Titans offseason 2015 (1 Viewer)

yeah my mistake there. I posted just Gates then figured Antonio would confuse people and...botched that up totally

Any consensus on RBs for this team next year (or if it even matters with Whizz's system)?

Sankey didn't exactly impress, Greene is thoroughly mediocre, McCluster and Washington -- just no. Then there's Andrews and Seastrunk who may have talent... Does the team give them a shot?

Leon and Jackie Battle are FAs. Leon I expect earned another year as a veteran back but there's not supposed to be a need for him.

The interesting thing is he does everything McCluster was brought in to do....and didn't do.

If you think of Greene as a veteran backup, he's fine. It's when you think starter and workhorse that things get ugly.

Battle I rrrreally like and totally expect him to be elsewhere as he was barely used as the season wore on. I heard someone throwing things around and the notion of Munchak telling the Steelers to bring him in sounds very reasonable. Hard nosed excellent blocking FB is a position not all teams seem to appreciate anymore, but the Steelers would. He's reasonably cheap and...makes a lot of sense.

All in all, the Titans have their role players. They need their franchise back.

Whisenhunt still seems very high on Sankey which is somewhat hard to believe based on how little he played him.

Ryan Matthews is a free agent and was "his back" recently.

The Titans have some $. They have dead contracts and such which I've found hard to keep track of with Whisenhunt's house-cleaning. Most of their good young players are on these new lower rookie deals and unlike most teams they have almost nothing tied up in QB salaries.

I predict a Matthews signing and am worried of them overpaying him.

I'd prefer they sign no one, don't re-sign Leon, and ...I think if push comes to shove one of Andrews, McCluster, or Sankey will step up. If they commit to it, I think it'll work out.

I appreciate Leon's career, just think it's time to move on

This organization is going down more every year
Yeah. I know nothing of Kenneth Adams IV but what I googled tonight and the sentence or two in that article but...even so I'm all for him being a bigger voice.

Let's see if he fires his brother in law

Local radio sure make it sound like there's a big divide between the two. I'm not sure who's to blame for the collapse of the team over the last 10 years, but there's nothing to indicate it's going to change. The owners are completely out of touch with the fans and give the impression they don't care what anyone else thinks. It's sad

same article, Russ Lande seems high on this 3-4 OLB

"He's a little more power and athleticism now than he is a polished player. But the upside is incredible with him. It's just not there quite yet."

Hau'oli Kikaha

At first, maybe a year ago? 9 months? When Whisenhunt was discussing RBs, it made me think you want a NYG RB but what you've got is a NYJ RB.

I'm not wholly sure how to put that into words to clarify what I mean there, but toughness, hard-nosed...anyway, I was chatting last night about this and today I'm looking at a NYG MB and....yeah this guy-

late round pick, tough runner...http://www.bigblueview.com/2015/1/22/7866483/2015-nfl-draft-prospect-profile-david-johnson-rb-northern-iowa

this is who I'd guess Whisenhunt wants.

ETA if you're about to say Antonio Andrews, yeah I think that'd be fine with the Titans. Have a collection of young backs and though Sankey will get first crack at it, see whomever steps up from the competition.

Great move if the Titans can pull it off.
Maybe, probably...I have this gigantic respect for the guy. Even the worst defenses he's ever had were one's I'd be totally fine with in TEN.

When he was a head coach in Cincy two things were interesting and I'm thinking about now. He benched anyone if they made a mistake, dopey play etc. I love that. It looked odd. It seemed like they played 6 RBs and 8 LBs and 8 DBs and...I mean it really felt like everyone played. In time though, people wrote about the coaching and that the guys are still making mistakes late in the season. The other...his D wasn't that great without his Steelers guys. In fact, Marvin Lewis' D wasn't either after him.

Titans have a misplaced defense with the switch from 4-3 to 3-4 and even showed at times some good plays when they lined up 4-3.

They still manage players as if what they want is Jim Schwartz.

Munchak and Matthews....I don't like that neither is part of the team. Munchak had to go, I get it it but why Matthews? The OL stunk and I want an OL coach change. I want them to leave the door open for any HOFer to come by and I don't want a distinction between team HOF and pro football HOF. MANY teams allow these types to come back and they hang around practice in the summer and...you give it time, eventually the current players pick their brains. Get Eddie George to visit. I flat out don't care what he tells Sankey, I'll assume it's good. It's also the only way I think they have a snowball's chance in attracting free agents.

Got off track...what I think they truly want is some Steelers personnel guys. Their DBs were terrible and I want a DB coaching change as a result, but otherwise I applaud Horton for trying 10,000 different looks and moving guys around and....he was outmanned and you could tell this coach was trying all he could. 6 DL one play, 8 DBs the next...I'm totally fine with a coach that tries stuff like that.

Schwartz was a very good DC who got his chance at head coaching because of it. His replacements have inherited that D. That's all expected, but theoretically they don't want 4-3 guys they want 3-4 guys. There's gotta be a change in personnel.

I'm all for seasoned veteran coach and love his history and mindset....if he is signed soon, I want LeBeau watching college film and telling them what looks like a Steelers player.

I will point out that aside from the director or vp of player personnel, it's not usually common public knowledge when scouts and personnel folks switch teams, lose jobs, but if they're going to go with a Steelers D then let's sign some Steelers scouts. They don't make much money so it can't be hard to entice them with all the money the Adams family has

Loggains signed with Chicago and Cutler is excited to work with him.

I don't know why he keeps getting jobs.

Locker, Johnny Football, now Cutler...which QB has he helped improve?

