Titans 2025 (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Starting a new thread.
I tried doing it more by position for a couple years but everyone asks for a team thread- habits I get it- so....here's a 2025 thread

DC Denard Wilson and both secondary coaches were singled out today as doing a great job.
They have.
They've been absolute magicians.
The Titans were the top ranked D for roughly 13 weeks and the top pass D for 17 weeks. To do that with journeymen and UDFAs and backups to backups .... phenomenal job.

I don't see Chris Harris or Denard Wilson listed as potential head coaches.
Wilson needs more experience- ok, fair enough- today. It makes sense only today.

The second some often losing coach gets his fourth opportunity then I'm questioning how much owners value experience. Then it's a debate.
Young top "inexperienced" defensive mind vs longtime coach with losing record.

Harris- ooh I feel bad for him. He was a "HC in waiting" when he was added to Vrabel's staff and Wilson was all about keeping him on.
Now he's kind of dwarfed by the higher position guy again.
He needs to leave and be a DC somewhere because I have a hard time believing a position coach will become a head coach.

Word is Callahan is staying and will be forced to make some staff changes. Rappoport reported it then many also did.

As I've explained every year, the Titans have an especially professional process of year end review meetings with the ownership group.
All bosses go thru it. Then they are to do the same with their employees.
It is always with presentations in a professional setting and facts and stats and such.

Mularkey turned the team around. Vrabel was recently coach of the year. (Way more info could be added here) They both primarily were fired for uncomfortable arrogance, wanting more power, and refusing to fire a friend that was clearly not doing a good job as OC.

Callahan seems in a good spot and with the right vibe about him too. We can usually tell by year end pressers- example Vrabel acting all great after a losing year was a bit much.

The ST coach was not fired despite big public outcry and record setting bad performance by special teams. This could be a point of contention.
(One note is their other ST coach was inexperienced and yes he's a Callahan friend but their may not have been another comfortable option to replace him.)

I don't I don't I don't but yes fire your dad has a degree of reason to it.
They hired a supposed OL guru and the OL was atrocious for the third year in a row. Daddy Callahan failed. Fine, fair enough.

I very much think firing Bill is a topic but as a discussion point. The OL guru couldn't get it done with the players the GM gave him so this could bite the GM. They spent a ton of $ and have a roster of about 14 former tackles. Many playing other positions but it is weird and it does make ya question what's up.

TV people say the word is Brian will be told he needs a veteran advisor. Isn't that what his dad is? I've got an issue with that concept.

Again I do not think Bill is fired. I do think the absurdly bad stats bring up the OL discussion and it stirs the pot for many meetings. They're not gonna have stats on their struggles and ignore a zillion pressures and sacks.

The Titans have a GM triumvirate. A novel idea splitting responsibility two years ago.
Ran Carthon was promoted to team VP giving him more power and pretty much wrecking the shared method. Many debate this and...I admittedly come out of it more confused as to who does what in the trio. He is the face or voice of the GMs and personnel.

The Titans have been outstanding with later picks and UDFAs. There are issues with early picks. Some believe the early picks are debated by the trio predraft and personnel guys state their case for each player and that's the process. Well...it hasn't worked well. I'm stuck on the usual theory that Ran makes the call.

Ran turned over the roster twice. He had around 55 mil in dead cap twice. He had a spending spree of around 180 mil. He got his QB in Levis who failed. Ticket holders are quite unhappy. My opinion is this is like a list of reasons GMs get fired.
It does ignore some things he did well but that's how it usually goes.

But is it him or someone else in the triumvirate? That'll be the question and if so we'll again need a rundown of who does what in the trio.

The Titans have had bad tackle play, bad QB play, a weak WR corps that can't get separation, and TEs that can't do their full role well- for three years now.

They have 30ish free agents.
New stadium coming in 2027.
Offense still lacks an identity somewhat and is simply not Derrick Henry's team.
Nashville is not a big city but a common city everyone seems to love to go to.

Above is probably enviable to a new GM. That probably matters too if they discuss moving on from the GM. Oh so quickly and easily make it his own with little grumbling from a fan base.

