Annual thread

There's probably almost nothing ya don't know about Hopkins, Ridley, and Boyd.

Ridley has supposedly worked harder than prior years this off-season. Idk about that but let's just say he's put work in.

Hopkins has gotten everyone together to work out a few times and they've gotten together with Levis other times too. A lot of work put in by this group.

Hopkins has always been the alpha since Andre retired. Levis obviously gravitated towards him and idk that that reasonably changes. It's possible the Ridley love is too strong now. I think people really gotta chew on this if you've predetermined one will have a clear advantage in productivity.

Predicting the same stats for both is lazy but it's also hmmm. If you happen to struggle with which one- my advice would be to use ADP to answer this question. No idk why this has come up so often but social media does weird things.

Kyle Phillips is Wes Welker II except he's made of glass. Every camp is OMG he's a great route runner and every season has him getting signed up often. He could be anywhere from cut to stealing Boyd's spot. I've got the former. Phillips was a PR but he's muffed a number of them.

NWI was a classic UDFA making his living on special teams and filling in in such a non exciting but hustling way, you'd swear you could hear him say "yes coach." It's been a few years and he's gotten noticably more comfortable. He looked overmatched as a starter but as a fourth...that may be his spot.

Treylon (what hasn't been said?) let me remind everyone that he too has always been a camp darling so it'll be difficult to gauge where he stands while veterans rest this summer. He will supposedly be used on KR and the GM has said he had an issue with the prior staff not utilizing his rushing ability as he showed in college. Does it matter? Is the door closed? He has as high a ceiling as anyone with the last pick of a draft. I say stop thinking about him and just sit on him. He also could be traded for peanuts for all we know. It's always a fair pick to draft high ceilings with the last pick. Burks has posted workout videos and recently some muscle flexing pics and he's most assuredly made Henry proud. He worked out privately with Hopkins too. His efforts have been noteworthy.

Mason Kinsey is the guy that should be cut but all the prior WR corps had guys making mistakes while he hustled and did things right. Sorry guy this is probably not your year as the new WRs won't be doing that

Colton Dowell could already be done with his NFL career. A 7th round pick that was invited to the Titans local pro day and outshined the highly rated Tennessee WRs two years ago. He tore his ACL and was a "need a few years to develop" type. The NFL world is not kind to this type. He looked lost on the field and definitely got more comfortable so who cares if a rookie looks lost initially. He has size, speed, and hands we covet but this longshot is expected to be on PUP.

Jhaquan Jackson was drafted as a KR and showed some chops at WR in the spring. I'm hesitant here but leaving a light on.

Kearis Jackson was supposedly going to be a better pro than college player in the let's all roll our eyes together fashion. Well he looked pretty good last summer. He handled returns and looked fine with the few WR opportunities he got. I've got him locked into a sixth role and someone's gotta take it from him.

Treshaun Harrison was an interesting UDFA last year. He made plays and looked the part in the summer. Idk why he didn't work his way up the depth chart. Probably because he isn't 6-6 with 4.2 speed or some exaggeration but he looked good. He also did well on ST. Maybe the Titans have a fifth sixth WR for another team to pickup off waivers? It's hard to see a role in TEN but the guy can play. If he's UFL material then I'll definitely have him in DFS. He was to be a developmental project but when a team adds three free agents in two years, the whole landscape changes.

Burks' and Phillips' problem is they may be a better WR than the depth guys but the team may need the best ST players not the best WR of the bunch.

Bryce Oliver and Sam Schnee picked a tough team to join as UDFAs. After the top three, these guys all have roles they do well and are young. It's a tough mountain to climb for them.

Tyler Boyd's one year contract has 1.2 mil guaranteed. 750k plus bonus. The vet minimum is 840k. He is 29 and he has clearly lost a step. The door is open for him to not make the team. I wouldn't at all say it's likely but camp could have us discussing this. (His total is 2.4 mil, not to confuse, tried to word that for presentation. Please note guaranteed $)

GM Ran Carthon mentioned Burks having matured, taken a conversation with he and Callahan to heart and praising his off-season efforts and commitment.