Lebeau article http://www.musiccitymiracles.com/2015/1/24/7882317/the-pros-and-cons-of-****-lebeau-to-the-tennessee-titans

Points out rooks don't play under Lebeau and that he'll probably be insisting on playmakers being added..

If they keep cleaning house, he won't have a choice on the former but the latter...it would be a nice feeling to know someone is insisting they draft playmakers on D

Titans assistant WR coach now is going to coach Jets QBs.

Interesting because if he has that ability why wasn't he working with Mett and Jake? Jets have issues at QB so this hiring was fairly important and....might be no big deal, might be a good coach was underutilized in TEN. Time will tell

He made Locker much better. Locker just couldn't stay healthy. Johnny football is lazy and he only played a couple games. He also made Hoyer a much better qb. He's got a pretty good name around the league working with qbs as well. I'm happy the Bears got him. I'm not sure anyone can help Cutler at this point, though.

As assistant head coach, I wonder if that's not Whisenhunt not doing well that brought that on.

I haven't seen that he signed. Just more articles and tweets that he is going to. At this point, I'm starting to think the long delay could be a bad sign. It certainly makes me wonder what he holdup is

Lebeau is official and he's in charge of the D which is theoretically a step down for Horton.

http://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/nfl/titans/2015/02/04/tennessee-titans-land-national-treasure-****-lebeau/22886221/

I don't like any step down for the one coach that I could tell tried as hard as he could and got very creative. BUT since supposedly he is glad to have Lebeau around, I'm not going to throw rocks at adding a famous DC. By all accounts, this is the one add that doesn't hurt Horton's pride but instead excites him.

I think we'll find this either temporary or Lebeau moving to HC.

Players- They need to sit down with Pollard. I'm hopeful Lebeau's reputation just gave them the ability to keep some like him happy and the ability to sign some key free agents.

Lebeau definitely needs to teach Horton how to better transition from 4-3 to 3-4 and how to better utilize 4-3 players while you have them.

I imagine Michael Griffin is the happiest man on earth today with the HOF safeties Lebeau has coached.

does Avery Williamson have a place in the defense?

Sure, I think Avery did well as a rookie LB and maybe most importantly he fits the scheme.

So Horton is being demoted? This makes no sense
His title doesn't change. He's DC but Lebeau is in charge of the D as assistant head coach.

Seems like mentor student refresher course.

They coached 18 years together.

Also the way the Titans CBs have played....adding a great DC that was a HOF CB himself seems pretty perfect

Michael Oher released....should have happened in last year's camp.

Now re-sign Roos please

Jason Tucker was named WR coach but I didn't see Shawn Jefferson fired.

Mularkey got the added title of assistant head coach but he's still in charge of TEs.

This makes two "new" assistant head coaches and some pressure on Whisenhunt so...I'll take it.

Also, more Steeler coaches, I'm curious about Steeler free agents and trades with the Steelers now.

Just an FYI Jefferson's son is one of the top HS recruits. 8th to 11th ranked WR depending which site. Maybe he's going to go coach his boy in college?

Tucker joins the Titans after spending six seasons coaching wide receivers in the Canadian Football League, including the last four with Saskatchewan. In 2013, his group of receivers included three 1,000-yard receivers for only the second time in franchise history and Saskatchewan captured the Grey Cup. Tucker also brings experience as a player, spending two years (199-2000) with the Dallas Cowboys. He would have his greatest success as a player in the CFL, where he totaled 7,046 receiving yards during his seven-year career with Edmonton. He earned CFL All-Star honors four times and won two Grey Cups (2003, 2005) as a player. Tucker played his college football at TCU and was a sixth-round selection by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 1998 NFL Draft.

Titans have second easiest schedule according to AL.com

Isn't usually that predictable with 2nd pick and all.

Gregory a perfect fit for the Titans?

2. Tennessee Titans

This is where it will start to get real for Gregory.

The Titans transitioned to a base 3-4 defense under coordinator Ray Horton a year ago. It didn't go too well.

Tennessee finished 27th in total defense, 31st in run defense and 15th in pass defense.

Most importantly, the team didn't apply enough pressure on opposing quarterbacks in a scheme that is predicated on creating confusion, thus generating hits on those signal-callers. Tennessee finished 16th overall in sacks, and only one defender, Derrick Morgan, finished with more than five.

The Titans' problem is that the franchise didn't have the right talent in place to make a full-scale switch from their traditional four-man defensive front.

Kamerion Wimbley is an experienced 3-4 outside linebacker, but he's on the decline and didn't produce in 2014. Despite leading the team in sacks, Morgan isn't an ideal athlete as a 3-4 outside linebacker.

In order for the team to take the next step defensively, it needs a talent like Gregory to apply pressure off the edges. With the tremendous hire of **** LeBeau as linebackers coach, Gregory could develop into the next Joey Porter, Kevin Greene or any number of highly productive linebackers to previously play in this particular system.

It all comes down to whether or not the Titans actually value the Nebraska product highly, or if they eventually decide to go in another direction. Quarterback remains a major concern, which could trump every other decision.

There's a couple articles out there about Nate being a good depth free agent and....I agree. I'm kind of torn as to why they don't re-sign him because my guess is he doesn't ask for too too much money at his age. It was real obvious and a foregone conclusion at the end of the year, but still I'm stuck wondering why. I hope he goes to Seattle (or some winning team that could use a vet WR) and gets some big game experience to close his career and wish him well.

Casey is such an unusual player, there's an article discussing if he could be a NT under Lebeau. Umm he isn't anywhere near the weight required to do that. People need to think huge mammoth human wall type for 3-4 NT.