Prior GM JRob is interviewing for jobs around the league and discussed in National media. This matters for perception.

He did a great job then got arrogant and did head bang against the wall moves that still don't make sense.

He was a leader. He did an exceptional job in the community and worked with hospitals and fund raisers and shined when the draft was there.

He built a stellar staff. A fair amount left the Titans to become GMs and director of personnel and other jobs. (Vrabel too) It's impressive when a guy develops a "tree" in a few years.

I don't know if this is the ownership's standard.
I don't know if it's fair to hold the current GM to it.
As long as the former coach and GM are mentioned on TV, ya gotta assume it's on the mind of ownership whereas a blind "we moved on" doesn't seem so reasonable at the moment.

Ridley well intentioned Q setting him up to say he's happy about moving to Nashville and all; accidentally says the coaches are finally starting to figure out how to use us

Oof

(Repeat from Rudolph thread for central topic/offseason)
Callahan told Aditi on the sideline (while losing) that he thought Rudolph would be a good bridge QB.
Couple days later he said everything will be evaluated.

He probably said his wishes there and realized the oops.
I think he's a fine backup.
They need 53. They need a long snapper and ST guys and....I think re-sign Mason. There's absolutely no air that he's a starter and there's also probably some value in that too

One of the most curious things (imo) in sports history was the Titans bad W-L record in 2023 and various teams hiring their staff for 2024. Often times an asap hire like ooh he's available? Get him!

Most are expected to no longer be with their new teams.

This would be the perfect setup for anyone wanting to write an article on retreads or job stability in the NFL.

(This may matter for teams hiring Vrabel too. Owners/GMs will see his former staff members available and ask Qs about potential staff members.)

These guys don't have to be out of work or wished ill will but how about when someone flops as a positional coach, the new team hires him as an assistant position coach? A step down to relearn and retool.

Pollard has been a trooper- playing banged up for weeks despite no practice.
He's listed as limited participation which is actually a plus for him, yet coach is saying how if he can't go then the depth backs will carry the load with Chestnut getting the start.

Monti was with the Titans before becoming the Cardinals GM. He worked under Jon Robinson.
A lot of personnel people have been replaced since then.
Kyler Murray to Titans was not a rumor. Someone on X said he should be available and they should get a top pick QB to match with McBride and Junior. Absolutely nothing from Cardinals whatsoever.

I don't even know that Monti has any familiarity in TEN anymore and I don't think it would even be allowed to discuss Murray before the season is over.

There's going to be a zillion rumors due to the high draft pick. That's what we do in chats but...nothing usually happens til draft day or very close to draft day.

We gotta be aware this stuff is going to happen

I still think we should get Darnold as a bridge assuming he's not resigned in MN. Draft a WR in rd1 or maybe trade it if we can get a nice haul.

What do you think that would cost?
Initially it was said a top pick and that he's better than anyone in this draft.
That's a typical first day rumor reaction. Let's wait and see.

Tennessee Vols fans have wanted Hooker to be a Titan for three years now and it's so common that Titans writers are sick of answering Qs about it.

That's maybe another option. Both have knee issues but he's recovered.

I don't think anything of signing Teddy and the plan to sub Teddy in if Goff gets hurt. Who wants a rookie(ish) QB coming in all raw in the playoffs? Some have spun this as a negative towards Hooker though.

I very much think "get your guy" here. If they could add a QB and still have a top pick that would be great

Many injured Titans in the locker room today. Many tomorrow probably. Many will be on the sideline.

Keep an eye out. Someone missing is often a sign of things to come.

Last game is usually the gangs all here

Levis will start. Coach praised him for how he dealt with issues this season.
Wright is kicking
Pollard is GTD
Boyd is out. Gotta wonder if his career is over then.
Bryce Oliver not on injury report

Social media discussion-
Season ticket holders were sent a Delanie Walker bobblehead and a sweatsuit. The label on the bottom of the shirt was commonly sewn upside down but not on all.

