Titans 2018 (1 Viewer)

Mike Adams Steelers T was waived.

Put a claim in, see if he'll follow doctors orders to "fix" his back, then thank Munchak for training yet another Titans lineman.

I feel bad for that guy. What a bad lawyer he must've had. To get stabbed by three car jackers and they claim "he started it" from within his car...it's brutal to lose that case. Even if he was some angry jerk behind the wheel that day, since when does that make it OK for three guys to stab him? That case made no sense to me.

He is probably longing for a new start somewhere

Warmack went off about the former OL coach in Prisco's column.

He didn't play any different regardless of coach though

Adams was a turnstile on the field even before all of that other trouble. No thanks.

Yeah, those comments seemed a little self serving. But AFAIK the change of OL coach only happened this January so we've not seen him play under Russ Grimms tutelage.

And he's certainly put himself in a place where there are no excuses. Let's hope something good comes from that

Listening notes-

Conklin toughness is his brand, tougher than Tunsil and Stanley. Not a super athlete. Titans probably didn't want to move Lewan to RT

Dodd not an OLB, way better prospect than Shaq Lawson (Titans introduced as OLB, not DE, right away) He did say Lebeau has done some things, just he didn't think OLB

Austin Johnson needs to develop pass rush move but fine plugging type to begin at NT.

Murray and Henry very very similar backs in terms of their skillsets. Neither creative, rely on good Oline. 'will get better at pass pro' so he's probably not very good at it at first like most rooks.

Discusses gap scheme power O, then Tretola perfect G for this. Looked very bad in pass pro at times, moves people in run game

Byard, Griffin replacement, "best true free safety prospect in this draft." Needs to get stronger, classic free safety. Best strengths on film, real high football IQ-anticipation too

Sharpe- possession WR, #2 or slot, tall and lanky. Meticulous route runner for a college kid. More smooth straight than laterally quick

Sims- concerned w lower level competition, otherwise what ya look for in a CB. Physical corner, press

Wallace- flashed some, work in progress, has a chance has some tools. Not explosive

Reed- really really quick feet. Alot of technique issues, talent is there though. Needs to learn a whole lot more though

So owner Strunk had something happen with Goodell. I haven't heard yet.

Her response was to say she's going to buy a home in Ten but she will live in Waller, Tx(near Houston) still.

I don't know if this "satisfies" his live locally demand when one makes a public announcement that they won't live in the house.

IMO it's very antagonistic.

My guess is he laid down the law, she's crumbling some and her family will be saying "oh stay there on the weekends you go to games then, don't push your luck."

I guess we await how Goodell reacts by her saying she won't live there

Why can the Titans never get their picks signed? #6, 7, 10-18 all signed, but not #8 - are they waiting for #9 to absolutely have no excuse for not getting it done?

Same story every year, but this time with a new GM

weird delay.

First there was a couple days where teams are making announcements that this guy or that guy is signed. On day three, the Titans announce most everyone is signed all at once.

And now....

Walker signed a 3 year almost $15 million extension.  Just over $8 million guaranteed.
I found something interesting about this.

"We will likely renegotiate around the third year so he can retire here." paraphrasing

He makes a bump in year three(that he'll never get?)

His salary in year three is still not as high as Wright or McCourty this year, 7-8 mil.

Waiting for this to be significant. It's gotta come up again

Rookie minicamp began, lots of articles out there.

Some thoughts from friends-

slot got a lot of work and TE not as much. FB in on most every play if not every play.

One CB took some flack for hitting and then intercepted one and swatted away the next. Two friends disagree on whom it is. The "i'm gonna make a play no matter what" caught their attention though

Also Conklin looked ordinary

PK wrote Henry uncomfy in drills and posted videos

Thank Bri.

I know you have been stumping for increased use of Fowler at FB. How is he as a receiver?
fantastic. Big burly, not smooth runner, but he can catch anything. Alabama guys say he played WR there, Titans put him in slot his first camp.

Kind of like Charles Way of Giants or William Henderson of Green Bay. There's a brute-ness to him that isn't Larry Centers like at all. Alstott? I don't know...I think you know what I mean though

If what yoyu are saying is correct then both Whis and Mularkey should be quartered for not using him more last year

He was the top fullback in the draft. 4th round pick and FBs can go an entire draft without any at all being drafted.

