Titans 2018 (2 Viewers)

Thanks for posting the link.

I am wondering though, when (ever?) a coach was hired and his star players decided to come out and say publicly that the weren't pleased with the hire? Seems like that would be career suicide...
Someone asked Kuharsky how the Titans will spin this to the public and his reply was something like- use Mariota, bring him to pressers and put his face everywhere)not Mularkey's)

I think he's right and they'll do that.

Announcing in the middle of a playoff game to minimize negative outbursts was 'something else' too.

Could this be the first step for relocation? Like when you don't want to break up with a girl so you do everything you can so she wants to dump you? Haha...

Can I throw something at you guys-

What about the Patriots drafts makes you think he'll take a big time RB in the draft?

What do you see from Patriots drafts that makes you figure the Titans will do XYZ?

Is there anything of a Patriots sort of model that you think means he'll draft/sign certain positions or shift emphasis here or there etc?

Yes I do understand bottom feeder versus quality team difference.

I can't think of a more uninspiring hire to your team than this. You essentially send the message to your team that you are accepting sub par leadership. Murlarkey may be a good guy and even a decent positional coach or decent NFL mind, but he is no way suited to be an NFL head coach. This may be one of the worst hires I can remember based on everything in play.

Head start? Last team to fill HC position and sounds like retaining most of their staff.

So the Titans are the first team to fire their head coach, which gave them more time than anyone to look for a replacement, and they respond by being the last team to make a hire and making that hire Mularkey and bringing in an old retread to work at OC to work with franchise QB.

Yikes!

Folks, presenting your new leader in most dysfunctional run NFL team, your Tennessee Titans!

I always resented Archie for steering Eli out of the San Diego because he had reservations about the way the franchise was run. But now I feel like it's a shame Mariotta does not have an Archie in his corner.

I don't have any problem with Robiskie...for now. Everything seems to have this 'for now' feel as they don't hire someone that "hits out of the park."

I once wasted a Saturday going through play by play and posting it here to show everyone that Titans WRs were not targeted for almost all of quarters 2 and 3 in 2014, after Locker-so much of the year.

I don't in anyway think the WR targets, routes, or involvement in the run game were appropriate.

Run game which is rarely talked about for WRs-DGB had at least 10 beastly blocks, with 10000 TEs on the roster and a reasonably fast FB, why can't they run outside? Do some trick play where you use DGB blocking? How about we see him run a reverse just for the sake of trying because he is a giant fast human being with a mean streak.

I don't care much for people discussing the routes Kendall ran or didn't run or how he came back to it when the QB was under pressure. If he's a 100 catch guy like he seemed in 2013 then what happened the last two years?

Hunter was a very high pick and I've seen talent and ability. Why does he stink?

I can go on and on but I genuinely think they have a lot of talent at WR- a wealth of totally unpolished talent but every single guy frustrates me in a "I saw you play well at the NFL level!!! I saw it! Why do you stink?" type way. Usually the rooks don't have 'it' and look, well kinda like McBride with that overly wet behind the ears style where ya know they're super nervous and only going to be moderately useful-if at all- til they calm down. He is the only one. Everyone else stepped in and played fine at some point which is normally good like the game isn't too big or too fast for them.

Robiskie is a good WR coach.

I hated Loggains 3-4 yard crossing routes. I did like his 3-4 passes a game being deep bombs, that's it. I hated all of Whisenhunt's offense except week 1 in 2014 against KC. In 2015 I liked some of the first few weeks and that one week where Mariota was smooth as silk with his college style plays and many snap N throws. That's it. I hated the rest, including Mularkey's dependence upon 3 TEs. Mularkey did finally use the FB some as the season closed but still not much and I hated that.

So after all this not using the WRs right, I am very much OK with a WR coach being the OC. He's older and can go back to the old Raider days where they threw it deep a lot. At least I am assured the WRs will be part of the offense.

Robiskie is old old old school so I expect the FB used.

Jim McNulty was to stay as QB coach. I am annoyed he was fired or allowed to walk. He coached what 5? 6? QBs with little experience to be ready to play. He had Mett playing better than anyone expected in 2014 and Mariota looked sweet in 2015. All that talk of continuity...cmon, he should have stayed.