I'm not sure who oversees this.
GM triumvirate does not. They're all football.
"Moustache" used to do I assume his replacement at team president does. Still who is the marketing sort of fan appreciation person? That would be more my guess- IF someone were to be fired for shabby gifts.

I do agree the intent was nice but that lost steam once the packages were opened.

Poor Delanie. Guy just does what he can on podcasts and was a volunteer type coach in the summer (for another team) and ...oof.

Two of triumvirate and responsibilities in prior press release-
General Manager Ran Carthon has been promoted to executive vice president and his role has expanded to include full control of roster and personnel decisions, oversight of Callahan and the coaching staff, and all other aspects of the team’s football operations.

The Titans also announced that Chad Brinker has been promoted from assistant G.M. to president of football operations. The team says his role will include “direct oversight of the football departments that address salary cap management; analytics and strategy; communications and information systems; and team operations including security, video, equipment, and grounds.”

Last game of the season, backups, nothing too too much on the line.
The owner-who grew up in Houston- has a soft spot for the Texans game and especially when they wear baby blue. Coaches have been fired and players cut. It's the lone time she could ever do anything Jerry like. She's an excellent owner that is largely hands off. This just means something extra to her.

Also this is the game before the year end review meetings.

Losing and top pick versus keeping your job is an interesting debate.

I do know that one year she didn't take someone's calls- i think Mularkey- all week leading up to it. She wasn't going to let him ask for an out or even have that conversation. I remember her explanation afterwards as one of the most interesting by an owner ever- she went on about it for five minutes or so and I won't do it justice here. Suffice to say her view is she paid them to do a job and she was told this n that while building the team. I'm not looking to next year's product while I paid for this year's. Had a thing about the team using the "no days off" quote and ...we were all reminded how sharp she is and let in on her perspective a bit.

I know this much- if I were on the team she is going to see me "die trying" as I have an unannounced unspoken contest with my teammates as to who can give the most effort. There's no way I'm "taking it easy" and making my spot on the team debatable during the off-season.

I am shocked that Jay Glazer has Arthur Smith as the second ranked assistant on his list of coaching candidates.
I thought he's gotta earn some stripes back for a couple years in Pittsburgh.
Very interesting.

Also, although reports that Callahan was safe, this weekend has been "maybe he's not."

Arthur is the only one that could replace Callahan with minimal blow-up. His love for Pees and already a fan of Harris, I wouldn't be surprised if he knows and likes Denard Wilson.

I don't think he goes to TEN but I think it matters-
A negative for Callahan with a new option available.
JRob will look more appealing to new teams with both Arthur and Vrabel on top hire lists.

I don't see it but I think it's interesting.
I still think he stays in Pittsburgh and what a rollercoaster two years for him.

Levis said how he was mentally prepared for more and if more were put on his plate he could have done more
Zing to coaches

Everywhere just about everyone in the media has changed from everyone(staff and GM) is back to we'll see what happens

I think the Titans are relatively easy to take over.
The pieces they do have any coach would like. The well known young guys just speed up the rebuild.
Thirtyish free agents and possibly the option to pick your own coach.
It's like just add a GM and some water and stir.

Blow it up! There's thirty free agents
Worst team in football allows all sorts of latitude to replace anyone

The question is can ya win in Tennessee. The flexibility is enormous right now

I still think Callahan is a very good offensive mind. He just needs the pieces. Levis isn't the dude.

Super excited to finally have a #1 pick, but really need to nail it.

I feel like we NEED a Quarterback. At the end of the day, you have to hit at QB to compete. I haven't felt like the team has a truly GREAT QB since McNair. We do an amazing job whiffing. Marriotta at 2, Vince Young at 3, Jake Locker at 8. I don't want to force a pick and have yet another wasted draft pick. But you're rarely in the situation to have your choice of QB prospect. IF the front office believes in a guy, they'll feel like they have to.

Hunter seems like the clear Diamond in the class. You get an elite playmaker or outstanding CB for the next 10 years.

Maybe you entertain trading back depending on the haul. If you can pull off what Chicago did, that would be amazing. I just doubt we get that haul. Is anyone that excited for a player in this class?