Thanks as always Bri.

I know he's only on a one year deal and I'm sure it was enticing to link up with his former OC in Ten, but I really question Boyd's decision making in coming to Ten at 29 like you mention even though he's a slot and the other two are locks at outside WR (but may move around). Did he have 0 interest?

Boyd would've been a nice fit with the Chargers. Vacant targets and they could've used him in the slot and eased in McConkey more gradually. But the familiarity with Callahan helps.

I wonder if there's any hope left for Burks or if he'll need a change of scenery.

When a player loses a step and is reasonable about it, he wants to play for a coach that still sees his value.
He probably believes Callahan is that guy and he'll show that value.
He had dings last year. He's probably not as slow (a step) as it appeared sometimes. Hands, smarts, knowing how to work a defender, helping others know the offense including a young QB....he has clear value just has to display it

I will say, as a non Titans fan that lives close and still goes to a game a year, it's arguably the best wr group they have had in awhile. They have put Levis in a position where he has to take the next step. No excuses. My gut says Hopkins and Ridley are a good matching and both should have decent numbers. Boyd on 3 wrs sets and that's solid.

Hopkins vs Ridley is the big question.

Who will draw the top CB most often?
Which WR will have the most 1st reads in this offense?

Nuk is the alpha no doubt but it's a classical debate for FF- is it better to be #2WR and get the lesser CB or to be the first read more often? If you're a DC which guy are you doubling?

Ridley has always been OMG big n fast when you notice him. Hopkins is as good as anyone in history at "my ball" mentality so there's a positive vibe that they'll each win their matchup.

Snead is on a load management system this summer using analytics and GPS so idk how often he's practicing but it should be often enough. The Titans have top corners now and should be able to have a good battle throughout camp and hopefully shed some light here.
It's also great for the QBs trying to learn and impress the new staff. Yes nice new WRs but good luck against those corners. I'm hopeful we'll have a decent idea for predictions as the summer plays out

No pads first day definitely won by the defense and most quotes are Ridley had a nice grab but the offense was off. Ridley made a catch but did anyone else? They looked angry and frustrated etc.

Grow from it. Who cares

More of a drill day but the WRs and offense were noticably better in the offense when they were out there.

Awuze out two weeks had to make it some easier too.
Still waiting for pads

IMHO, Hopkins is going to crush his ADP this season. I'm bullish on Levis taking a step forward, I like the adds of Mason Rudolph (as mentor), Pollard, Ridley and Boyd.

I feel very strongly that with Henry gone, Hopkins is going to assume the mantle of leadership on the offense, the improvement at WR2/3 with Ridley/Boyd is going to create space for the crafty vet to work his route running magic, and he's proven to be QB-proof over all previous spots.

Hopkins is going to eat the Lion's share of the receiving pie, I think, whatever it might be.

Burks had a good day. Everyone is noticing a "get to work" demeanor and zero arrogance or hop in his step like the former first rounder used to have. He's all business in a good way

Right on cue 😅

I'm rooting for the guy.

Exactly
It's going to be hard to know how he'll do in season

Fans at practice yesterday. One hmmm thing is there are many that say Burks is clearly better, faster, stronger, better cuts, looks like veteran....lots of favorable thoughts and many are from season ticket holders.
The interesting thing for me was how they were also all saying he was open often and NOT getting the ball thrown his way nor even the QB looking his way.

Some don't like Ridley's lack of effort on throws that are a bit off.

It's been a while maybe three years since fans were allowed at camp and they didn't just do drills.

Generally I think nothing of these reports unless reporters state same. I just kinda hang onto the thought and see if it matters some day down the road

It seems like everyone not starting has been at KR. Every reporter has a different guy standing out soon I'm thinking no one has yet.

Many say Burks has been noticable as a gunner.

