Todays College RBs (1 Viewer)

Every year my keeper league does a "Developmental Draft" after week 8 of the NFL season. You have 2 spots where you can draft and hold a college player until he makes it to the Pros. Portis, Manning, Bush, Moss and many others go this route.

How does this years crop of NCAA stud RBs measure up? If you could take a player or two that you knew would be a star in teh NFL who would it be?

FYI some players are already taken from previous years drafts.

Marshawn Lunch RB Cal

Michael Bush RB Louisville

Tony Hunt RB Penn St

Ramonce Taylor Rb Tex

Darius Walker RB ND

Mike Hart RB Mich

Tyronne Moss RB Miami

Stafon Johnson USC RB

Tyrell Sutton RB NW

Adrian Peterson RB OK

Jamaal Charles RB Tx

Gary Russell, RB Minn

Dwayne Jarrett WR USC

RBs are the most valuable so I am looking for thoughts and insite on them but wont discourage WR talk either. I have the rights to Tyronne Moss but am thinking of dropping him if some good options pop up.

Kenny Irons is avail. What are the thoughts on him?

I was also looking at Javarris James - RB - Miami Hurricanes who is related to Edge. Although he is a freshman, he is looking good and the Miami backs often turn out to be good pros (hopefully he is more edge, portis, gore, mcgahee then james jackson and pooper davenport). He may not have the speed of portis but he has looked good.

So I ask for your thoughts..... thanks

DeShawn Wynn - RB Florida

Height: 5-11 Weight: 232

Position: RB

Class/Draft Year: Sr/2007

40 Time: 4.58 40 Low: 4.54 40 High: 4.63

I don't know why you have Stafon Johnson on there for 'SC...he hasn't done anything yet. Moody has looked good and seems to be the cream of the true freshman crop although he has a bit of an issue fumbling so far.

Either way it is early.

Really, towards the top of your list you need to have Calvin Johnson, WR. That kid is a stud.

Kenny Irons will be a beast. This kid is fast and he puts the hit on the tackler not the other way a round. He has been slowed by turf toe this season (held out of two games to rest - buffaloe and tulane - cause obviously Auburn didnt need him in those games) which my cause him to be undervalued by dynasty leagues. Dont let him slip by you.

Going to be a long wait for J James -- 2009 draft at least.

I'm a big fan of Pittman out of OSU -- big strong sled of a back -- drags tacklers and falls forward.

Also, for my :homer: comment -- I'd look at Lorenzo Booker out of FSU -- he'll probably be a rd 3/4 type pick, but he can fly and is underused in the Jeff Bowden Disaster. Also doesn't have an Oline in front of him -- take a look at Leon Washington for an example from the JBD turned positive in the NFL.

Depending on how far out you can look and how many spots, take a flyer on Brandon Ore of VT. I think he's only a sophomore. His line suxors, cause its all freshmen and juniors, but he looks like a pretty damn good RB to me and they should be very good next year (90% of the starters are underclassmen).

I think he's got more game than Suggs did at VT. Not quite as much as KJ though. Of course KJ was the #1 rated HS RB in the US when he got there. Ore was around #15.

That is just a list of guys being held from previous years. One owner thought he would be a "shark" and grab the kid before he entered college. He can still drop him.Is T Moss worth keeping? I realize James wont be out for a few years but if he is looking good now I may want to grab him before someone else does.I have heard a lot about Irons and Slaton, just looking for input and thoughts on them and any other guys. Had the tip on Addai and missed out on him this past year.

CJ Spiller of Clemson - might be a true freshman

Andre Brown or NC State - tries to hit the home run too much but has a load of talent

Marlon Lucky, RB - Nebraska

Hasn't truly exploded this season, but that isn't his fault. The Nebraska coaching staff is running a four-headed monster of a RB stable to great effect. All four RB's have had 100 yard games. However, I think Lucky has the greatest chance of making it in the NFL. He has great hands, and is pretty quick. Not a huge bruiser though at 6' ~210lbs.

I would take any of these RBs over Moss:

Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas

Steve Slaton, RB, WVU

Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers

James Davis, RB, Clemson

PJ Hill, RB, Wisconsin

Ummmm, Darren McFadden (true soph). 6-2, 210 with room to get bigger, runs a 4.4. He's considered the #1 RB prospect for the 2008 NFL draft my a number of experts that I've read . He's better than Irons IMO and most others agree. I love Steve Slaton also.

I'm telling you right now, Alley Broussard is a freaking beast. He did not play last season because of a torn ACL and has started this season slow. But he was the #1 RB at LSU, ahead of Addai and Justin Vincent going into last year. He is 6'0" 240lbs and fast.

This video doesn't have any games from this season, but he has been putting a licking on defenses.

