even if McGahee outproduces Stewart, that's not the only element at play here.If Rice goes down, McGahee will be a pretty good fantasy RB, but McClain will likely eat a bunch of his production still. If Williams goes down, Stewart becomes a stud.If neither goes down, both Stewart and McGahee are likely RB3 types going forward.Even if McGahee makes a better RB3 in the event of no injury, I'd still take Stewart.

Except for Week 3...the only real difference between Stewart and DWill was that DWill got the TDs.

Week 1

DWill...14 carries for 37 yards and a TD....4 catches 42 yards

Stewart....11 carries for 35 yards...2 catches for 32 yards

Week 2

DWill...16 carries for 79 yards and a TD...2 catches for 32 yards

Stewart...9 carries for 65 yards....3 catches for 14 yards

Week 3

DWill...11 carries for 64 yards...2 catches for 10 yards

Stewart...3 carries for -1 yards...2 catches for 12 yards

Except for Stewarts 3 carries in week 3...they have had very comparable numbers regarding yardage.

The issue with Car is that Delhommy is a piece of junk!

I think you're fooling yourself if you think McGahee performs like a RB3 the rest of the way this year. I'm sure his production will decrease from the blistering pace he is currently on but he is currently a top 5 RB in every league I'm in. Sure, IF Williams and Rice go down I would say Stewart has more value. I'm not basing things on what if's though. I don't pretend I'm able to predict injuries. Oh, and here's the most important thing. McGahee doesn't need Rice to go down to be a pretty good fantasy RB. As I said, McGahee is currently performing as a VERY good RB right now with Rice already playing and healthy. He is in the top 5. Stewart is the one who needs an injury to perform well. Now if you don't believe McGahee can continue to perform as such I'm fin with that. I think he will still be at least a RB2 the rest of the year regardless of what Rice is doing. The accusation that McGahee needs a Rice injury to be worth while is simply false though.

In my League (td heavy) McGahee is a top 5 back now and will likely be a top 10 back. So that trade made no sense to me but I guess scoring system makes a difference. I am interested in Stewart who is sitting out on our waiver wire. I have not seen any Carolina Games and just don't understand how they were so good on the ground last year and are so bad this year.

Carolina homer here!

Buy Stewart and D Will both now while they are low. Next 3 games are Wash, TB, Buf.

There is no rhyme or reason to the running back split. Fox thinks almost equal of the two backs but DeAngelo gets the majority of the carries(and start) because he is the veteran. From there they just split the carries to keep both as close to 100% as possible. This is a true example of 2 feature backs (and not just a 1st down, 3rd down or goalline back etc).

We should see some big games like last year against defensive lines that matchup well with their offensive line. Carolina's OL excel against traditional 4-3 based defenses (WASH, TB, BUF)and struggle against 3-4s and hybrids (DAL,PHIL).

Carolina will be in the top 4 of most run heavy teams in the next 3 weeks so go back to inserting Stewart as a flex.

He wants more than McGahee? That is crazy! I was hoping to get Stewart for Willie Parker to the Mendenhall owner and Pitt fan. Maybe a no go?

In dynasty Stewart>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>McGahee

Don't forget McGahee is in a contract year and will be 29 this time next year. Sell McGahee high now. Arguably the biggest sell high in dynasty formats.

Nobody is "buying" McGahee in dynasty leagues from what I've seen. The play with McGahee in dynasty is to hold.

Stewart was just dropped in my keeper league. I wish I had cap room to add him. I'd have to drop 2 people. Thinking maybe SHonn Greene & Mendemhall (or KNox), but probably won't.

My thoughts Stewart is a decent backup running back when healthy which is rarely the case.
How many games has Stewart missed because of injury?
i'll add on. If you're talking THIS year, then fine, Stewart is a backup iIF Dwill doesnt go down. Potential alone, Stewart>>>>>Williams.
stewart does not have that much more potential than deangelo. cmon man.
yeah dude that's way too many greater than signs

He has never missed a regular season game as a Panther.
Oh I guess I didn't get the memo that only pro injuries count, not that he hasn't been on the injury report for many pro games. I guess being hobbled for almost 2 years in college is not to considered as part of his injury history.Oh and since when does not missing the game mean you are healthy? If you are probable/questionable week after week that is not a good sign.

