Time for your annual "Jeff George deserves a shot" story (1 Viewer)

I think there was a thread about this a week or so ago...he seems to be "doing the circuit" and vying for a backup job somewhere. He probably has more in the tank than guys like Brad Johnson did at the end of his career, but the reality is (1) he has not been in a game in 6 years and (2) he was never much of a mentor...lol.

Whitlock did not play with him at Ball State. Whitlock played with him in HS. I played on their team as well. George played for Purdue and Illinois.

Whitlock and George have remained friends. George has done many good things for the community away from football since he last played. I never liked Jeff back in the day but at this point it is just redicilous how he is abused by the media and other fans.

On talent alone, he would be one the top 5 backups in the league and I honestly feel he would be better than a handful of starters right now.

But continue on with the bashing. It seems en vogue.

He's better than what you have right now on the Cowboys, I guarantee it! I'd rather have him than Sorgi right now. And any other team that has an older backup that they aren't grooming to take over.McCown or George?

You guys can say what you want, I've seen first hand what his abilities are. If he wasn't a complete bunghole in his youth, he's every bit as talented as Favre, Elway, etc. His problem was attitude. If that is gone, then the problem is solved.

Many fall in the trap of saying once a bad apple always a bad apple. I'm sure most also think prison doesn't reform felons, etc.

Like I said, continue bashing. Even if you haven't a clue what his current ability is. This isn't an argument I can or will win since he won't get a chance. So, have your fun.

I guarantee you that Jeff George is not better then Jon Kitna. I realize he is your buddy and all but he has been out of football 5+ years to say he is even on the level of any NFL qb is ridiculous. I am not even sure at this point if he could compete in the UFL.

When pizzatyme says on talent alone, I'm presuming he means George's ability to throw the ball, which was unbelievable when he was in the league as a viable starter.

Great, great arm and natural skill. George is a perfect example of how talent can get you opportunities, but work, persistence, and heart help you make the most of him.

I'd like to see him get a chance if he truly has the skill left to earn it. However, there's a point when a player with a reputation for not following the game plan or not trying to elude the pass rush or take a hit in the pocket to wear out his welcome - even if he has changed your attitude towards the game. There are only so many opportunities in the same area after you don't make good on them.

Agreed. He has burned many a bridge no doubt. His passing skills are undeniable.John Kitna? Come on man. Warner was out of the league. He seems to be skilled enough to be a viable starter. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
