Thoughts on Mario Manningham (going foward) (1 Viewer)

Well most everyone i talk to says he is worthless now that Nicks in town. I do agree Nicks looks the part of a lead wr. And Smith is very good on the other side as a possesion wr.

So where does that leave Mario?? Others have flourished out of the slot. Are the Giants becoming more of a passing team?? Mario didnt really play at all as a Rookie.

His 1st full season action he posted a respecteable (57 822 5td). Those the kind of numbers we would go crazy for it it was a rookie.

Im looking from a dynasty standpoint where sometimes situations can change quickly but where do you guys value Mario?

I think he is a pretty good prospect heading into his 3rd year.

(btw I a BIG Nicks supporter so i dont think he will blow up on this team with Nicks/Smith there)

He isnt worthless. But Nicks seems to be a better talent.

S.Smith isthe security blanket, so I would be concerned over his targets. But I believe he is a very talented player.

I think in the short-term he'll take a backseat to Nicks and Smith, but he'll still have a few excellent games. His route running is still raw and he needs to improve his concentration, but I think that he's flashed enough that if you have roster space to keep him, he could pay huge dividends in a couple of years.

I am buying him in dynasty leagues. He will be just 24 this season and has shown significant improvement from his rookie to 2nd year. He has the athletic ability to be a starting WR in the NFL, but is raw and the Giants have a good WR corps overall making people think it's crowded. In today's NFL we see a lot of teams have essentially 3 starting WRs so I think he can have another good year next year. IMO his talent shines through over the long run and I agree with lyon812 - buying him now will provide very good dividends in a couple of years.

Took a backseat later in the season. Good player, questionable hands on some occasions... nothing more then a 3rd option on any team.

Wasnt he there with Breaston and Braylon at Michigan? I know Breaston for sure but if i recall they use to talk about Mario like he was the next big thing like Braylon was there?

I also like how he progressed for a 2nd yr wr. Some wr's never flash anything ie (Sinorice Moss)

I've been buying him - I think he has shown quite a bit in a very crowded NYG WR group. His situation is not ideal at the moment - Nicks is a bit better / more prototypical WR1, and Smith is Eli's security blanket and a heck of a chains-mover (and his game is better suited for NYG Dec weather, etc), so MM is going to be #3 there, and thus will come fairly cheap.

However, just for a minute, imagine if MM put up 57 822 5 in year two playing in SD across from VJax. He'd be borderline untouchable in trades. MM is a legit NFL WR, and could be the perfect #2 (or even 1a) guy for many, many teams. You may have to wait a bit for him to put up big #'s, but I think he's a solid investment who, at worst, is a decent enough depth guy / injury fill-in.

Mario came after Braylon left. It was Braylon, Avant and Breaston together at first. Year after Braylon left it was Avant and Breaston as starters with Manningham as a freshman backup. Next year Avant is gone and Breaston and Manningham start. After Breaston left Manningham and Adrian Arrington were the starters with Manningham really blowing up. He has never been a guy with elite measurables, but he was one of the best I have ever seen at getting open deep. Ask any ND fan their memories about Manningham.

This, I think you see a fantasy player here who resembles Devery Henderson - solid player, deep threat, on a crowded roster of receivers who occasionally puts up a respectable fantasy weekend, but good luck predicting when he blows up and when he sees 2/30/0 (or some such).

He is a pretty good, but not great, talent and makes most other mental midgets look smart...some very smart.

Betting on him correcting his mental attitude would be an awful, awful bet. If it were to happen he could be a starter, but since it almost certainly won't expect him to continue to be what he was this season. An inconsistent play maker that will give you more headaches than smiles. He's closer to Braylon than he is Breaston.

i've bought a few Manningham's in some leagues (for late 2nd on 1, Brandon Gibson, Davone Bess in others).

I think Manningham's 2nd year numbers shows good promise for him moving forward, whether it'll be in NY or somewhere else.

I personally think he's more talented than SSmith NYG. I wont be surprised one bit if 2010, we see SSmith (who has been getting tons of love in startups going in the 3rd round) disappoint quite a bit just like Lee Evans/Roy Williams after their 3rd year breakout. He was in the perfect situation last year where he was the most "veteran" of all the WRs and so Eli had to trust him more than Nicks/Mario/Hixon and others. I dont believe SSMith will get nowhere near 100 balls in 2010. my 2c.

Steve Smith is a different type of player than ROY/Evans. He is an excellent possession WR. He may not get 100 balls, but he'll be in the 80 range for the next several seasons. There is no way Manningham displaces him IMO.

I think if you're looking at the Lee Evans type fantasy player, Manningham would fit that description. Inconsistency. Mario in fact was dealt for Lee Evans in a dynasty a few days ago.Mario makes too many mental mistakes to ever overtake Smith IMO. I could see them going 3-wide a lot more because all 3 WR's are very good talents. I think Smith's a good bet for 70+ balls for next several years if remaining in NY.

Mario is only going on his 3rd year in 2010, and so he still technically is within the learning curve for WRs which may explain his inconsistency/drops etc etc. Roddy White if i remember correctly had drops/concentration issues in his first 2 years, then had a great year 3. And no, i'm not saying Manningham will be Roddy White. Agree, Smith's a good bet for 70 balls, 70-850, right along those lines.