Another guy to watch for is Justin Vincent. He is finally a senior at LSU and went from SEC Championship MVP to National Championship MVP as a freshman to a back up roll. He will get drafted and play because he is a good special teams player. Not really sure why he fell on the depth chart after having one of the best freshman seasons in NCAA Football history.

Nice to see someone else riding the Lucky train. Having seen the guy play in person I can tell you that he's an NFL talent. It's disappointing to see him not doing that well so far, but he's a guy like Faulk who needs to be used in the passing game more. Blocking is probably an issue for him since he did so little of it in HS but I think he can pick it up and be a force next year. I absolutely love the way he plays - he's a carbon copy of Marshall Faulk.

 Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma and Marshawn Lynch, California are your top 2 RBsIrons is not in that group. Although I think he will be a decent back in the pros if he goes to the right team.

Need some extra guys for a fight or to rob a liquor store yeah. Not any NFL talent at RB there in Miami right now though.

We play with a college roster also. Lynch is my favorite for this year's draft. His vision, hands, quickness, toughness and leadership are superior. People may fear Cal RBs after JJ Arrington, but there's really very little in common with these two. Lynch has great size/speed ratio and is in the 215-220 lbs vicinity right now. The two sophomores that you MUST jump on is Darren McFadden and Jonathan Stewart. The most amazing part of McFadden's season is that he needed surgery on his toe this summer. There's no way he's 100% yet. And yet he still is one of the most explosive players in the country. Jonathan Stewart's body is NFL ready right now--the guy is a monster. But in a good way.

If you look at my signature below, you can see that I am invested in each of these guys.

Don't sleep on Lynch. He's a top 15 talent IMO. I only like Peterson and Stewart better.

Also I think that the way that Edge is producing this year for the Cards shows that JJ's production last year wasn't all due to his ability as a runner. He might get another shot in the NFL somewhere.

I think Javarris James will prove the final part of that statement wrong in time. But as he's a freshman it will a little while off.

I am looking at a Jr/SR for one pick (someone to impact next years NFL) and a SO/FR to hold for next year. I like the idea of the Darren McFadden and Jonathan Stewart and then grabbing James in Mia next year.

Since Lynch and Peterson are taken I may be looking at Irons or Slaton.

I think I have the 2nd and 3rd pick

Alley Broussard for a head knocking RB. Irons for a guy who can catch and is tough. Slaton is just fast.

Those guys are already taken from his league. They were drafted already! Why is everyone talking about guys who are gone already?

I'm glad you pointed him out. He's doing some pretty amazing things for a redshirt freshman back, yet not everyone is noticing. He could be Dayne redux, but I tend to think he has a lot more room to improve.

Alley if he can come back solid next year will be a great NFL player, but he has not handled the ACL surgery well. He shows flashes of his past running, but for the most part he stopped running hard and stops his feet and moves more east/west this season. Vincent is buried on the depth chart and is currently the 4th string RB, he should be nothing more than a special teams player in the NFL. The better prospects for RB are the freshmen Charles Scott (32) and Keiland Williams (5). LSU has a huge depth chart at QB, RB and WR it's hard to see who will emerge as the top, but some of them will be a surprise in the NFL.

Broussard did have some problems w/ his knee this summer and at the beginning of the season. Due to the injury he put on some weight and was up to about 260 lbs. However, he has shed some weight, down to about 240 lbs now and has looked very fast and strong the last couple of games. Check out the YouTube video of the LSU/Fresno State game that I posted.I agree that Charles Scott and Keiland Williams are going to be studs. If anybody wants to know about a WR who will be a stud in the NFL, it is Dwayne Bowe. He is a senior this season and could possibly be a 1st rounder.

Cory Boyd - South Carolina

Sydney Rice - South Carolina

Mario Manningham -Michigan

Dallas Baker - Florida

That run was the old Alley, but against tougher teams Alley has been stuffed and while running he looks nothing like he has in the past. I hope he can turn it around. I saw the Fresno state game in Tiger stadium during that horrible weather. That run was the old Alley, but I would like to see him turn it on against Tennesse. 8 LSU players carried the ball in a RBBC hell last week, and they all looked good. Bowe has the skills to play in the NFL. He really bulked up from last season and looks like he has not lost a step. He had a vison correction, and the dropped balls that has held back his value has improved, but in critical times there were a couple of drops against Aurburn and Florida. Trindin Holiday looks to be the real deal as a Freshamn WR, and Craig "Buster" Davis will be a solid mid round pick.

Didn't Bowe have that lazer eye surgery to correct his site? I think he was legally blind before the surgery. That explains his dropped passes before this season.

Yes, he did, and I can clearly see he is much better. However, as a avid LSU fan a couple of critcal passes for 1st downs were dropped against Aurburn and Florida. And that sticks in the scout's heads the most.

I've been to three Razorback games this year and I'm telling you, jump on McFadden as fast as you can. The kid is incredible. He's got a second gear that is AWESOME! He can move the pile, he can burn. He's amazing.
