Thursday - The new buzz-kill for fantasy football (1 Viewer)

As much as I love football on Thursday I've come to dread it so far this season. This week will be no different. If your key players have an off game or if your opponent's players go nuts then you've got to sit around until Sunday just stewing on the fact that you've lost. Anyone else experienced that? I'm sure so many fantasy playoffs will be won before more than Thursday's game is even started with the performances of MJD, Manning, DClark, Wayne, Addai, MSW, etc.

I know what you are saying. It's really going to suck if Caldwell pulls a 180 and pulls his starters early tonight. Stewing over a big deficit during the semis won't be fun.

its fun if you dont have players going...cant have enough football if you ask me...but ya...if you have players going on a short week its such a crap shoot with injuries and preperation and traveling...yuck

Can't stand football on Thursday. That may just be because Time Warner doesn't have the NFL Network, and I can't watch the games, even if I wanted to.

with the way the games have gone this year on thursday, you aren't missing much.

The more the better - I'd be happy if they had football games 7 days a week. On a related note, I'd like to see baseball expand to a 365 day season. Doesn't really matter to me whether the games are televised, since I'm mostly glued to the box scores on Yahoo or the ticker on ESPNews.

the announcing team on NFLN are so boring they add nothing to the broadcast

hope they change them next season

I don't love football on Thursday. I hate it.

maybe cuz i don't have nfln
I love Fantasy Football, but the Thursday thing stinks. Too much of a good thing, its like Monday night is over and then we get started again 3 days later. No Build up whats so ever. And if you a bad game or your opponent has a Big time game its already over.

Football fans don't like an extra night of prime time football?
I don't like it, and I'm an NFL fan.I don't think it's good for the game, good nfl games necessitate time for healing, preparation, planning, practice, recovery, etc.It sucks for fantasy football, it sucks for pick 'em pools, and I've got other things i'd rather be doing on thursday night.I rarely watch these games even if I have players involved, and would be pleased if they quit doing them (except Thanksgiving - that's a fine tradition)

I get the feeling that some fantasy owners are not true football fans.
Definitely agree here.I used to be more of a true 'football" fan - knowing formations, coverages, etc.Now I'm more just into stat production from my players... part of this could be due to a waning interest in football, the other part could be because my hometown Chiefs have been absolutely unwatchable for a few years now.Call me a fairweather fan, but I'm not wasting 3 hours of time watching that complete crap they put on the field.

Love when they start playing on Saturdays though.
Agree here completely.I wish NFL football was on Saturdays rather than Sundays.I don't really enjoy the fact that I can't really go all out and party and enjoy myself on those Sundays when watching the games due to an intensive job on mondays.if they were on saturday i could enjoy it a lot more.

I hate it for the same reason someone else posted. It's too short a week for good preparation and I think that's why the quality of the games seems lower. I was listening to local radio (may have been Mike and Mike) discussing how teams don't even have time to draw up new gameplans and essentially run the same thing they just ran the previous week. Factor in how players aren't allowed to fully rest and heal and it just doesn't make sense and I don't see what it adds. Not to mention that I think it puts certain teams at a disadvantage because of this and it could affect their playoff hopes. If you have a key game late in the season that could mean winning or losing the division lead, is it right for that team to only have 3 days to prepare when your division rival has the full 7?

I don't mind Saturday games. Thursdays is just too much and just doesn't make sense to me. What's the point?

Sometimes it can be pretty sweet, though. One year our fantasy playoffs started on Thanksgiving, so we were with my family watching the games. I arrived late in the 1st game to find one of my better players got me only 2 points. The guy I was playing against was the commish who was my cousin's husband and we were watching the games together. In the 2nd game he had Larry Johnson who was having a monster game and boy was he running the smack. "Every yard is another dollar in my pocket. Cha-Ching, Cha-Ching!" So I had to sit and stew in silence.

But it was so worth it when Sunday came along and my guys exploded for huge numbers and I won by a few points in one of the highest scoring games in league history. I went on to win the championship and my team name the following year was "Cha-Ching!" He put it on the website but didn't put the exclamation point. I insisted that he change it to include the exclamation point.

Unless you have the ability to watch multiple games at the same time, this is an opportunity to see more games.

Start following College football more closely.... party and enjoy the games all day than recover on your couch on Sunday watching the NFL.

Thursday games are stupid because they give the home team a tremendous advantage over the visitor. The NFL will eventually "kill the fatted cow".

I would be happy with a Saturday Super Bowl. I will never understand why they play this game on a Sunday Night.

Try this website, and I think your problem is solved.www.atdhe.netEvery NFL game of the season is streamed, even blacked out games if your local team cant sell out(I live in Bay Area so Raider home games are rarely shown). Even has the Red Zone channel. The menu updates everyday. You wont see NFL games on menu until the day of the game/games. If you click on the game link before it has started, it wont work, so be sure to wait until you know your game has kicked off. This also works for most NBA,NHL, and MLB games and alot of NCAA. And the best part is that its free. I know watching football from a computer monitor can suck, but you will be surprised at the quality of these streams.Hope this helps

Anybody got numbers on this? Do home teams do statistically better on Thursday than they do on Sunday? Can't really say it's a "new" buzz kill as these games have been going on for years now.-QG

I would love a Saturday SuperBowl.

I like it. An extra day of football. Bonus for fantasy is that if I have a guy going, or my opponent does, I can see what the result is and gameplan the rest of my starters accordingly... high risk/high reward or play-it-safe picks.

I don't like it from a fantasy standpoint but the opportunity to see more football is always welcome for me. L:ast week my playoff opponent had the

But let's not lose sight of WHY there is Thursday night football..............this is about one thing mainly.....MONEY.

Thursday football is ###. Its nothing but a sideshow for the NFL Network.

Frankly I hate it, especially cause how my league does waivers.

With thursday games, waivers are done wed night. Thats it. No more after that.

Love Thursday night football. Hate that it is on the NFL network... how can an 8 billion a year brand broadcast a game that looks like it was produced by a highschool AV crew?

The audio is especially frustrating. They really do a terrible job all around. But Im still glad to have it.

I'm just glad Gumble was replaced. Matt Millen, I know. But baby steps are being made in the direction of progress.

Listening to Gumble could be fun sometimes. You just had to watch the game and imagine that Kermit the Frog was doing play-by-play.

So an extra prime time game is "###" because your league's rules are ###?

One quarter in the books ... Manning isn't even looking at Wayne let alone throwing it to him. MSW with 20 yards. Buzz-kill in full effect.

 I can't believe football fans are pissing and moaning about NFL games played AT ANY TIME!

Hey I love football and wish it was on every day ... but between having to find it online and swap around when the copyright owner shuts down the feed all night just because it's not on with Time Warner stinks too. That said, it seems like every single Thursday a key player has put up a stinker which you get to stew on all the way through the weekend instead of just watching it all unfold at once.

 Guess what, son. Key players put up stinkers each week. Who cares when they do it. If you don't like the NFL playing games on Thursday you have two options. Don't watch on Thursday or bench your Thursday players. I can't believe football fans are actually whining about games played on Thursdays. Get a life boys.
