Thursday Night Games every week from here on out! (1 Viewer)

Who else is pumped up??? It seems to make Sunday get here so much quicker. :banned:
Looks like some real hit or miss games as far as the matchups go:Week 10: Broncos at Browns - MissWeek 11: Jets at Patriots - Probable HitWeek 12: Bengals at Steelers - MissWeek 13: Cardinals at Eagles - Probable HitWeek 14: Raiders at Chargers - MissWeek 15: Saints at Bears - HitWeek 16: Colts at Jags - HitThe best games look like the last two. Lot of potential duds on the schedule again this year. Raiders at Chargers? Did anybody seriously think that game would be a big one to watch in Week 14? Well obviously somebody did but why?

Hit or misses aside, an extra night of NFL Football is always a good thing.
I agree. I just think the NFL Network has hurt itself considerably with bad games the last two years and I think it's possible there will be more bad games this year. But I agree, Thursday night football is sweet.

with the flux of teams from good to bad and back....how can you know in april/may when the schedules come out, which games will be stinkers???

i mean even sunday/monday nights get the stinkers too.

The Browns-Broncos game could be pretty good. Cleveland's won 3 out of their last 4 games. If they beat Baltimore at home that'll give that'll be 4 out of their last 5. The Browns aren't as bad as people think.

The Raiders-Chargers game is a divisional rivalry game. They've been playing each other close the last couple of games lately even though San Diego always wins in the end. The Raiders had a 4th quarter lead against them the last time they played.

Not liking the Bengals and Lions games though. Those look bad but you never know how they'll turn out.

I was wrong about the Week 13 game. The one that's on the NFL Network on Thanksgiving is Arizona at Philadelphia.

Hard to call a game a miss before it's been played. The Broncos/Browns game was fantastic. I'd rather watch that than a 13-10 Giants victory over the Steelers. Raiders at Chargers involves 2 teams fighting for a division title. Maybe not a Miss.

Well... judging by the thread title, I don't think either of those two are Thursday Night Games.

Thursday night games are the worst idea the NFL has ever come up with.
Why? Not being a jerk, but curious as to why you feel that way?
Overall, Thursday games should not happen for the safety of the players. I can make an exception for Thanksgiving games because of tradition and all of that. Second, the NFL excludes many of its fans by having it on a cable network that, also, many people do not get unless they pay more money for it. Other than going to a bar to watch or paying the cable company, the fan loses out. Again, I can make an exception for Monday Night football, although it is a loose exception, for being on cable because they at least gave the fans the Sunday night game in exchange for having Monday night on cable. Fine. As for the game. It gives two teams a short week that they can prepare for but it also then gives them a long break and, in theory, giving them an advantage in some ways against their next opponent. To me, that is not fair for the players of either team. I simply despise Thursday night games and the fleecing of every dollar out of the fans they are trying to gain.

How do you feel about Monday night games on ESPN?

echoing some of the sentiment out there, i hate thursday night games and i hate that it's on NFL network, which isn't available to me on cable at all and i cannot get satellite.

thursday night games must wreak havoc on players who had sunday games -- only 4 days between games is not a lot of recovery time or time to study film on the opponent. plus, why do these games only start week 10 and not all season? you'd think with 16 weeks and 32 teams that they could get every team to play once on thursday night to even out the disadvantage even a little bit ...

and NFL network is such a joke, i don't see a reason for it to exist except as a moneygrab. i can't imagine they actually earn more money with NFL network than they would selling the rights to a thursday night game to a major network anyway!

 Its a money grab, but it doesnt grab money? And the NFL continues to do this willingly while losing money? Yeah?

The assertion of the NFL losing money may be a valid one. However, the NFL may not be losing any money but instead they may not be maximizing their product by offering the Thursday night games to a network or other cable station. The NFL is, however, trying to promote their own network by offering the game on their own network. The NFL is offsetting a potential short term loss (not optimized) for a future huge gain by having more games on their own network and not having to contract out their games. In effect, the NFL may have a short term loss in actual dollars that could be earned vs. a long term huge gain in dollars that will have a higher percentage going to the NFL.