He was a very good HS RB but when he got to Alabama and saw the competition to play RB, he was faced with beating out some of the best, transferring and losing a year of eligibility, or what? The what was he honored his commitment and asked the coach if he could play FB, beefed up, and did real well.

As far as talent he was exactly what your head jumps to when you think RB at Alabama but not their top best of best type. You probably know 20-30 RBs like him over the years. He was a talent.

He was adored, really one of their favorite players- the staff expected him to transfer to another school but his determination and honoring his commitment blew them away. They weight gain was done properly, he lived in the weight room and followed the trainer's advice. Henry tells an awesome story about going to Alabama and being 'thrown back' by noticing he was a FB. He lost track of him and assumed he was still a RB. When he was drafted, while on the radio with midday he realized he never even asked to go to Fowler's house. Fowler had texted or called to say congrats and can't wait to play together again and Henry just went. A room was ready for him and...that's so cool. Unspoken yet knew he could count on him.

He had like 4 receiving TDs and Amari Cooper had 3 his senior year, or 5 and 4 (the number was low) but the press wrote "had more receiving touchdowns than top WR Amari Cooper."  (Fowler had like 15 catches, it was unimpressive but again...that sentence) Despite that being blown out of proportion, Cooper rolled with it and said tons of nice things about Fowler. A story of him learning the playbook and Fowler helping him.

I was furious they wasted a fourth on him. He was rated a sixth round prospect and that was considered very good for a FB. Battle was still unsigned and he did well at FB the year before. Then I read and got excited. I loved that he said he was happy he could help get Landon Collins to the Giants. I was confused and saw the trade got them an extra pick and...look at you, Fowler not taking in the praise for being drafted but shining it on your former teammate.

Totally "fell in love" with this guy after the draft. Everything ya read is just fantastic.

He was very much in the Titans plans-

Last year the Titans were to do a set of plays they referred to as F position. It was high school split end. FB, RB, WRs, TE would all take turns in the slot (sometimes the result of a shift) and that would pose a matchup problem as the D didn't know who would be there. It was in preseason games and I don't think used in week one but was used a number of times in week two. Week 3 or week 4, the Titans were about to win. Mariota's first game winning drive. It looked set up well. Klooooooooooooog came in at FB, Fowler was the RB and they were to pound it in for the W with the game clock running out. After the snap, the opposing DL quite literally beat every Titans OL off the snap. In a second, Fowler had nowhere to go. Klug took someone out and that was it. He ran right trying to find some room, then backed up and backed up.(time had run out, there was a second or so on the clock at the snap). He was gonna flip it but the defense saw that coming, he ran back some more and...30-35 yard loss. It was absolutely brutal looking.

Klug had blocked in preseason and every single rush play whether it was Fowler or Andrews running was a success. They called it the Jumbo package. This had stemmed from 2014 success too. This also got Whis creative and DE Blackson actually caught a TD pass as a TE last summer. Called back due to penalty but you saw his athleticism/

So back to that play- according to many this is when Whis was done. It may have taken a few weeks but they all saw it. Whis "lost it" and flipped out. Fowler barely played after. 6%? of plays. Klug didn't play FB again unless late in the year and I missed it. The guy from the Browns would never get another carry and he had been benched for a fumble so he wasn't even in the game. He changed the OL. He scrapped all of their spread type plays that the Baylor coach had come work with them on in camp. They went with a 3 TE set which dramatically impacted the # of plays WRs were in on. I didn't know then (it was an embarrassing last second play, people called for Whis' head on a platter but...) but looking back, it is obvious that was the end for Whis.

Because ya just gotta love the guy, Fowler became a ST beast and Mularkey would get him back in at FB. Mularkey was the TE coach and adored his TEs so it wasn't that much but he got back in at FB. Signing Turzilli, Yannick, and Tavai- this was all Mularkey taking over and trying to change Whis' mistakes. Spain in at G was a few weeks later.

Like Bia alluded to, I posted over n over my gripes Fowler wasn't in.

You can google Fowler and enjoy. There's so much. I'm very confident he will be adored, as every successful FB is, by the fan base soon enough.

The 5’11”, 254-pound fullback out of Mobile, Alabama made a name for himself at the Capstone by being a jack of all trades. The fantastic fullback provided the Tide with an edge due to his ability to block, receive, and carry the ball. He ran for 738 yards in his career at Alabama, with five rushing touchdowns. He served as a go-to-man in short yardage situations.