He dropped a pass in drills yesterday on awful timing and today tried to be fancy and go left handed. It's catching my attention that he's doing so well that's all anyone could complain about

Burks and Ridley were singled out as having especially good days
Treshaun Harrison seems to always have a play late each day.

So far a week or so into camp nothing has been very surprising and I don't generally have much to share here. Usually I do and it's a competition but Nuk, Ridley, and Boyd are players that generally meet expectations.

I've mentioned Burks would probably do real well and that's an issue with evaluating him too since he's never struggled in the summer. I think he has done very well.

Kyle Phillips has not seemed to be noticed much. I would put a post-it w his name on it for a team picking him up after cuts or some very very weak trade like a future 7th. He is an exceptional route runner Welker clone that has been injured too much. He's certainly good enough to play in the league if he stays healthy. He's got time. He can impress TEN coaches still.

Harrison got injured/tweak and came back in today and that setup the coaches to comment and he's as I said earlier. He's not an elite talent prototype but he got things done last camp and has so far too. He's a pretty good gunner and returner so he's my sixth WR right now.

Jhaquan Jackson is an exciting speedy little bugger that has had a couple returns reporters singled out but I feel like there should be many. He's been used in the backfield and on reverses but in my experience, that rarely ever happens in the regular season and is more of an exciting camp test for the defense that I foolishly give weight to. Not surprisingly, he's been barely mentioned as a WR once pads came on. For me the shine on this drafted WR is fading and he's possibly just another speedy lil bugger that every team has in camp.

No name UDFA Oliver has made several plays on deep balls and kudos to him but I don't see a path to him making it.

NWI has been NWI. You can see the coaches in pressers and he's starting to grow on them. He's still a considerable obstacle for Burks' playing time and he does everything that 4th 5th WRs do very well.

Right now, Boyd's had some eh moments and some good moments. Highlight on X yesterday of him getting owned by a young corner deep, today of him getting open deep and aggressively winning like "that's my ball." You can tell though he's gifted the third spot and simply needs to be himself. Any negative is quickly answered with a positive and that's what we'd expect from a veteran WR too.

I think Nuk, Ridley, Boyd, Burks, Jahquan, and Treshaun as the six but I very much think the three are totally still up for grabs

This seems like a good thread to bump with the Hopkins news.
Burks might have a small window of opportunity to carry over his camp success into the regular season.

Hopkins knee was reported as a tweak, he practiced with a wrap, then they called it a strain and expect him ready for week one.

It doesn't sound concerning but instead preventative

ETA knee at practice quick clip

It is a good opportunity for Burks and NWI too.
Maybe Phillips can show out.

Ridley and Boyd getting time to build a rapport with Levis...I guess.

Also Hopkins has a piece of tape above and below the knee then later it's all covered with tape. That tells me they thought they could just tape it and probably reassessed and talked about the longtime veteran later, slept on it, and made a decision today.

(He didn't leave practice either)

That's not a significant injury timeline

I agree. if Levis cant take the next step with this group of WR he flips from prospect to suspect.

I expect if he can stay healthy, he does improve. the question is by how much.

Callahan said the timeline could vary with Hopkins and they'll see how everything goes.

That's a pretty typical followup to a player that hates sitting. It doesn't really change a thing just probably is Hopkins saying I'll be back sooner and he's saying we'll do what the docs and trainers say and...that whole thing.

NASHVILLE – Titans veteran receiver DeAndre Hopkins will miss "several weeks" with a knee injury, Coach Brian Callahan said on Saturday morning.

Hopkins suffered the injury earlier this week.

Callahan, who met with reporters before today's practice, said there's no exact timetable for Hopkins to return.

"It's not a surgical issue, so the timeline could vary on those injuries," Callahan said. "So it will be a few weeks probably until he's back and ready to roll."