Jason Michael, the QB coach. Ya don't demote someone in the NFL. What is that? Their O stunk so let's give him the prized rook to work with one on one?

*****************

To reiterate-

I wanted Norm Chow. If not, then I wanted someone whose name is synonymous with high flying offense.

If they are keeping Michael(ugh) and Mularkey(ugh) then yeah a WR coach is what I want added to that mix.

First and foremost, don't forget Mularkey was an OC for much of his career. For some reason people are forgetting that and making this like if Mike Shanahan were hired, we'd be using Robiskie's offense. Cmon if the head coach is an OC and involved like he is, then it'll be his brand.

In the presser he is also calling it "my offense."

QB development Qs- Matt Ryan and Kordell AFTER he adjusted. That's all I see in Mularkey's background.

Losman, Harrington, Kelly what's his name, Maddox there are a lot of misses but many of them were guys that the average fan said wouldn't pan out.

Mularkey says his offense has evolved to be simple or simpler. The gist of it is it will be wayyyy easier for the young guys to pick up than Whisenhunt's. I assume more about beating their man than being one of 11 chess pieces and oh no, one didn't get his job done. Whis totally did that wrong.

Mularkey's Os had the air that two WRs were capable of 1000 and IIRC there wasn't so much slot work, that was TEs. The WRs block like a Parcells or BB or Gibbs or Fisher offense, I expect this to become a point of emphasis. They usually half effort there so, I expect it to be a future issue.

I don't think he has his prized RB- a number of Steeler RBs or Michael Turner but he does really like Andrews more than you might imagine. Derrick Henry is ginormous so I expect him to be compared to Michael Turner soon so that in a few weeks every draft guy can have him going to the Titans.

I want them to add a RB, a big deal type RB, but I get this vibe they're going with Andrews. I DO remember he praised each some. Andrews by far the most, Sankey 2nd most(but didn't get the love on the field) and Cobb n Fowler only a bit. They were NOT mentioned as an area of concern in the presser.

Hope? could be the reason

Doug Martin could be the reason.

Some pathetic too many positions to list excuse

Long presser with new GM and "new" coach and they were not mentioned...we'll see how this plays out but usually it is that we whine in the summer that they didn't add a back and look back to this presser as "should have seen it coming."

I would be OK with it. Mularkey is high on Andrews and I like him even more.

Everyone is pointing out all these concerns with the RBs in this draft and they need OL and DL which you have to pick early if you want a gem. To take a RB and get a 3rd 4th round OL DL might not be the best complete draft.

They need a shut down corner as the young WRs in the division are awesome. Verner is a real possibility otherwise, they could get lucky with a later round guy like Finnegan but if you want a thoroughbred you take a CB in the top of the draft. Everyone pointing out Finnegan lately totally misses that he was a complete steal and unlikely repeat...ever.

I wouldn't have a prob if they went Bosa, some OL

I wouldn't have a prob if they traded down and went DL/CB or OL/CB

Nor if the third round is the missing part from above scenarios.

I don't want a 4th round RB or later. We got Cobb for that. If above is the plan then free agency or stay pat I guess.

I can deal with Andrews another year and picking a gem in 2017. I don't want to deal with a swiss cheese OL.

During the game announcement Saturday, Mularkey let it be known he had final say on 53.

Today Robinson let it be known he has final say and Mularkey supposedly nodded.

Not sure what happened there

Robinson wants tough physical smart players (what about DGB :-) )

Not changing scouting dept, teaching them how we(pats?) scout.

Came off real nice with his "please let us earn your support" message to fans.

Minor but...they missed opportunity to coach Senior bowl and now first day shrine workouts/practices.

New Titans' GM Jon Robinson already has put the No. 1 pick up for sale. "We will look at any and all offers that come this way," he said.
The translation of what Robinson is saying is, "We don't need a QB. The Browns are picking second and are going to take Goff. If you want to jump the Browns to take Goff or if you are the Browns and want to make sure no one jumps you this pick is available for the right price"

I mentioned a couple other teams I expect them to look at. Here's the obvious with the Steelers South label-

The Steelers have some cap issues and a lot of players that would be cheap vets that are an upgrade.

http://www.steelersdepot.com/2016/01/quick-end-of-season-overview-of-steelers-offseason-free-agent-players/

The cap issues are real serious for them as they're maxxed out- to me they look over the cap but that can't be so...they are 'right there.'

