Thoughts on Percy Harvin moving forward (1 Viewer)

He reminds me a lot of Lee Evans, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Evans was used a lot like Harvin early in his career, but for inexplicable reasons Buf completely changed their scheme(coaching changes and what not), not to mention major holes in the O-line and at the QB position. Evans had a Top 10 year 3 years ago, and I still believe he's capable of doing it again if his team situation ever changes.

A lot may depend on what happens around Harvin, than on Harvin himself. If Favre leaves, there's certainly going to be QB issues. Also, I believe the year after Favre leaves Childress HC position becomes in doubt again. Not to mention Favre drastically increased the # of passing plays per game in Minn. last season. Regardless, once Favre leaves, they will run the ball more.

I also don't really see Harvin ever being a major TD threat, so his value is a lot higher in PPR for me. However, Harvin is stronger than Evans, and Harvin won't be pushed into the No.1 WR role in Minn. for the forseeable future, which may be a good thing. He's better when he's put in-motion imo.

That may seem negative, but I actually really like Harvin, and if Minn. makes a few good moves in future a lot of these concerns could be alleviated. Just sayin, there's ample opportunity for things to also go in the wrong direction.

I'm optimistically cautious, overall.

In a fantasy sense it's hard to rely on a guy that you can not have full confidence in starting until 15 minutes prior to the game because of his debilitating migraines.

That's the main concern out there, but really it's only the tip of the iceberg. There is no indication on whether or not Brett Favre will return for another season, and at present time the other options would result in a considerable step down in production. With CT leaving it's hard to tell what the team will bring in to replace him and what role that player will have. During last season AD saw the vast majority of the plays followed by CT, Rice, Harvin, BB, and Shiancoe. With Berrian healthy again and Shiancoe having a break out season it isn't easy to discern how the pie will be split this season.

On the flip side of the coin he is an amazing talent. Percy is great at settling into holes in a zone and then attacking the ball when it's at the highest point. Then when he gets his hands on the ball he is quick, elusive, and has power to shred would be tacklers. Percy makes a ton of third down plays as well as providing a good change of pace in the run game and he could easily be utilized more in those facets with CT gone.

I'm a huge Harvin fan. I think the concern on the QB situation is overblown. Obviously it'd be better if Favre stays(and I think he will) but its not like the Vikes would have no passing game at all without him. The migraines are an issue, but they are really the only major one as far as I'm concerned.

Harvin is a freakish talent. He's extremely quick and fast, with power to break multiple tackles every play. I think 2009 was barely scratching the surface of his upside. Keep in mind he's really just learning the WR position, he spent just as much time in college playing RB.

I wouldn't be totally shocked if Harvin picked up some of Chester Taylor's snaps at RB, Harvin is likely the only WR(other than maybe DeSean Jackson) who will contribute rushing the ball as well. He had essentially 900 yards and 8 TD's as a rookie despite missing a game and clearly being not 100% in others.

I think he's the perfect WR3 to have right now, and he has WR1 upside. I like him more than any of the other WR's from the 2009 draft class, and to be honest, I like his upside even more than Sidney Rice in the long term.

I have him around 10th in my rankings, with the caveat that I really wouldn't want to be counting on him much this year, but future elite production awaits, kinda like the Jonathan Stewart of the WR position.

Hopefully the doctors can figure something out with those migraines, because if they do the sky is the limit.

What similarities do you see in their usage?Harvin rushed the ball 15 times last year; Evans has 10 rushes for his career. Harvin averaged 13.2 yard/rec last season; Evans' only season with less than 15.4 was last year. Harvin returned 42 kickoffs last year; Evans has never returned a kick.

I love Harvin and drafted him early last season (non Dynasty, 4 keeper, PPR) in hopes that he could become a keeper. Considering this particular league (big $ league) doesn't award pts for individual kick off/punt I'm going to have to let the guy go back in to the draft. I shouldn't have reached on him based on the format of this league, but I fell in love with his game and was on that hype train. I wasn't thinking straight.

Love him, and if your league is dynasty and awards individual pts for kick off/punt then you have gold on your hands because he'll only get better as a pure WR. The QB situation worries me a little, but at the same time, if Favre retires I wouldn't be surprised to see Harvin run the ball a lot more to take pressure off their QB (whoever that is) and in a way that would spell AD as well now that Chester is gone. Hard to say....

Anyone think he is ready to be the #1 wideout in minnesota anytime soon?

Not with Rice in town.

Rice and Harvin will be 1A, 1B by 2011.

this may seem crazy now, but i do think Percy will be better than Rice. And i'm not knocking Rice at all, Percy's that good.

I like both Rice and Harvin in the short term, but who's going to be the QB long term? I'm not particularly interested in paying for Rice in dynasty. Harvin seems more talented, but I don't think his talent translates to superstar fantasy numbers.

Freakish is too strong a word. Randy Moss, that applied to. There are a half dozen fast guys like Harvin, like Josh Cribbs and a few others. I think Harvin is fine for what he is , a versatile player with great speed who will make some awesome plays. But I wouldnt trade for him in fantasy, would just hold on to him if I had him.

Depending on the QB, I just can't see that happening, and I'm a huge Percy Harvin fan. I just think smaller guys like him have their place in the NFL, and as much as I like Percy, I don't see him as a better talent the Steve Smith. Obviously Steve Smith is/was a monster, but the pounding takes it's toll on the smaller guys in the NFL.

well obviously you're a S.Rice guy, but i'm with travdogg, Percy's upside is much higher than S.Rice, at a current cost of 2-3 rounds later.
