Tiki Barber going forward.... (1 Viewer)

I'll preface this by saying I drafted him at 1.4 in a redraft $$ league. The more I look at SOS, coupled with his current performance, the more I'm beginning to think that we're not going to see any of those explosive games we saw from him in over last season. Jacobs, while not taking that many more carries, looks REAL strong. Given the bumps and bruises Tiki's already nursing, it's possible that Jacobs takes more carries. Furthermore, the strength of Jacobs in short yardage leads me to believe (gut reaction) that Tiki's not going to be sniffing the goal line inside the 5.

Here's his remaining schedule:

@Seattle (tough m/u)

bye

Wash (tough m/u)

@Atl (tough)

@Dal (tough)

TB (neutral to easy)

Hou(easy)

Chi (miserable m/u)

@Jac (miserable m/u)

@Ten (creampuff)

Dal (tough)

@Car (?)

Phi (tough)

NO (easy m/u)

Basically, he's forced to run the veritable gauntlet. I'm beginning to think it may be time to shop him around. The real problem comes in assessing an accurate value. I'm skeptical to think he's a top 5 RB at y/e. I'd love to hear other FBG opinions on to what they see as the outlook for Tiki going forward. Thoughts?

I agree with the tough schedule.

I'm not sure why your worried about his performance so far. In non ppr leaugues he is the #9 RB and within 3 points of being #5. In PPR he is #5.

I agree. I did not like what I was seeing this year with Jacobs and his schedule looks terrible. I just moved him and Coles for LJ.

In the context of the previous two posts (about his performance to date and the trading for LJ), who would you rather have? I definitely would rather have Barber than LJ. LJ, between his lost offensive lineman and the QB situation, is looking like he could fall FAR short of expectations. SA also hasn't been too impressive. I would definitely prefer LT, but after that... :shrug:

Outside of LT, all the top backs have question marks.

not Rudi - he's hardly been considered a top back, but has a shot to outperform just about anyone ... glad he fell to me at #8

Depends on the scoring system. In my league where we value TDs more than yards, Tiki is currently tied for 16th. I had him as my keeper but traded him away, mostly because of hs schedule and Jacobs. Jacobs will vulture even more TDs this year, and with our scoring, thats a killer.

Hey Me Too!!!

I definitely would rather have Barber than LJ.
LJ has more rushing yards than Barber, more receiving yards than Barber, the same number of touchdowns, an easier schedule, and no Brandon Jacobs behind him.I'd much rather have LJ.(I'm assuing LJ = Larry Johnson rather than LaMont Jordan?)

Thanks for the input. I'm struggling w/ keeping him and praying for F or C Taylor to go bonkers (in Chester's case, continue his torrid pace), or trying to put my team on tilt and work over the owner of Rudi. Problem lies in the fact that the Rudi owner and I have similar team composition and I would probably have to take a hit at WR to help it along.

So you can gauge performance, Tiki is currently 16th in our PPR league (which highly favors backs and/or WR's eclipsing the 100yd mark in their discipline, not combined yards).

The real problem is convincing myself that at 1.4 I took Barber, gambled, and may be chasing a bad hand. Sure, I could draw the flush and he goes off, unexpectedly against tough opponents, or I could draw a blank and piss away most of my chips.

Personally, I think Barber is going to disappoint from my level of expectation (hope) from the draft. That's not to say he won't be an integral part of the offense. However, Eli's maturation as an NFL caliber QB necessitates that there will be fewer checkdowns to the RB as he reads D's better and finds better options further down the field. I hope I'm wrong. Dead wrong. But it seems many other posters here are equally spooked.

Thanks again for the fresh perspectives.

Patience seems to be in shorter supply this year than ever before. Tiki's numbers should go up once the Giants play with a lead. In the first two games, here's the breakdowns on the Giants game situation so far:

7:09 game time with the lead

30:53 game time with a tie score (includes 11:49 of overtime from Week 2)

93:49 game time trailing the opposition

The Giants have trailed by multiple scores for roughly 40% of the total game time. Tiki has 279 total yards despite these game situations. Imagine what he will do with the Giants in better situations.

wish I could trade him for a sack of potatoes at this point. Bye will make it even more difficult.

1st rd. bust, meet Tiki. Tiki, meet 1st rd. bust.

The Giants were hardly on the field in the first quarter (except for the Defense). Tiki did all that he could do with the Giants trying to play catchup. I don't consider him a bust at all.