There's a dozen or so players that make 8 mil or more with Big Ben at 21 mil avg per year. Unless someone renegotiates they're going to have issues re-signing their own and paying the draft picks and/or free agents.

It's possible the Titans(or anyone) could trade for one of these studs to give them the cap relief they need.

I'm not a close enough follower of them to really dig into this, guessing above. In short, they have issues so now is the time for Lebeau to ask about getting some of his guys. If they could add a quality T and DT in free agency that would be outstanding and make the draft wide open with possibilities. Naturally, I have zero issues with signing a Munchak OL.

Lebeau seems to be staying, everyone with a different quote where they are 'confident' he will.

He is technically Asst HC so it's unclear if that leaves DC position open or not.

He wanted to coach with Horton. I assume help would be wanted but teaching a young protege type would be more work. Depends what the ol guy wants to do. He can just assume that role and be DC/Asst HC.

Schwartz is rumored for Philly now so I hope they decide soon.

Has to be something else going on. No team is this ignorant

Seems the top pick is willing, or should be willing, to trade down most years. Amy year there isn't a top flight qb prospect and the top team needs a qb. Yet the trade rarely happens.

Today Underwood and Robinson were on 104.5. Kuharsky tweeted a lot about that.

Much of his talk was OL with some DL

Scouts scout similar to what he's used to so should be easy transition

I guess check out his feed for more.

Last night or early morning, Jim Washburn agreed to be defensive assistant for the Dolphins

Him being Schwartz friend, I sorta new this was coming....

Don Banks says Eagles signed Schwartz as DC

Missed out on two gems IMO.

Now if Lebeau decides not to stay they have a problem.

Titans got Giants DL a day or two ago and have been interviewing their OL coach. Waiting for a decision. Apparently Russ Grimm jumped in the mix. Seems to me Flaherty is better candidate and Grimm has more ties to team.

The Giants DL under Coughlin was excellent most years and although Reese/Accorsi does have an unmatched talent for drafting amazing DL a coach had to develop them all. Naturally my fave was the 4 DE set. I'm happy for Casey and if they go 4-3, then for Morgan too. The guy that coached Strahan, Osi, Tuck, and JPP can surely find a way to help their game to get after the QB. Quite frankly I don't know that there are a lot of DL coaches that can help Casey's game at this point. He's near his peak.

Flaherty twice had five new OL pushed upon him and the Giants rarely drafted highly ranked linemen. Honestly he's kinda similar to Munchak under Reese with what he's given and still have to produce. Remember how many times he got a 3rd-7th round linemen when they wanted a first rounder? Lesser free agent or UDFA? Knowing the Titans history, I think this is quite appealing about Flaherty.

I don't see Grimm as a developer but a guy that makes veterans better. I'm not sure if he's the teacher they need.

I'd be OK with either, just make a decision already.

Chris Snee (long time Giant that played all five positions on OL and IIRC made pro bowl as C and G) is supposedly looking to start coaching. He is also Coughlin's son-in-law. As Coughlin's coaching search died, I've heard nothing more of him. I wouldn't be surprised if he joins Flaherty as an assistant. I've said many times how I wanted the old Titans able to return and mingle like they used to, well I'll take a probowl lineman that played all five spots too. He's a well known good guy so that could also help in getting the ol timers to return.

Underwood is replacing every seat and some other renovations. Like I said earlier, this guy is rrrrrrrrrrrrrreally trying to make the fans happy.

Some on twitter say it's not a done deal between Titans and the Giants former DL coach so...I'm not sure there.

http://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/nfl/titans/2016/01/18/titans-underwood-not-concerned-sale-speculation/78981196/

Titans president Steve Underwood has repeatedly made it clear in public comments over the past year that the team is not for sale.

But might the NFL itself — or other owners — be pressuring ownership to sell? Those theories have been rolled out on multiple occasions by some members of the national media.

Underwood said Monday he’s not aware of other owners being disgruntled with the Titans.

“I’ve never heard that,” he said. “I’ve never heard a single other person say that.”

In addition, Underwood said it didn’t matter if the league hypothetically might feel the Titans needed new ownership, nor that the NFL might hypothetically be lining up potential buyers for the team.

