Titans quarterback Vince Young injures hand

By JIM WYATT

Staff Writer

Titans rookie quarterback Vince Young injured his throwing hand when he accidentally hit it on a teammate's helmet during Wednesday afternoon's practice at Baptist Sports Park.

Young went to the ground, holding his hand, and remained down for several moments while being examined by trainers. He eventually left the field and went inside the building, where he was to undergo further tests.

The severity of the injury was not immediately known. Young was opening and closing his hand and didn't appear to be in significant pain as he left the field.

Terry McKormick of the Nashville City Paper reported on 104.5 the zone that xrays showed no broken bones...only bruised.

X-rays on hand of Titans QB Young were negative

(on Vince Young's injury)

I think he's going to be all right. X-rays were negative. He's going to have a sore hand, and we haven't ruled him out for the game.

(on if the injury scared him)

I wasn't concerned about it. This is the first time in eight years we've had a hand hit a helmet. We usually do a pretty good job with that. It happens. Preliminary examination on the field was just a bruise. We wanted to get X-rays for precautionary reasons, and they were negative.

(on if Young has had this happen before)

It's the first time that it has happened. He reached out and jammed it a couple of weeks ago, but it was just his thumb. It was minor. It was one of those things that happen. Last time that I can think of where we had an issue with a hand on a helmet was Steve (McNair), and it was our own running back who made a mistake in protection. It's part of practice. Unfortunately, it happens sometimes, and we're fortunate that there wasn't any damage.

So an inexperienced, running QB got injured...shocking.
So true cause you know if this was Young's second year, his hand would have been so much tougher, making it impossible to have got injured. :bye:
:11:
Preview this time next year from LHUCKS:"You know, if this was Young's rookie year, you just know when he fell down on his hand it would have been broken, rookie hands by nature are fragile!""What about Chad Pennington LHUCKS?""What?! That's different! Let me show you something I wrote that predicted this before it ever happened! I can predict the future!!!"

So an inexperienced, running QB got injured...shocking.
So somebody made an ignorant comment...shocking.What did being a running QB have to do with him hitting his hand on a teammate while throwing the ball?
I don't know, I haven't seen the play. Just pointing out the obvious here, which is Young was an injury waiting to happen.
and WELCOME TO THE NFL! You see, pro football is sort of a violent game and every once in a blue moon an injury is waiting to happen...to only rookies of course.

I guess so is Favre...and any other QB who has ever banged their hand on another player while throwing the ball.

Rookies are definitely more prone to injury than players in "their" prime...but I don't expect you to know anything about that. Your specialty is coming into the pool and starting shoot while being a nuisance as opposed to adding any substance.

Was the helmet on his teammate's head? You never know with this guy's release point . . .

That's pretty funny because I agree with you. Of course that also applies to you so I guess that makes it more ironic than funny.

Considering the injury came on a throw...and had nothing to do with his running...the comparison is valid. This injury...like others he may have...or any QB may have...has nothing to do with that playing style.Hence my comment about your being an ignorant one (which you admitted in your reply when you stated you had not seen the play.

Fixed. At this point he's just a RB taking snaps.
Spoken like someone who has not really watched him play. This is not Michael Vick people...
For this year he is and probably next year also regardless of what I saw him do at UT. Optimistically, sometime after that he'll reach Kordell Stewart level and throw 21 TD's in a season.

We've all seen him play. He's a running back playing qb. GFo to Youtube.com and type Vince Young. His highlight reels are nothing but runs. If he plays in the NFL the way he played in college, he'll have a very brief career.

Perhaps it's time to compile a list of qb's who won National Championships and went bust when they got to the NFL.

Don't they both throw with their hands and arms? Doesn't make them both equally likely to actually hit a helmet if it's in the area where they are moving their arms?I didn't see anywhere that said he was stiff-arming a guy trying to tackle him, or trying to scramble, dude hit his hand on a helmet...it happens, regardless of whether you're a running qb or not.

You should never expect that in life or you'll get burned. That said, I think you should be the last person in here who should comment about starting stuff and being a nuisance while hardly ever adding anything you can't read on a number of websites for free champ.Or are you going to talk about how great the PAC 10 is for what the 1000th time now? Go USC!

Wow...Youtube made a guy's highlight reels out of his exciting runs? Stop the presses...that must be all he has done. That is why he threw for 3073 yards, and 21 TDs as well right?Perhaps its time to compile a list of QBS who did well in college and busted....it has nothing to do with winning an NC or not.

The guy is an athlete who is a heck of a QB.

Actually, Cutler threw for 21 TD's last year, Vince threw for 26TD's. But skinsfan has seen a couple of highlight reels, so now he is an expert on Vince. How ironically stupid (yet predictable) that people are chiming in on Vince being an injury risk for running too much when he hurts his hand throwing a pass. Geez people. :wall:

You are correct...was looking at the stats and they are right there with each other.Though...the sentiment that running could get him injurred is there.

But so could being a pure pocket passer and having no mobility nor protection.

Vince Young injured his hand during practice Wednesday.

The No. 3 pick banged his thumb on a teammate's helmet. X-rays came back negative. Titans coach Jeff Fisher says Young hasn't been ruled out for this weekend's preseason game.