He meant much more potential to use a walker and leaver the league early.

Carolina will get their running game back together. Keep Stewart.

I have both D. Will and Stewart on my team and have been watching the Panthers closely this year. I don't agree that Stewart is a "backup" at all. To me it is an RBBC situation very similar to Miami with Brown and R. Williams. In both cases there is (guessing) a 60/40 split with the "60" guy (DWill/Brown) getting a higher proportion of carries between the 20s yet seemingly both Stewart and Ricky seem to get a slightly higher proportion near the goal line. With Carolina's upcoming schedule, I went long on their backfield by trading away R.Brown for some high-end WR2s and am putting Stewart in as my Flex for the next 4 games since I gotta believe he has high odds for TDs and 60-100 yds/gm. Just my opinion...

Stewart and DWill are in line for nice games, as Carolina's offense should be able to control the clock and run the ball--I see Dwill going over 100 with a TD and Stewart getting 70-80 with a short plunge.

Do you mean that Stewart is getting a slightly higher proportion of carries relative to his "outside the 20s" # of carries?Because if you believe that Stewart gets more carries than D Williams inside the 20, you are wrong.

D. Williams has received 64% of the carries outside the opposition's 20 this year (35 carries), while Stewart has received 33% (18 carries).

Inside the 20, those percentages change to 55% for Williams, and 45% for Stewart (6 carries for Williams, 5 for Stewart). Stewart does receive a slightly higher percentage (compared to his outside the 20 carries), but he DOES NOT receive a higher percentage than Williams.

What's more, if you include receptions, the percentages change even more.

Outside the 20, Williams receives 60% of RB touches (35 carries + 6 receptions on 7 targets), and Stewart receives 37% (18 carries plus 7 receptions on 8 targets).

Inside the 20, Williams receives 64% of the touches (9 carries + 5 receptions on 6 targets), while Stewart receives 36% of the touches (5 carries and 0 receptions on 0 targets).

With regards to TOUCHES, Stewart's percentage goes down inside the 20, while Williams' percentage goes up.

Nice work but I just think you are thinking to hard about this. Expect a 60/40 split. It won't be exact in the short run but in the long run it will work itself out. As stated above, both are feature backs. They just keep eachother fresh and DeAngelo starts because he is the vet. It is not like most running back tandems. Both are viewed simiilarly effective in all situstions by the coaching staff and whoever is in the rotation at the time gets the snaps whether it be short yardage carries, redzone, 1st down, 3rd and long.

Another Carolina homer here, there's no roles in the backs from what I can see. They basically rotate series.

Hopefully the pass game gets figured out and Jeff Davidson gets his head screwed on right, that's the only thing holding back either back at this point

Edit:

Plays on field:

Week 1: 54% DW, 42% JS

Week 2: 64% DW, 36% JS

Week 3: 65% DW, 36% JS

DW is the leader, but JS gets a consistent share that isnt dependent on role or game situation.

Maybe. We'll see. Remember, Dwill....ONE good year. ONE.

And how many other first round picks have had only one good year or even a partial good year?

MJD? Check.

Turner? Check.

Forte? Check.

Chris Johnson? Check.

Slaton? Check.

You're gonna miss a lot of boats if you wait for someone to "do it more than one year"

First round picks that have had two or more 1000 yd years:

SJax

LT

Gore

Portis

How's that workin out for ya?

I'd hardly say that an RB with two top 10 finishes and an RB13 finish in the last three years "had only one good year". :P

Just wanted to add that 4 of Stewart's 5 carries were in the first drive of their first game vs, Philly. He got four in a row inside the ten....got the first down....then after a penalty, Williams ran it in from the 11.

@ BayhawksNice work but I just think you are thinking to hard about this.
No, not really. The post I quoted made it sound like he expected Stewart to get more of the carries when they got close to the goal line. I've seen that belief before, that Stewart is the "goal-line" back, and it's not true. Whichever back is in the game, will get the touches when they are down there. I merely used this year's stats to show that Stewart doesn't get more red zone touches, but the split remains.
Expect a 60/40 split.
That is what I expect to continue to happen, barring injury.
