I don't see him on the brief pre-draft visit list. I'll look for the full length one later. Interesting when that happens

I kept saying they made me fall in love with him before Murray trade, thought he was "out of the question" though

 
It's possible, probable, they had a lot of tape on Henry and some love for him when the scouts loved Fowler last year. For some scouts, they might have coveted him a long time now

Very much mixed feelings here.  I like Henry and would have loved this pick in a vacuum. But with Alexander available and Murray on the team, I can't get fully behind it. 

 
Bucky Brooks did say just before the Derrick Henry pick I think that he (Alexander) doesn't really fit LeBeau's style

Titans in pursuit

Byard said he worked out for Titans coach Mike Mularkey, general manager Jon Robinson and others on Thursday. The Titans had several scouts at Byard's pro day and, according to NFL.com's Gil Brandt, is one of the top teams in pursuit.

very fair criticism.

I'd like to hear reporters saying as such to RObinson to gauge his thoughts but lately they're being very patient and unusually understanding. Be nice to the new guy so you get the info? Fear of BB stuff? IDK what's going on but I hope they ask as such

The most obvious and intriguing team when it comes to Byard. The Titans do need a safety despite signing Rashad Johnson in free agency. Byard has worked out and talked with the Titans recently. His old high school teammate is a scouting assistant and the Titans are the closest NFL franchise. They also have the most flexibility with the amount of picks.

Too late. He won't make it.

Their former 1st and 2nd round WRs are stud athletes. Turzilli and later McBride worked their tails off. McBride has plenty of talent and should be a nice project. TZ is so fast for a tall WR and is a nice project too.

I don't know why they love Douglas but they even added former coaches that love him. Miami's WR doesn't drop the ball much and will be oh so welcome at times. 

They need a stud that could still stand out amidst their (flop) former high picks or a (another) veteran that could 'get it done' when others were unreliable. 

If he makes it, they give up on someone too early. I won't forget how highly Waldman spoke of McBride or how many had him as a 3rd rounder. They need patience then. If they keep Sharpe, they won't be patient. Probably 2017, they'll draft someone to replace Sharpe. 

They didn't do what I wanted and I think many fans wanted- trade Sankey or Hunter or...and open up some slots, to move forward. Mind you I do think Hunter can still pan out, but I can understand moving on too. 

Without some other move, where's Sharpe gonna play? 5th WR at best.

They even signed a KR in December Demaris Johnson, so they don't even really have a KR role available.

I guess  I'll hope he's like Diggs or Colston and a later round find but realistically it's bleak for him.

PLAYER OVERVIEW


The interior force of the Trojans defense, Woods finished with 41 tackles and was second on the team with 7.0 tackles for loss and three sacks in 2015. Appearing in 13 games, he earned 2015 All-PAC 12 first team honors due to his disruptive force and production on the field.



Woods' seven tackles for loss his senior season are more than his combined total between 2012-14 (6.5). He grew up in one of the toughest areas of Los Angeles (Baldwin Village) that is known as "The Jungle," and stayed close to home to attend USC, where he was redshirted in 2011 before emerging as a part-time starter the following season.


STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES

STRENGTHS: Stout, compact defensive tackle with great size for the NFL. Demands double teams and possesses violent hands. His initial contact at the point of attack is seldom met with much resistance, which allows him to be very disruptive in the backfield. Can dip-and-rip off the snap and shows very good pursuit of the football.



For his size, he'll impress with his hustle and knack for locating the football. A big clogger who can stack the point and fill running lanes. Displays good burst and quickness in short areas.

WEAKNESSES: Does not collapse the pocket and could be more consistent. Average range outside the box. Will wear down late in games and can be late off the ball. Does not have great chase speed or make many places outside the box. Can play with better leverage and can learn to be more creative as a pass rusher.

IN OUR VIEW: Woods is a good character kid with upside. Once he establishes a more consistent overall game, he should contribute nicely in the interior of an NFL defense.

 
On 1045 this week Greg Cosell did discuss Conklin and Byard.

Conklin he thought could be like Scherf. A T, probably a good T, but move him to G and he could be an all pro.

My initial reaction was I don't like that they drafted another G/T like Poutasi and that they traded up for him. I'm changing. I'm never going to like the trade and think it was too expensive to move up but there's some (almost) certainty he'll be a good player.

Cosell said something I've heard a lot the last few years. How tackles in spread offenses are such an uncertainty when they enter the NFL. I think this could lead to a lot of the G/T confusion

Byard is an outfielder with the body to play SS but doesn't have that in him just yet. He liked him.

Also, Delanie Walker was on and he DOES plan to run block more and get less (FF) catches. He spoke of them simplifying the assignments for linemen and how that should help. Thinks Mularkey is committed to run and saw a change right away. Now that he's got the O...likely to do more blocking. 

He mentioned how he (absolutely? certainly? definitely? forget word) expects a breakout from Kendall, DGB, and Hunter. That's exactly what I've been saying with Whis gone but it's nice to hear it from someone that's been studying the O. He mentioned any attention the run game or WRs get, he could maybe catch a LB off guard, make his job easier.

I haven't read a bad thing about Conklin besides he might not have quick enough feet to play LT. 

 
I've been going back n forth by email. Apparently I'm wrong and Sharpe is quite a player. If anything his presence means the Titans will try and trade one or two WRs.

I guess we'll see

A lot of radio talk today- posted in Henry thread. Discussed backs all day and didn't hear Cobb, Sankey, or McCluster's name mentioned. 

Andrews, McBride, and TZ got some love from Mularkey today

Just a ton of talk, check websites tonight tomorrow. Likely some real good articles. 

My favorite concept comes from Robinson to the coaches- Any unknown is to be pushed, get a chance, and a decision made. There's no reason for a team full of uncertainty or under-performers. Coaches embracing this too. 

To make a scenario up- suppose Cobb gets a zillion reps in practice one day or plays the whole second half of a preseason game. That's his pass or fail test. Pass you stay, fail you're cut. Not hmmm what could be, push him, see exactly what he can do and then make a decision.

From there-add another player? Move forward without him? Or onto the next player to test.

 
OTAs don't allow 11 on 11 and I don't think they allow contact.

However, I've been told Cobb is going to be the first to get tested. I looked online for something to confirm and Glennon does have an article stating something like "the Titans would like to get an extended look at Cobb."

FWIW "evaluate with an extended look" is the company line.

I have no idea why him first- could be trade value, he needed to improve pass blocking most. Maybe, if ya still can't block...see ya. i don't know.

Glennon's article suggest Andrews will be gone since he has a similar hard running style to Murray and Henry but without their talent level. True but Sankey was drafted for that reason and so was Cobb. They're all supposed to have that style. They've been drafting a type for a few years now.

I don't think you trade for a third RB, but if cut, I could see one of them winding up in SD with Whis.

Not a whole lot on Nick Richter that stands out. Long arms. Interesting he has played C and T.

TE Alex Ellis was a WR that beefed up for U of Ten as a walk-on. 6-4 and 216-240lbs which is a real big range for sites to disagree on.
