Tice's press conference quotes:"Mewelde Moore, what else can you say? What another excellent fourth round pick. Onterrio (Smith) makes them miss, and Mewelde breaks a lot of tackles. Two different styles, both very good players and both have very good performances over the last two games - Chicago Onterrio and Mewelde yesterday."Q: What's your thinking about Michael Bennett?A: Well Michael won't be ready for this game this week.

I think the Bennett issue is known. But what about Mewelde? Moe still lingers around. Is Moe relagated to a blocking back or will he rob Mewelde of carries in the coming weeks?

I see no reason to why Mewelde wouldn't be used the same way he was successfully used last week, regardless of Moe. Moe might get GL carries, but I'd consider any touches inside the 10 for M&M to be gravy. I'll glady take another 150+ total yards.

Assuming Moe ever gets healthy enough to play he's, at best, passing downs and MAYBE goalline. Moe's value to the Vikes is going to be in pass protection. The goalline back doesn't matter as much since Moss is $$$.

This may seem extreme, but as an Onterrio dynasty owner I am very concerned about this. Onterrio appears to have clearly beaten out Bennett and Moe, and I was hoping that he would be the feature back next year. With Moore lighting it up, though, that is looking a lot less likely. Although as some have pointed out Moore's performance does make it more likely that Bennett gets traded, which is a good thing.Let's not forget that in college Domanick Davis was Mewelde Moore's backup. MM may have been drafted late, but he does have a pedigree.

No DD was Lebrandon Tofields backup...they went to LSU...MM went to Tulane...just a lil FYI

Moore played against a terrible Houston D.Who ran for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns on them the week before?I'll take Amos Zereeoue for 500 Bob. :hophead: :hophead: :hophead: :hophead:

If Mike Tice is hyping O.Smith and Mewelde Moore that can only mean one thing...Michael Bennett and Moe Williams will be splitting all the carries next week. :excited:

Bennett, Williams, Smith, and now Moore. Glad I don't own any Minnesota RBs.
drafted bennett  but just grabbed moore off waivers and he hada nice game for me. right now, if i was tice, i cant see how you can sit moore.

With out a doubt this an objective point of view. ;) Tice has got to be feeling like the luckiest coach around. This even makes Shanny look like second best on selecting RB talent. I don't know who in MINN is finding these guys but nice scouting to go with a nice line.

Why after only one game - against a poor run defense in Houston - is everyone ready to annoint Moore as the next great back to come out of Minnesota  There was no track record on Moore for Houston to do any game planning for! Now that there is game film, the next team that Minnesota plays (New Orleans) will be able to review and look for tendencies. If Moore can continue to produce at the level that he did on Sunday, then yes the RBBC senerio becomes more crowded. If Moore struggles next Sunday - his 15 minutes of fame may have come and gone.

O. Smith owner? :P

Well, it appears even Tice isn't really eager to get Bennett back :P On Moore and O, Moore was drafted to replace Moe, so expect him to assume the goalline and third and short role on the team when Onterrio gets back. He's shown the ability to break tackles and move the pile, which is what you want out of your short yardage specialist. Onterrio has shown himself to be an everydown RB, but why not use Moore if you can. Moe is also an everydown RB, but is getting up there in age. Bennett is the least complete of the RBs, and if he's on the team next year will likely be a change of pace, 5-6 touch a game RB.RBBC, with Onterrio and Moore getting the larget chunk

i know your all over Smith... however i tend to disagree... Moore looks like an everydown RB he plays and played much liek Onterio did yesterday. he has good hands/vision and he let his blockers set up for him the other day. Onertio is great however he is one doobie away from a yearly suspension, hes a bad apple and has had run ins with the team since draft day which is why he slid so far. if Moore does end up having good games while Michael Bennett and Onterio are gone i'd be concerned for both their owners. on a side note: Moe isnt old and hes signed i think for the next 2 years so the replacement thing is out the window.