Spears’ 2025 Outlook?
No idea how a (if) a new GM will view him.
He's gonna get the injury label and carrying that no ACL stigma after the draft...there's gonna be a negative vibe attached. He'll still have the cartoon like turbo boost and good hands but I think we'll be debating his health track record

I saw Callahan in today's presser as being again like a guy well prepared for a tough meeting, accountable, and open for changes.

A reporter asked and he said there were times he was a bit overwhelmed and could have used someone else calling plays so he'd be open to that.

He still has some shine on him so I don't think a new GM/if would necessarily want to change the coach. Burrow's OC and friend still has some weight especially with a potential QB drafted one overall. Levis and 2024 stung him so I'm not certain but today I think he's still going to stay.

Ran seems gone to me.
As I said earlier, everything is setup for it from bad pick top QB, huge spending, huge roster turnover ((120%) to worse record each year even with his staff and his personnel and the worst record in football.
GMs don't survive that.
Titans fans get well attached to GMs so there's still some wanting him to stay and making excuses but that would have been my laundry list of why a GM gets fired and he checked every box.
Today a radio host, a former Titan GM, and other former GMs, and several writers say they hear he's gone.
That's a lot.
Do we ever hear that and it's untrue?

So I'd say Ran has to wow them in his year end review to make this the first time all that is untrue.
He's clearly a good dude a knowledgeable guy and a likable guy. That doesn't matter at this moment. It'll just be another reason we wish him well

Here's an example of Callahan's accountability and openness and all.

Also, you catch in there that the Titans should have listened to my obvious suggestion🙃 I mean they have setup Levis to do what Willis' offseason plan was AND the very things that he finds faults with in Levis could have been worked out by QB gurus (he doesn't say but- if he had done the Willis plan).

This is good for Levis but also a big relief for me and Titans fans too. They believe they've finally settled on a method to develop a QB if not the actual QB.

Edit-
Sorry acting like y'all in my head-
Willis worked out with 3-5 QB gurus each and every off-season and watched tape with them and contacted a few retired and current QBs to discuss things with.
Each summer he was surprisingly significantly better than the previous.

Yes every team should do this and it shouldn't be so unordinary. Egos and pride of players and coaches maybe in the way. Idk why it's not more common because it is ultra simple.
Anthony Richardson, for example, gimme one reason why he wouldn't benefit from some chats with Steve Young or workouts with a QB gurus? Ahh but maybe some Colts coach wants to be the only one to....idk idk.

Maybe it's teams won't admit that some of these guys are raw? If Jon Gruden fixes Richardson's feet or Levis' reads or Trask's pocket movement then I think teams should shush and enjoy the benefits. But nope, pride comes in and....I guess this is just a Titans thing for now

DMR had 25 and 45 blocking ratings per PFF so blocking well in the summer didn't mesh late in the year when he got a little opportunity.

-DT McTelvin Agim

-DT Abdullah Anderson

-LB Curtis Bolton

-T Chandler Brewer

-DT Isaiah Iton

-DB Gabe Jeudy-Lally

-LB Kyron Johnson

-WR Stanley Morgan

-TE Thomas Odukoya

-DB Gervarrius Owens

-T Isaiah Prince

-RB Jabari Small

Futures contract players above- off-season practice squad.
A step down for Odukoya who was active most of the year and at his age, he sadly should consider playing somewhere else. All he does is block great and not play.

Gabe Jeudy Lilly won't make it to camp. He is a good looking no name CB that was off and on this roster with a very good CB room. Two recent cuts already signed elsewhere and he was above them.

Not sure why Stanley Morgan agreed to stay. They needed WR help and ST help and he was familiar with Callahan as a Bengals depth player and then didn't play.

Matthew Wright...no idea why they wouldn't extend him and offer or if he turned it down. Folk is old and they need camp legs.

Tay Martin was singled out by coach for making a play late in week 18 and how he continually did that in practice. He had a knack for body control during poor throws or somesuch quote. OK State website says he's a free agent now.

