Tice to Jags as Asst. Head Coach (1 Viewer)

Tice comes to the Jags as Asst. Head Coach for Offense(and O-line coach) at a salary of over 1 mil per season.

He was only making a million per as a head coach for the Vikings if I remember correctly. The effects of little Danny paying his OC and DC a mint are already being felt. Now you have to assume that Jack Del Rio is in line for a raise.

Tice was underpaid. Regardless, you are not comparing the same thing here. When Tice was hired as a head coach for 1 million a year his resume had no prior head coaching or coordinator experience. After Tice's contract was not renewed and he was hired as an assistant head coach for Jacksonville, his resume had 4 years of head coaching experience.

This is nice a favor from a former teamate Jack Del Rio. I am not sure Tice lands a job this quickly without help from an old friend.

That's cool. Friends should help friends, but I think Tice is pretty decent coach & he will do well.Make the same amount of cash, but have less responsibilites and maybe less work? Not bad...

It would seem that way, but the Jags do need help with the O-line and for all Tice's short comings as a head coach, he did a good as an O-line coach. He's also a former tight end and the Jags are rumored to be looking at O-linemen and TE for first day picks so he would seem a fit with their plans. As a Jags fan I like move. The O-line has been regressing recently and Tice should be able motivate them. Del Rio wants to play smash mouth football and the O-line just hasn't been good enough to do it.

I would have to say Tice is a pretty good coach. When evaluating what he did in Minnesota, one also has to evaluate what resources he was given. McCombs allocated very few funds for Tice to field a legit coaching staff and everytime somebody left, he was usually asked to promote someone from within the club, instead of hiring the best candidate available. It would be like asking Tom Brady to take the field with division II cast off players and ask him to be just as successful as Peyton Manning taking the field with players taken in the NFL draft.

He does not handle his players well at all.

Agreed as a fellow Jag fan. The o-line wasn't opening holes consistantly and the pass blocking was average to above average. And we desperately need a new tight end! Brady should have been gone 3 years ago. I don't like Tice as a head coach but as an assistant head coach and o-line guy I do like him. Now the big question is do we give Greg Jones the chance to start behind a hopefully revamped o-line or do we go fishing in free agency?

I think you guys are right. Tice like to mix it up with the big fellas, they fell he is one of them . He should bring a strong presence to the o-line.

I thought Jacksonville hosted the Super Bowl last year. What's in it for Tice? ;o)Actually as an OC Tice isn't a bad choice - he can go back to being good cop.-QG

What would make you say this?
The lack of team disipline.
If you are talking about the off the field, this issue was addressed by Taglibue earlier in the year when he told Wilf that the Vikings (prior to his ownership) fell well below the league's expectations for staff funding and security. If you are talking about on the field, I will need some specific examples.

Randy Moss comes to mind, but I don't know how many coaches would have controlled him.