As a Viking fan, Moore does offer the most as far as long term (after this year potential).Moe Williams is a work-man like back, nothing exceptional. He is only going to get slower and more brittle. Love the guy though and hope he retires as a Viking.Onterrio is one slip up from a one year suspension. Considering this is his second year in the league, a slip up is almost inevitable.Michael Bennett is one treadmill from being injuried for the year. This man cannot stay healthy to save his life (and\or career).Mewelde Moore is young has not shown signs of being injury prone (yet) and has not shown signs of having any issues outside of football that would keep him from the football field.Honestly, I cannot wait to see who we draft next year!

I got it!!Moore = ReubenO = GriffinBennett = T BellMoe = HearstAny questions?

OK, here we go...Onterrio is a better RB than Moore, simply because he makes people miss more than Moore (say that five times fast "more than Moore"), as Tice indicated. Chances are if you are running over people, you will not be as effective as if you make people miss. I agree Moore offers the ability to be an everydown RB, but I believe Onterrio is better suited for that role on the Vikings.Nevermind that all the Moore hype is based on one game versus Houston, which everyone stated even prior to the game that HOU is a cakewalk vs. the run. So temper the enthusiasm a bit. Remember Moore was a 4th round pick who was considered a 4th round value, Onterrio was a 4th round pick who was considered a first round value.Yes, Onterrio is one failed test away from a year's suspension, IF he fails that test within the next two years. I do not believe that possibility is as high as you all suggest. There have been numerous players who have made it out of the substance abuse program, one notable recent example is Jamal Lewis, and he made it out even though he regularly associated, and associates with known drug dealers/users.As for Moe, Tice publicly stated before the season that Moore was drafted to replace him eventually. He's mentioned a number of times that Moe is "old" maybe not using that term, but referring to wear and tear, etc. He may be signed for two more years, but that doesn't mean he's going to play two more years. BTW, Moe is 30, has been in the league 9 years, and has never been considered indispensible.

Paging Ricky Williams, paging Ricky Williams. Onterrio want to know who is your travel agent and where do you keep your stash. :rotflmao:

yeah, some haven't... but Ricky's the exception... name one other offensive player in the last five years to get a year's suspension

It started.

switz heres what i am saying: Bennett- is yes still the starter.... so brittle tho it will be HARD to keep this job. O. Smith- i think hes better overall then Bennett way more durable however is a head coach nightmare, not just recent but has had MANY past cases of foul play and drug use... i mean this lowered his draft day stock and is now continueing still. Moe Williams- yup he's 30 but have those legs have alot of tire on them? he was marginaly used his whole career and is a valueable asset to the vikes in passing scheme's. Moore- heres a highly thought of young man, was a good back in college (complete) has NO history here of drug use nor foul play and has produced since preseason, i hear rave reviews of him in camp/practice as well. granted it was one game but what i am gettign at is if Moore strings together a performance like the other night i would be worried for BOTH the Bennett owners and Smith owners.

What makes you say his stock is continuing down? What RECENTLY has made this so? Certainly, not his on-the-field performance...

This sounds eerily similar to the Rudi/Dillon saga. Everyone wants the feel-good story, and rightfully so. But, this is FF, and the issue is who is the best back. I'll take Dillon. I'll also take Smith.

gee i dotn know maybe his strike 2 in the drug league policy? maybe the 4 game suspension? maybe the prospects of havng Bennett the starter back by the tiem he is back from suspension? and on Moore... feel good? your right i do feel good with his performance. and i stated if he does this while the other RB's are out its a concern for those other owners. Tice loves this kid theres news reports on him saying so i'm not going to pimp Moore when the coach and players have allready. so if Moore doesnt continue his success theres no concern for either Bennett/Smith

Bennett- is yes still the starter.... so brittle tho it will be HARD to keep this job.
You won't hear me argue about that. When Onterrio comes back, if Bennett still isn't performing, the starter tag may get placed elsewhere.

