Titans RB Situation (1 Viewer)

I was unable to find the previous Titans RB thread, has anyone heard anything?

I found this, dated 9-2-06

CBS SportsLine.com has learned from a source close to the Titans that Henry will be the team's starting running back in Week 1 vs. the N.Y. Jets. For the moment, however, the team still lists Chris Brown as their starting back. Brown owners are advised to add Henry as insurance if at all possible to grab hold of the Titans starting RB somehow.

While every starting RB has value, whoever starts may not put up great numbers if the team is as bad as it seems.

No. 1 back Brown looks forward now

Chris Brown still stands as the No. 1 running back, just as he did at the start of training camp.

The trade demands of his agent before camp feel like a distant memory, and Brown said he thinks any potential for him to be elsewhere is dead.

“I’m here, ready to start all 16, go out there and help this team win like I know I am capable of doing,” Brown said. “It’s in the back of everybody’s mind their contract year — you’ve got to go out and have a great year and show out.”

Coach Jeff Fisher reaffirmed his arrangement of the running backs and indicated they’d see action in Green Bay on Friday in their regular order, Brown first, Travis Henry second and rookie LenDale White third.

Running backs coach Sherman Smith said the contract and trade issues didn’t affect Brown’s play.

“That was all talk,” Smith said. “He was doing what he felt he needed to do to try to get something he wanted. I evaluate him on what he does on the field and he’s performed on the field.”

The first quote is the most telling...you gotta look a bit harder and don't trust cbsportsline as the gospel IMO.
-- Travis Henry as Starter Rumor Squashed --

Thu Aug 31, 2006 --from FFMastermind.com

The Tennessee Titans official website reports rumors began circulating yesterday on CBS Sportsline that RB Travis Henry had overtaken RB Chris Brown as the Titans’ starting running back. However, Fisher refuted that report on Wednesday, saying Brown is still the starter. It was also new information to Brown's ears. “I didn’t even hear about it,” Brown said. “You all are telling me something new. I had no idea about that. I didn’t hear anything about it.” Fisher said Brown will start at Green Bay, followed by Henry and rookie RB LenDale White.

RB C. Brown Still Stands As No.1 Back

I certainly have no insider information, but I'd expect that Tennessee will be somewhere around 2-6 at the halfway point, and you'll start seeing more and more of Lendale White.

Uhh, he'll have to earn his playing time. So far he's done nothing to warrant it and Fisher is rumored to be on the hot seat...he'll go with the best player IMO.

Hot seat? When the choice is to make it through the "hot seat" and remain the head coach of the Titans, a team looking at at least a few more years of pain before the possibility of success and a return to the playoffs, OR being jettisoned and coaching another team next year, why is this a hot seat?Coaches with no hope of future employment sit on a hot seat. Guys like Fisher won't have any problem finding another spot. He'd be snatched up in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the info everyone. I found it hard to believe the Titans would pencil in a player one slip up away from a year vacation as their #1 RB but there HAVE been dumber things done in the NFL.

No...see? You highlighted the wrong part. Like this:

“I’m here, ready to start all 16 (then come out after 3 plays when my tootsies hurt), go out there and help this team win like I know I am capable of doing,” Brown said.
Fixed.