There's no way we all heard it and he didn't. Plus were all 30 owners present(Haslam wasn't) doing cartwheels saying yeah we have to wait for the woman that lives nearby? Cmon. If person A flies halfway across the country and person B lives nearby...I'm just not buying that comment.

Followed up with the league "hypothetically" finding replacement buyers really makes me hmmmmm here

Lebeau did accept Asst HC and DC role so they don't need to fill DC spot and if Mularkey is fired midseason he is the only asst head coach so he'd be interim

PK has been crabby lately on Periscope, moreso each night.

My GUESS is he was grumpy the coaching news was leaked to Nat'l media and not him.

He's been nitpicking Qs and just looks like a guy that has had a long long day.

Tonight he said he's not a titans fan it's the team he covers, it's his job.

Later tonight he seemed to get grumpy with Jason Wolf of Tennessean

I LOVE Kuharsky and think he's great. Some of you guys in TEN need to hunt him down and buy him a beer. If ever a reporter needed a vacation or nice night out....

No idea what happened with Giants DL coach.

He interviewed.
Reported as done deal

Reported like 'not so fast, didn't agree yet'

and now promoting Eason instead

I sure would have preferred the guy that coached Strahan, Tuck, Osi, Kiwi, and JPP

ETA Not Strahan, my mistake there

Sometimes, you can't love the one you want, you have to learn to love the one with you are with.
The interview process (and 8 million articles of a potential trade for the #2 pick) were a sham. None of that is on him, but after the fact to hear they wanted Mariota and then Mularkey all along...that doesn't come across well.

He rubs a lot of fans the wrong way when he flat out praises a player and then doesn't play them.

Most everyone (just lesser amount of frustration than I) wonders why they won't use the FB they drafted so highly and rave about. 9% of plays doesn't really count.

The TE usage, from the former TE coach, was too high and too much to choke down. It's easier to watch McBride struggle than to watch Supernaw headbutt someone.

Spoke of the run game and this commitment, but there wasn't any whatsoever. No RB had a 20 carry game. Most times Andrews had the most carries with like a dozen. (The FB would definitely be involved in showing commitment to the run game here too)

Spoke of needing linemen-Free agency seemed to pass by and they signed no one and then last minute oh let's sign the guy Oher replaced. Where was the genuine effort in the midst of free agency with linemen stopping by for visits and offered deals?

Needed a NT in a big way, two even, and (same free agent stuff would apply) they trade up to get Blackson and then claim he's more athletic than they hoped so they'll play him at End instead. What about the hole at NT? Since when is athleticism in a giant man a problem? They about made it one. DaQuan Jones improved each week and Blackson didn't even get a ton of time.

Widdled down to the simplest for the casual fan- Ya drafted 3 top level WRs and a prized QB and their targets are so far less than any other team. They wanna see Mariota chuck it to the WRs.

I'm not saying DGB was ready or Hunter reached his potential. Just the same who does that? The ol Lions at least threw to Williams and Rogers and...can't think of the other now.

The best thing he can do, the best non-Whisenhunt style thing he can do is be obvious and deliberate whenever possible. If he wants to drum up support by praising a player- boast about Casey or someone like that then.

You'll notice no one is offended or feelings hurt when he says the OL stinks. Fans 'get it' but they absolutely "have to" now address the OL in free agency and/or the draft. He's gotta see the benefits of carrying through with what he says and this allowing fans to jump on board. I don't even think it matters if he were to say Klug is gonna get 100 carries and we'll all be like "yeah for 100 yards total" as long as fans can jump on and enjoy the ride.

On twitter a few weeks back some fans were discussing the best moments for the Titans this past year. Blackson catching a TD (which was called back) was one of the top vote getters. That's surprise fans like. Mariota doing some trickery and taking off for a run would be too. Andrews pass to him.

This is Kordell Stewart's old offensive coordinator. He ought to have 10000 tricks up his sleeve. I just think somewhere along the lines he lost track of what to speak about and what not to and how to use deception. The Titans fooled very few opponents but yet their fans plenty.

He'll change a lot if he's deliberate and obvious with what he can be.

Lebeau somewhat happy to be back. Nice to read really