*********
Snip of Wyatt's article
That's a lower timeline of a few weeks BUT I still say week one

Ridley had a great day today and it seems every WR had their moments today. Ridley is really catching reporters eyes. Between Hopkins and Julio and AJB and...they've seen their share over the years so it's of some significance that they're starting to rave about his cuts, size, and speed.

No Phillips notes.
Burks and NWI with TDs and few catches. Burks tried to catch a bullet left handed and didn't. Per usual that's his only drop and doesn't matter.

Harrison is dinged up

"Callahan: Trust level in Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is very high. I have a lot of respect for his journey. He's been dependable, never has mental errors, and he's reliable when the ball is in the air"

Snead said he's been telling Burks often how he's so much better than the guy he prepared for previously.
Still doing well
Still doing well as a gunner
Seems like he's not often included in KR which means he's either a given for it or he's not really being considered sooo ?

Phillips (on cue) had another even better practice making a couple catches in traffic including a TD and breaking ankles in drills.

Boyd had a meh move that also broke an ankle (phrase) but regardless it's nice he can still do that.

NWI had another very good day, quote above, besides WR, noted return and block on return. He's acclimated himself to the new staff and they also love the guy. Still weird how it's weird but he got faster w deep speed last year and is beating guys deep most days. He's as complete a WR as there is with prototype work ethic and hustle for a depth 4th 5th WR. He's gotta be locked into a depth spot with only pitiful play possibly losing it. Again this could be a problem for Burks or it could not matter.

Kearis has been out with a foot injury and that's what ended his season last year. He's gotta get back asap.

Jackson had a nice end around, three catches and a TD but I'm noticing (by his teammates in writeups) unless gimmicky he's more with 2nd 3rd string.

Oliver showed up again after missing a day and he's not accepting he has no chance to make the roster in the best UDFA type way

Kinsey has had an excellent last two days and a good camp. I'm noticing I take him for granted and forget to mention him.

Callahan said Ridley and Levis have to work on their deep game and their timing has been off. He had them watch some cutups of previous QB/WR duos.

Phillips noted as having another very good day
Kearis is back and Willis threaded one to him that bounced off his facemask.

Late in practice Burks came down "funny" and had a limp. Practice was over and no followup if it's no big deal or not.

Callahan said Ridley and Levis have to work on their deep game and their timing has been off. He had them watch some cutups of previous QB/WR duos.
On cue, Levis hit Ridley deep twice today and the two looked unstoppable
I picked up Ridley this offseason pretty cheap (swapped what should be a fairly late 1st for a fairly high 2nd). Kind of getting excited about it now. Ridley's talent is obvious and I thought he was really misused in Jacksonville last year. He had a couple big drops and I think Lawrence lost confidence in him. Going in the 6th round range in redraft, which should be an excellent value.

He dropped a lot and he has almost no broken tackles in his career. No doubt prototype bod and speed and hands n all but he has a lot of room to improve.
He's a decent bet this year. I'd say a good bet to improve but we've got some standards over the years w him

Levis praised NWI yesterday. I guess I forgot to post it. Very nice compliments as has been said his whole career. Say what ya want talent wise but everything else, he's an absolute gem

Does he still put mayonnaise in his coffee? Jk, as a UK fan I pulled for him in college. As a Colts fan I no longer do that.

Bad day for WRs and QBs. Titans OC noted as livid, Titans HC noted as finding the positive so I guess the positive is that's a fair coaching 1-2 punch to handle the situation.

Phillips looked great in drills and has come on for the last week.
Ridley punched out an INT should not be the best play of WRs at a day of camp

UDFA Oliver is still doing well and has earned second team reps for the first time I notice in notes. He seems to have had the only sincere good play. This is looking like the feel good sorry to see you leave story of camp. I just can't see him making it yet there he is making a play and moving up the depth chart.