I don't care too much about these depth guys but I have long said the team does and these types send messages. Why not go into camp with top practice players from 2024 when you have 90 spots? Anywho...again, way down list of things to be concerned with

I understand the "lets fire our HC because we had a losing season" mentality but after one year...just seems silly to me.

I still like Pollard.

Sooo the pecking order is-
Nihill- team pres non football stuff, financials, tickets, food. Ignore this ignore this ignore this.
Brinker- who was hired by Ran as part of the triumvirate plan and was called President of football operations is now the interim GM.

Ran who is out as GM and had title of VP of football operations is fired. His replacement may be more of an assistant GM or may be more like a GM. They will interview and decide.
Team ownership (essentially Adams family) will meet and announce a new plan.
To reiterate- yes it's a bit messy now but part of the plan is to hire a leader to straighten this out and straightening it out themselves and putting someone in a role isn't wise.

Brinker meeting is this afternoon. He will have his own presentation why he should be what the other 31 call a GM.
It's unclear when Callahan's meeting is.
Reiterate- the ownership will meet w Brinker, meet themselves, listen to new GMs plan

This leaves open new GM could be-
And assistant GM role
A BIG role and fire Brinker and Callahan

Firing Callahan concept-
Not likely. The ownership is unhappy but likes his plan and it suits them very well. Well regarded OL coach, top young DC, highly paid secondary coach as future DC or HC, and theoretically a QB development HC that's worked with famous QBs.
It can be viewed as new GM doesn't get to pick his HC. It can also be viewed as "do you think you can hire a better OL coach, DC, and offensive mind QB developer?"
The last two or three GMs have stuck with the coach one year then fired them. Callahan is especially different with a humble realistic accountable coach's son personality. That's not Mularkey or Vrabel like at all

Another wrinkle-
The ownership has long wanted a system of developing and promoting within. That's what sold them on the triumvirate.
Suppose Brinker is GM and doesn't work out. The guy hired could replace him from within.
Suppose Callahan doesn't work out. Wilson could be HC and Harris DC and current OC would simply call plays.

Jon Robinson built one of the best personnel departments ever. There have been seven promoted outside the organization with most notable being Monti to Arizona GM but there's also been a player personnel director, head of scouting, and VP and...great job by him.

As he interviews for GM roles teams want to know if he can do it again and surely a concern is all his personnel buddies already have jobs.
Titans angle is (same as every team) how can we stack our personnel department so that we can continue with this promote from within develop from within formula.

They do feel Ran stacked the personnel dept some and John Lynch and Monti have both said Ran hired very well.

Long but almost done-
So new GM, big presence or assistant GM role? What's he think of the organization's personnel dept and how can he replace whoever needs replacing in the personnel dept- because there's a bunch of well regarded guys. IE they didn't hire a few from 49ers, Cardinals/brought back, Colts, and Lions to have their personnel dept thought of in pretty high regard only to have it blown up by a new guy. They're closer to having a stacked dept again and want that.

I predict an older guy. Jerry Reese (again) has interviewed twice. Nagy was mentioned a few times over the years. Pick another older guy, that would be fine too
No idea who is acting GM if he is hired.
Older guy has the contacts to finish building the stacked personnel dept.

Why- promoting from within and a system of that is the goal.
In that scenario, everyone would move up a spot and continuity would be big and team unity/organization all in same page and...this is their goal.
It'll never happen! They did it with JRob and if they promoted Monti they would have.
They're close again.

Do not like it when the GM is out but the coach stays. Seems like a recipe for disaster.
Only on a good team.

No one would say they expect the worst team in football to win the Supe next year and it's a very different perspective.

They have a lot of young players and a new GM is sure to replace n add more.
There's 30 free agents so the day the new league year kicks in they'll probably be the youngest team and with the most spots to fill.
Most of the FAs are cheap veterans so very smooth if a new GM wants them or doesn't.

Firing HC means replacing staff-
Denard Wilson had the top D for 12 weeks and top pass D for 17 weeks with many backups journeymen and PS players. That's as good a coaching job as there is.
Chris Harris is a few years removed from being a HC candidate and well regarded.
Many OLs stink in the current NFL and Daddy Callahan is on board now.