How many? Once thrown off Tennessee for pot. Arrested for DUI in Oregon. One count of drug use in the NFL (two failed tests he calims form the same incident.) Time period covered? SIX years! Last incident prior to current issue? FOUR years - long enough for him to be out of the substance abuse program. And as for continuing now? He's been a model citizen in the NFL until the one drug incident. The coaches were saying how pleased they were with him earlier. He's going to be fine.
Moe Williams- yup he's 30 but have those legs have alot of tire on them? he was marginaly used his whole career and is a valueable asset to the vikes in passing scheme's.
So valuable he's not been used at all this season. Those legs have 9 years of wear on them, years that Tice has already said have taken a toll.
articleEarly in training camp, it looked as if Williams might be an odd man out as he sat idle while battling a heel injury. As his health improved, there was speculation the backfield-rich Vikings might swing a deal with a team in need of depth, such as Miami. Now the Vikings are using their depth, and Williams is back where he started a year ago."We have a unique situation here now that's affording me an opportunity again," Williams said. "To bring in the depth we have, that's the way to do it. Our running backs don't like running out of bounds or shying away from guys. That's why you get depth at positions."And it's why the Vikings, paying Williams a base salary of $660,000 this season, have bought themselves peace of mind."Some teams, when they lose one back, all of the sudden they're trying to trade for another one," Williams said. "With my salary and being older -- if things like that were a big issue, people wouldn't carry insurance."
I can't find the exact quote I'm looking for, but nevertheless, Moe is 4th in depth right now, and age is catching up to him.
Moore- heres a highly thought of young man, was a good back in college (complete) has NO history here of drug use nor foul play and has produced since preseason, i hear rave reviews of him in camp/practice as well.
Yes, Moore was well thought of coming out of college, a likeable young man. Not considered a game breaker, more of a third down RB. And being likeable doesn't win you games.
granted it was one game but what i am gettign at is if Moore strings together a performance like the other night i would be worried for BOTH the Bennett owners and Smith owners.
I suppose if Moore puts up a few more solid games, then there'd be reason for concern. He's done enough to merit some role on the field. But how much is the question. Let's give him a few games to see what he really can do.

gee i dotn know maybe his strike 2 in the drug league policy? maybe the 4 game suspension? maybe the prospects of havng Bennett the starter back by the tiem he is back from suspension?
First, this isn't strike 2. This is one incident since he's been in the NFL. The 4 game suspension is not a continuing downward spiral, it would have to be separate from the drug incident, and it's not it's a consequence of it.As for Bennett coming back, how is that a downward spiral for Onterrio's personal problems? It's totally unrelated.Listen, it's pretty apparent you like Moore, and there's alot to like, but believe me when I say, the kid is not as suited for the everydown role as Onterrio. I have alot of experience evaluating NFL talent, and Onterrio > Moore. Bottom line.

That's all old news. You said, "his stock is continuing down". News flash: His stock was already down.Again, what RECENTLY has happened to make his stock go lower?

Again, what RECENTLY has happened to make his stock go lower?
If by recently you mean in the last 2-3 months I'd say the fact that he failed a drug test and was suspended for 4 games. If by recently you mean in the last day, or hour, or minute, then yes I'd agree he hasn't done anything wrong recently...

agreed..... i figured some would see it with that view aparently not

I don't think it matters what Moore does, at best he'll be the No. 2 RB (assuming Bennett can't stay healthy) and at worst he'll be the No. 3 if Bennett can stay healthy. If Bennett returns and can stay healthy (big if there obviously) he'll be the starter; if Bennett either can't return or can't stay healthy, then Smith will get the starting job. If he does, I don't think he'll lose it. Moore will be a nice insurance policy, nothing more in my opinion.

Try to keep up. Clearly, that's been in the news for some time. That's why he was drafted so late. It's OLD news. Are you also not listening? I want this Hendo guy to back up his claim. This guy claims his stock is "continuing to drop" -- as if the last few weeks he's been spiraling...month, even. Show me, guy. He's clearly biased. As of yet, he's shown no proof.

It has gone up because Bennett was injured. Wouldn't you agree that M. Moore's stock is also up since preseason? What about Chester Taylor's right now?I think a better question is: Hass Onterio Smith impressed you with his football skills when he was the starter?I think the answer is yes. I didn't know for sure if he was the real deal and apparently he is. I will say I think a lot of backs will perform well in that system and behind that line but they're all not there, O. Smith is.I think M. Moore is an almost must start until Bennett or Smith get back into the lineup.