Burks was back and fine

He said some statement last year that he doesn't. Hellman's or whichever company was furious and the next day Levis was drinking that and said he was kidding the day before. Idk that a lifetime supply sponsorship guy can admit if he doesn't. I thought it was kinda funny like welcome to the NFL rookie

Many fans and the coach all mentioned how even if just a short time, Ridley really stood out and looks great.
Jahquan Jackson played late after practicing with third string and a lot of times this can be the kiss of death to roster hopes maybe even guarantee a PS spot for drafted WRs. There is no fact here just something to chew on.
Kearis had a big KR and Jackson had a big punt return and coach was very pleased with special teams.
Jahquan was in on first kickoff back with Kearis.

It looks to me like Kearis' job to lose.

Phillips and Kinsey do not have their usual battle for one spot as this offense is different and there isn't a classic slot role. In this offense the slot needs to be capable elsewhere and it is more a way for the coach to also utilize a players- Boyd and Chig can play outside and FB respectively. I thought Phillips and Mason both look like they're playing for prior regime/out of place and it won't carry over and they'll be cut. Coach though mentioned their route running and how they show up every day in practice.

Many expected more from Burks. It's impossible to judge a star practice player that doesn't show up in games. He started. He didn't flash. For now, starting means most to me. I do think he'll have to make some plays in preseason

We know Burks can occasionally make an eye-popping play. It's just too few and far between, with the rest of his time (so far) mostly filled with inconsistency, not getting open, or not pulling in catchable (even if difficult) passes. He'll probably make the 53 regardless, but if he can't be a dominant WR in the preseason against 2nd string secondaries, I have to wonder what is his actual value to this team.

Seahawks joint practice today
Bryce Oliver with catch of the day with second string is really interesting.
Ridley struggling bad against Woolen in drills.
Third down drills, he had a drop and a Levis overthrow. Really hate to see this after all the rave reviews but... whatever, work it out Ridley.

Hawks can't cover Phillips in drills of third down so he's back up to where he usually is in camp.
Jahquan with a short slant all speed then few plays later got another and turned it into 75 yd TD. Hawks look foolish or kudos to him as reporters seemed to know it's coming and he still did that.
Both above doing well with Boyd sitting.

(Burks thread)
Burks had two great catches today and looked good in drills
He and Phillips caught Hawks reporters eyes.

Burks had everyone saying hurt hammy but coach said it was cramps

Turron noted zero completions to Ridley
Callahan said they've gotta get in sync which is about what he said last week at this time but that was just the deep ball then.
Jahquan and Oliver w three catches
Treshaun Harrison out again.

#Seahawks CB Devon Witherspoon saying “I’m trash, man” repeatedly after getting beat by #Titans WR Kearis Jackson in 1-on-1s.

Burks made it a point to tell reporters it's not a hamstring just cramps.

Very interesting that Callahan said w Boyd out that Kearis leads (Jahquan, Kinsey, and Phillips) that position. He reminded reporters that he doesn't do much have a backup slot and the backups have to play all three spots and contribute on ST. They all do contribute and look good in the slot but Kearis has some outside ability. I did NOT expect that. That's considerable news.

In another Q, He mentioned "if six WRs active on GameDay..." That could mean keep seven which is very high BUT sticking with six I'd guess-

Hopkins, Ridley, Boyd, Burks, NWI, and Kearis.

He also replied yes they do have good depth and they can't keep everyone.

Ridley had another bad day. Woolen owned him. When Witherspoon was on him, much of the same . There's a good number of videos on X and he looks like a peewee kid running routes. I'm really upset about the WR coach's coaching ability. How do you.... Nuk won't tolerate that so it won't be an issue in season.

A LOT of stop n gos where he bends down (why!) didn't see one planted foot cut

Ridley owned it and respect for that. He said his energy hasn't been there. Complimented Woolen. Said he keeps trying but he's not feeling it and genuinely looked frustrated.

Callahan told a quick story of rookie Jamar Chase w many drops and not getting open and people said he couldn't catch the ball and was a bust. Said he thought Jerry Rice went through it too He's not concerned because Ridley knows what he has to do and has put in great effort.

Maybe he should have had day one off? It's just ugh