Next year can bring clarity and a years more development for Latham and Skoronski under Daddy Callahan.
Maybe they want to promote Denard next year.
Maybe they want Arthur next year.
Maybe Callahan needed a year and is much better.

A new GM probably wants a QB guru and someone that was part of a high powered young offense. There couldn't be less issues with the Bengals offense or youth.

The Titans have the worst WR corps in football, TEs that are athletes that can't block, and tackles that haven't performed well. No coach will be successful with that.

They won't solve all organization issues in one off-season. Do what they can and do more next year.

On radio, three stations- same sentiment- wait for ownership to say how they want to proceed. Building a promote from within environment is paramount for them

People are jumping to Brinker is the GM and ignoring 2 of triumvirate and calling the Titans rudderless or leaderless.

This is (to some degree) what the ownership wants...in this ugly moment. Hard to word. Not that. They will view this as an opportunity. The opportunity for the world to relearn of their triumvirate structure and show they are well setup.

Many are saying similar to what I said. Vrabel and JRob look darn good now after time off. I don't think anyone in NFL circles thinks the Titans were wrong to let em go. A GM making dopey trades and letting good players walk...a coach wanting but groceries player control after losing more n more...the Titans weren't wrong.
Some fans and writers have them looking that way now, pretending things didn't happen, and there's nothing that can be done there other than ask them to trade AJB for Burks in fantasy 😉

We're still waiting for Ran's replacement and that will put things in place.

Despite how Brinker's statement of what HE is looking for in a GM was presented by many, he is not the deciding voice. Ownership is. The two remaining if the triumvirate will have a say- one is he.

Some of this is wonderfully written as usual by Orr but he gets off track w Vrabel some and he doesn't mention Brinker.
Orr is great.

Don't get need wrong. This is the kind of stuff the Titans ownership would probably lllllove to explain to the world. "No no, this is how we're structured"

Titans Pres Nihill- via Pellisero

@TomPelissero
#Titans President and CEO Burke Nihill said results, and a different dynamic in the building, contributed to the decision to fire GM Ran Carthon. President of Football Operations Chad Brinker, who is leading the search, will work together with coach Brian Callahan and the new GM and "break ties" on the 53-man roster, per Nihill.

"We just haven't improved this football team for the last couple of years," Nihill said. "We've won nine of the 34 games we've played over the past two seasons, and as much as the record was concerning to Amy as it was to all of our fans, her assessment was also that we're not on course to get where we need to go moving forward. As difficult as these decisions are, she believed it was the right one.

"Speaking of a change of the general manager specifically, Ran was hired into a very different job description than the one that exists today. Ran was hired for a general manager position that was very specific to the circumstances at the time, and the forecasting was the general manager would be able to partner very closely with the head coach, the existing head coach, and as the circumstances exists today, the general manager position is different. And so, what Chad, who is leading the search, will be looking for is a very different skill set for a very different job description."

Wonderful writer Mike Reiss was talking about the Pats and he (way more eloquently) explained that there is the viewpoint of the fans, the viewpoint of the team, and the viewpoint of the organization and ownership. Any time that these are not all the same, change becomes a likely possibility.

Per usual that's pretty succinct and a great way to put it.

Pat Kirwan was talking of Aaron Glenn's experience and how he was with Parcells and...rattled it all off. He came back to that there are a few organizations right now that would love to have a guy like Parcells and he thinks Glenn is the most attractive of available coaches. He said, the Titans do not want a Parcells. They believe they have the setup and he'd be a bull in a china shop there. They need a guy to fit in and grow WITH the organization not take it over. The Jets....they need Glenn to take over. Very different types.

Per PK
#Titans have fired four:

Vice president of team operations Brent Akers
Vice president of football technology Anthony Pastrana
Assistant general manager Anthony Robinson
Senior director of security John Albertson

The year end review meetings....we have no idea what transpired.
Some were with the team since 97 98.
Robinson could have been upset and followed Ran OR he could have been responsible for info that led to bad moves or anything

Titans asked to interview this woman

I don't know why Browns fans say good riddance and negatives. I see favorable Eagles fans. Definitely polar opposites.
I don't care what her sex is but if y'all do, so be it.

