Annual thread
Chig is as dynamic as can be. He's probably got some highlights that he looks Pitts like even. Similar to Pitts he doesn't box out well and that's a thing for TEs to do. The prior staff had him work on blocking so very much and he improved some but it quite questionable. The light has gone on for him at times. He has had 4-6 game stretches where he's done everything asked well. If he could put a season of games together he could be a huge deal in FF. I've got him like ol Jermichael Finley. Others have high hopes.
Josh Whyle is someone the organization went to see for three years. Vrabel knew Cincinnati's coach well and every time they were scouting someone else there's a report or pic they met with him. The shine is only off a little bit with the staff change. He's 6-7, has sure hands, and played receiver before switching to TE. That's an appealing target it doesn't take a new staff long to notice. He was with the first string a lot last summer. He got dinged and Chig finished camp strong keeping his role. He barely played before getting injured yet got subbed in to make catches in traffic or on the goal line. Why so much trust? He's Levis' buddy, bro, whatever word. They did not play together last year. He came to mini camp putting weight on and the staff quotes were about improved blocking and the work he put in. Ya gotta leave a light on for this guy.
Nick Vannett is who we know he is. A veteran that should be third string. Two TE sets are expected to be largely gone so what's his role? Well both above are not sure blockers. The Titans drafted their future LT but all their RTs have awful PFF grades so do they need a TE to help the RT or will Daddy Callahan fix that up? (Yes their LT Latham was a RT in college but he's getting every chance to win the left)
Thomas Odukoya is a fan favorite to say the least. A member of the international player community, they have never optioned to have him active in 2 years and it drives fans nuts. He is as good a blocker in preseason as any TE I've ever seen. An absolute mauler with pancakes and OMG blocks that jump off the TV and catch your eye. I expected him to sign elsewhere but they talked him back. (Search for highlights, I'm not exaggerating) Daddy Callahan is going to adore this guy, no doubt. His hands are meh but not bad. Confidence he'd catch a lot but idk about in traffic tough ones. If he does not make the roster. I expect he declines an invite to PS and International exemption and goes elsewhere. There's no doubt he can hang at the NFL level but just what his role would be. I'd have put him at RT last year in a "couldn't be worse" mindset. This is an FF forum and he's nothing for FF though except...if that RT stinks, how will the Titans compensate? He still is probably nothing for FF.
David Martin Robinson and Steven Stillanos signed with the wrong team as UDFAs. There is no lack of young TE talent. Maybe they can make a mark on ST and build on that.