Fowler can run between the tackles like a bull. When given the ball, he bursts into defenders with pulverizing strength that makes him very hard to bring down. He lined up at running back for Alabama many times, helping them earn much-needed first downs or tough yardage.

Fowler provides the usual skill set that a fullback needs. He can lead block very well or pick up edge blitzes if needed. The Titans finished 26th in the league in total rushing yards last year, so the boost that Fowler provides for the run game is huge. Bishop Sankey is likely to win the job as starting running back this year and having a bruiser in front of him to clear holes is going to be huge. The combination of Fowler’s run blocking ability and a talented offensive line (anchored by former Crimson Tide guard Chance Warmack) will surely lead to an improvement in the run game.

With all of of that being said, one of the Fowler’s most impressive skills is his ability to receive. He can catch the ball out into space and run through tackles to pick up first downs. He can easily slip past defenders in the flat to score needed touchdowns on the goal line (just ask Texas A&M). Fowler actually had more receiving touchdowns (7) than rushing (5) while at Alabama. He has very soft hands that will provide a safety valve for Mariota.

Fowler is set to make an immediate impact for the Titans. He is a consistent player who can be called upon to do whatever Ken Whisenhunt and this Titans offense need him to do. He will protect Mariota from getting hit while also clearing holes for Sankey to pick up big yardage. Fowler can help this Titans’ offense improve and develop into a deadly force.

Fowler isn't overly impressive in any one area, fundamentally or athletically, but he's very well-rounded as both a blocker and pass-catcher with the skill-set to serve as a versatile fullback who can line up all over and handle different responsibilities.

He got signed and then retired to enter the ministry

Now I'm totally intrigued

Terry McCormick all over it last few days-

Byard retained most as per Mularkey

Conklin and Tretola played both sides

Aaron Wallace played all 4 LB spots

so rushy- tryout guys got off plane, crash course on playbook, then to practice

On 1045 Robinson announced move with Mett was to be fair to him.

Biggest news which won't get any ink- he will no longer handle tryouts and daily transactions. That will be done by their new director of player personnel. (Hired last week I think)

He's very into the whole we've got a plan, everybody stay on the same page and do their part type thinking. I like it a lot, wonder if that's risky in today's NFL. He will take the hit and be fired, not the scouts or personnel people. I like it a lot though and it mirrors the Pats.

This is not an on field move but it should be a big flare set off for the players. Fill your role and be confident all the parts equal a whole toward success.

Aaron Wallace played all 4 LB spots
This makes me angry already. Last night I saw a quote I hate "he's more athletic than we expected."

Last year Poutasi was not as expected and more of a G. Blackson was "more athletic than we expected" and as a result, the NT they drafted played more End than NT and they still had that hole in the middle of the DL.

What bothers me is the scouts have a year (if not four) to do every bit of research they can. There's workouts and how can they not be 'dead on' about a player's athleticism? Results or how they transition to NFL, maybe intelligence and "football IQ" that stuff wouldn't be on tape necessarily but athleticism? What are you doing with your time then?

If I were the moustache and only there to oversee, I'd totally fire any scout (regardless if he's Robinson's guy) if the GM or Coach say a player is more athletic than we thought.

Aaron Wallace played all 4 LB spots
The positive is oh wow Lebeau has a nice toy then.
Woodyard could be replaced. Nate Palmer was a nice signing from Green Bay. Dodd is going to make it as Orakpo and Morgan's backup. Only so many LBs on the 53.

Wallace needs to do well at more than one spot. Note he played all four, not he did well at all four. He could have, just wasn't stated. If he does do well at multiple spots, well then I'd consider the camp battles to be-

Yannick and Tavai versus Wallace

Palmer versus Woodyard

I think Bass is a lock after last year's fill-in.

Spence won't make it then or put him in the Palmer Woodyard battle

Mount has to totally step up, as a former pick(few of these guys are) he need to make a name for himself quickly.

Staples will have to do something more than be their ST dynamo or just go to Cleveland now for the third time he reunites with Horton

Thoughts on Hunter and McBride going forward? Hunter a possible trade candidate? McBride stuck as a gadgety guy?
Neither, today.