There's probably a dozen posts by me that NFL should have a minor league system and teams should have someone that knows the XFL UFL and CFL etc.

It's unclear what position she'll interview for. I am intrigued by the request even not knowing anything about her.

I've told y'all a few times how they want to create a model system and promote from within and how years ago they presented it at a league meeting and....this type stuff is that.

A lot of talk today how Chad Brinker is the new GM.
That is not what the Titans said nor what he said himself.

That he now has roster control.
Again absolutely no one has said this.

They are hiring a GM and asst GM and three others from above list.

I don't know how these people will dig out of saying this.

I listened to Ian and Schefty and NFLradio and... everything all day has been "they need to hire a GM first til we talk about the top pick" etc.

From Titans website:

Brinker spelled out what he'll be looking for in a new GM.

"I think the general manager position is unique to their respective organizations," Brinker said. "This particular job, what we'll be looking for is someone who has spent their career as a scout, is a top-flight, top-level evaluator who has spent the majority of their career projecting college players to the National Football League, they've had a major hand in setting the draft board in preferably a consistent, winning organization, and you can see their fingerprints all over the roster.

"It is someone who wakes up every single day and the only thing they think about is building a roster, evaluating players, watching tape, working with the coaching staff. And, not just someone who knows how to collect talent, but someone who really understands how to build a team and how all the pieces fit together that I can work with not only in the short term, winning today, but building for the future, the long term, and understanding how all those pieces fit together. If you make a decision here, how it impacts a decision down the road, and really understand the full puzzle.

"At the end of the day, this person is going to be all ball, all day. They are going to focus on the roster and the coaching staff, and I'll continue in my role with handling all the other areas that surround the center of our program, scouting and coaches. So, I will support that person. But we are looking for a general manager who wakes up every day and is focused on building the team."

Ultimately, Brinker, Callahan and the new general manager will work together to make decisions.

Nihill said Brinker will "break ties" with respect to the 53-man roster.

"It is important to Amy to have absolute clarity in the football organization." Nihill said. "And so, while the general manager position will have a primary responsibility on all these things Chad is describing in terms of the day-to-day of overseeing the roster and the coaching staff, Chad is the leader of the football program, so Chad will be the final authority on all football matters, including the roster."

Brinker reiterated the group will work in unison.

Brinker said the team will be "aggressive" in finding the next GM. He'll look at a diverse pool of candidates, he said, from people he's worked with in the past to those he hasn't. He's open to former general managers who've had success in the league, to those he considers rising stars in the league.

"The person that we're going to be looking for is going to fit within the philosophy and how we're going to build this program going forward," Brinker said. "I look at this partnership as one heartbeat. We're going to be working together on all things. At the end of the day, we're all going to work together collectively, and work through: What is the best decision for the Tennessee Titans? So, if there is a situation, I want healthy debate so we can make the best decision we can make. All egos aside, it's about what is best for the team.

"I'm going to allow our (new) general manager to do his job, and set free agency strategy and draft strategy, build a roster, and I'll be right there with him."

Snipped it some.
Lots of teams, if not all, have a VP and Pres. They've always had ultimate authority but rarely, if ever, used it to make calls on player moves.

All the Titans did here is spell out one of the triumvirates.
Brinker has the deciding vote but the new GM and Callahan should try to agree and not need him to exercise it.

The Titans have had Nihill since the glorious moustache man. As president's they run organizational issues and make dry press releases and ...never ever made a player decision.

Callahan has a meeting Friday that was rescheduled to Saturday then cancelled and now Friday.

Sharing vagueness in hopes it makes sense then

The Titans gem of a play by play guy, Mike Keith, is leaving to call Vols games.
This has been rumored for months.

He's adored and it's like an extra whammy during all this negativity of a bad season.

He can spin anything positive and hosts the show with Coach Callahan. We'll have to see how that changes
