Titans & Bucs Game (1 Viewer)

Looks like Collins got benched pretty quickly after throwing 2 picks. Young put up some nice stats with some big throws but I haven't seen the game yet.

Anyone see this?

I missed Young's first 8 or 9 attempts, but he has looked good. Good decisions, and nice legs the time he ran, and the big arm allowed him to roll out left and throw back right to a wide open receiver for the TD.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the Bucs. In the last few years, they had a tough time with a team that would line up and punch them in the mouth. That didn't happen tonight.

I think Lefty is the guy now. McCown just can't stand in the pocket and throw the ball. Leftwich can. Although the chances of him getting hurt at some point are 110%.

Watching the game on local Bucs coverage, and VY has been a mixed bag. Yes, Collins looked poor. The second INT, the DE (Stylez G. White) made a great play to get his hands on the ball, knock it up in the air, and catch it. The first INT was a bad throw to nate Washington, who was double covered. Underthrown, picked in the end zone.

VY has made a few nice plays, two of them 35+ yard completions to Britt. Britt, BTW, come in the game in the first quarter when Collins was at QB on 3 WR sets, and was targeted (successfully) on a third and 3. In fact, all 4 of his catches to this point have been for first downs.

VY dropped a snap, had another bounced to him...so there is some kind of issue there. The one that bounced to him he tried to pick up. He ended up pitching it from his knees towards LenDale...who watched it sail over his head and then kicked it out of bounds.

VY moved up in the pocket to avoid a rush, looked awkwardly caught up between tucking and running or passing. He ended up floating it well out of bounds (attempting to hit Britt).

Some good throws, an awkward moment or two. Hard to read VY here.

Stroughter looked quick returning kicks. Looked quick and fluid playing WR too. But hard to judge him, as the only action he had at WR was with Freeman/Johnson and a slew of reserves. No drops, looked quick.

Ringer's TD run was sloppy D, IMO. That whole unit looked lost in the thrid quarter. All reserves, obviously, and they got beaten up on the line by TEN. Britt big play TD, Ringer big play TD as much to do with Tampa being ineffective. That being said, Ringer has wheels. Once he broke free, he was gone.

People seem to forget that Kerry Collins has a long NFL history of being a below average QB. Last year was such a unique situation for him. It's SO rare in the NFL for a QB to be able to thrive as a placeholder, yet Collins really was in the position to simply keep the engine going. His job was to not lose games. This year, with the Titans defense (IMHO) likely to take a step back, I fear Collins is going to HAVE to throw the ball more frequently, and they'll be situations where they need him to come up with big throws. And that's when we'll see the career 56% passer with a 1:1 TD/INT ratio rear his ugly head.

Best thing I can say about Britt: When TEN went to 3 WR sets in the first quarter, he was on the field and being thrown to. And, his two short catches (3, 4 yards) were both key 3rd down conversions to keep drives going.

Has Britt looked as good as his stats indicate?
Rotoworld's synopsis was: Britt, who missed almost all of OTAs and the Hall of Fame game with a hamstring strain, may have aggravated the injury. But the kid can play. Britt churned out four first-down catches and hooked up with Vince Young for gains of 38 and 37 yards, the latter going for a TD.

Collins below average history is still well above Vince Young's ability on his best day. I'll take Kerry Collins and his 1:1 ratio over Young's putrid TD-INT ratio everyday of the week. There is no comparison between the two. Young is a disaster.

we'll see. I think Wood nailed it. :goodposting: If you need a QB to not lose, Collins is your man. If you need a QB to make a brilliant play every so often and win some games he isn't.If you need a QB to not lose, VY is not your man. If you need a QB to make a brilliant play every so often and win some games he could be if he got his head back on straight.I'm obviously biased, but I'm pulling for VY. I do believe however, that the Titans 2011 starting QB is not on their current roster.

Who said anything about Young being better? :( My projections assume Collins is the starter for all 16 games. I just think he's going to disappoint Titans fans who somehow confused last year with "good QB play." It was a unique situation nearly guaranteed not to be replicated this year.

He looked very good...His TD wasnt impressive, a Titan cheerleader could of caught that TD pass, Nicholson did not cover the deep ball he moved in to cover a crossing pattern which left Brit open by about 20 yards. But I was impressed, Brit was flat out SMACKED in the mouth on his previous long ball, he knew it was coming too... caught the ball and held onto it. He paid for it but it was a great catch.Just by this game I think he could be a very good WR. dynasty leagues should be buzzing... this guy is a keeper.

Observations:

I don't think Graham will force a RBBC, and this game didn't change my mind. Ward is quite a bit better.

McCown definitely looked jittery, but the Titans were also in the backfield quite a bit. Lefty had better protection, but his first pass probably should have been picked. He threw a nice pass for the TD, then threw to a covered Stovall. I still doubt he can start for any length of time. The guy is an absolute statue. It seems the book on the Tampa QBs will be to bring the house, because McCown hears footsteps, and Lefty can't avoid the rush. That actually might mean a lot of catches for Winslow.

No Bryant or Clayton, and their backups weren't doing Lefty or McCown any favors.

Titans D-Line looked fine to me.

Sabby P. had a nice first half. Made a nice play for the pick, and nice plays in run support.

That Clifton Smith is a slippery little dude. Might be wirth 3-5 touches a game.

Gaines Adams is looking quick off the snap. Still just goes flying upfield, so I don't know how many plays he'll make in the run game.

Young had a nice pass to Britt deep. Britt looked fast, beat #27. Can't even find that guy on nfl.com. Torrie Cox.

Vince looked better in this game, for sure. But the C, Fernando Velasco, screwed him on two shotgun snaps.

Jared Cook looked good. But with Sciafe and Alge, you can't expect much this year. Anyone know Sciafe's contract situation?