A rumor is that Hunter and Sankey were shopped during the draft but no suitors found. Others have stated Hunter was not, just Sankey. What non-Titans fans miss is Hunter has been the best Titans WR in preseason the last two years and the last two camps. He is the only one that learned all three positions in Whisenhunt's offense. There is, absolutely, a disconnect between Whisenhunt riding him, him "coming through" doing the work, and the lack of regular season results. Don't forget though, their base O was a two TE set AND they liked to go 3 TE. This is NOT favorable for WRs. Their new offense is very WR happy and demanding of them as they signed two former WR coaches to their staff. They seem very curious of Hunter. If he doesn't pan out, they'll be OK with the risk of having to cut him. Whereas Sankey, I think they've had enough.

McBride is no gimmick guy. He is an efficient route runner that is very quick. He was too nervous last year. He only looked settled down late and even that is debatable. He too was in the least favorable O for WRs, of course. He's going to have to get comfy in a hurry. I would be very confident he'll get picked up if waived. If he can get comfy, he could be a killer slot WR, but he's pretty useless til that day. I guess he's a KR. It's normal for young guys to be nervous n all but, he has no time left. They have too many WRs in camp.

The Titans have some curious depth at WR where on paper they are some sort of illustrious corps full of first and second rounders and guys that led CFB in receiving but that's just on paper. Mularkey and Robinson (give it a few weeks, the OC and WR coach will say same) have each stated their evaluation will be results based. Someone with high potential will be cut for only being potential, not results. It's inevitable, usually happens in scenarios like this. I'd bet against it being Hunter though.  My crazy prediction earlier was that it would be Wright. I guess everyone will have a guess at some point.

As far as McBride, I'd say yeah it's likely he is cut or traded. I'd consider whether to keep him in dynasty based upon how much his new team uses the slot. Ignoring Edelman and Amendola for a sec, the way the Pats use the slot would be wonderful for him.

Also, the Patriots use the slot WR and TE like a beautiful symphony where it's crowded but Gronk and Edelman think they have all the room in the world. The Titans have never been that way. They are the traditional way of either a TE having success or a slot WR. There's crowding issues and they always favor the TE regardless of OC. Delanie was excellent last year. That won't change in 2016. Ten is not the place to be if you're solely a slot WR.

they need tackle depth now. He could have beat Chance out, possibly and was going to be a nice useful backup if not.

Former Giant Beatty I think is available. If we're talking backup tackles, he'd be fine.

I'm waiting to see Tyler Marz. People thought he was a good UDFA for the Titans.

MSommer you could always go to OTAs and remind Mularkey that Poutasi was a tackle too

Is Ron Leary worth going after?  What would he cost?
The Cowboys wanted too much during the draft. He was very tradeable but yet they wouldn't give him up. They even signed Looney (exTitan) to cover the expected spot when he's traded. Very hard to follow with him.

I'd swap him for Warmack in a second

They need a T too though. A good one. If Conklin were to be excellent from day one, that would be quite a feat. To have drafted Lewan (who was) and do it again...that'd be surprising. 90 some odd percent of tackles all struggle as rooks.

Completely unlike how they handled Poutasi. They'll need to pull him, explain, maybe show him on an IPad, and then put him back in or start him next week. Teach, watch him grow, teach, watch him grow etc.

They seemed to just yell at Poutasi or voice displeasure

Nothing but still gets a smile- DGB made two catches yesterday that had Mariota calling him a stud

PK is on vacation, Terry McCormick is best with updates

More TEs, you can never have enough
That Alex Henry guy they signed has been on the radio. It sounds like he had a not so good career at U of Tennessee but then a great final game. There's he and Supernaw and Cunningham fighting for one spot probably. Fasano and Walker seem safe to me

It was nice to watch the videos and see how excited the Titans were

http://cover32.com/2016/05/25/excited-titans/

I'm trying to share what I wrote and not be an annoying clickbait guy but don't want to type it all here again. Hoping that's OK. I enjoy chatting here. Please holler if not, I don't want to overdo it and offend anyone.

Orakpo thinking Dodd was going to be a great one was wonderful to hear, also like the more blitzes talk. I love the concept that quarterbacks don't like playing against a Lebeau D.

Doubling down on dumb.

Not good
Wasn't the hiring of Bob Bostad questioned at the time? Seems like a long time ago.

Warmack may be correct that he could use better coaching. His attitude doesn't seem very coachable however if the criteria is that the coach be a former player worth listening to.

Who is the offensive line coach now?

Russ Grimm I believe
