Thoughts on this rule (1 Viewer)

So, in the league I played in, I got to the championship game. Four teams make the playoffs. The winners of last week advance to the finals, but the points from last week carry over. In other words, the better two-week total is the winner.

Naturally, I outscored my opponent this week (by 6+ points), but he had scored more than me last week (16+ points), so he will be the champion.

Seriously...isn't that the stupidest rule you have ever heard of?

And, yes, I knew going in what the rule was (it was my first year in the league), but still, it is stupid. Whoever heard of outscoring your opponent in the finals, but losing because they outscored you the previous week?

And for anyone wondering, me and the other guy were neck-and-neck all year. When it came down to it, we clearly had the two best teams (had the best records and the most points), so it is not like either of us were lucky to get to the finals.

I usually take losses in fantasy football with a grain of salt, but losing like this is lame.

It's the whole H2H rule I guess. I don't understand how your leauge is H2H all year than a 2 week total for the championship, but if that's the way you are structured it's a good topic for a rule change this year at your draft.

One of my leagues had a two week championship game, but the two super bowl teams played each other both weeks.

That is a pretty odd rule, IMO.

That rule supposedly IS going to be up for a vote, but I am probably bailing on this league, regardless. I am going to play in an auction league next year (which are 100 times better than draft leagues), and as much as I like playing fantasy football, paying $200 a league for two different leagues in one season ain't happening.

you are going to hear how great that is from guys who got burned by H2H matchups

you are going to hear how that sucks from guys who won out.

it is an age old battle...one that i am gonig thorough right now.

the guy I run a league with wants this 2 weeks system. I don't

Of course.....in another league we play in, I, as the 2nd behind him beat him in the div game by .4 (yes...point 4) points to get into the SB and then he goes on to loose the 3/4 game by .8 points finishing outside any money. So I can just imagine our next phone call.

Ghost Rider,

I hate to say this, but I'm going to. I don't believe that you would be posting this question if you had out-scored your opponent and won the championship.

The question you should ask yourself is:

Do the league rules foster the most equitable chance for the champion of the league to emerge?

If "no", then in spite of whether you won or lost you should make a motion within the league guidelines to have the rule adjusted.

If "yes", then take your loss like a winner and quit complaining.

Perhaps not, but I have said for weeks (before the playoffs even began) that I didn't like the rule. I even said yesterday that if I was going to lose, I was hoping he would outscore me this week, so last week's totals wouldn't have mattered. Trust me, you would be frustrated, too, if you had outscored your opponent in the championship, but lost because of a rule like that. I will be over it in a day, but for now, it is pretty annoying. :hophead:
