Tony Gonzalez Shoulder Injury (1 Viewer)

From RotoWorld:

Tony Gonzalez (shoulder) may be out for the next two-to-three weeks.

Gonzo was seen wincing after Sunday's game with his sprained shoulder in a sling. With Tony unwilling to speak to reporters, his older brother Chris gave the Miami-area media a timetable for his sibling's recovery. The Chiefs will likely address Gonzalez's situation when coach Herm Edwards holds his press conference on Tuesday. No. 2 tight end Jason Dunn is the favorite to start in his place, and fullback Kris Wilson could see a bigger role.

If there's any good news is that Gonzalez's Week 12 matchup is against the Broncos and he's been absolutely owned by the Broncos in recent meetings. So that was a game where he was probably going to let Gonzalez owners down and now they will have the option of maybe getting better production out of the TE spot that week. I realize that's a bit of a reach given how well Gonzalez has been playing but at least it's something.

gonzales is out. fitz may be out again.

there goes my playoff run. :wall: :wall:

Here is RW speculating again....

It was just reported in KC that Gonzalez said his neck and shoulder were sore but he would play next week because it is Raider week.

Don't think it was RW speculating, but the Palm Beach Post that is doing the specualting.http://www.palmbeachpost.com/dolphins/cont...hiefssider.html

Tight end Tony Gonzalez, wincing with his left arm in a sling, spoke only to fellow players and his brother, who attended the game as a fan.

Gonzalez hurt his shoulder on the Chiefs' final drive while going for a deep ball down the middle. Safety Yeremiah Bell landed on him.

Chris Gonzalez said his brother had a strained shoulder and would miss the next two to three weeks.

"(Bell) rolled on it and pulled his arm down," said Chris Gonzalez, 32. "He doesn't take pain very well. ... He'll be OK. He said, 'Call mom, let her know everything's OK.' I told him he'll be all right."

Gonzalez left with a game-high six catches for 84 yards.

Gonzalez missed the last two plays by Kansas City, leaving Huard without his main target.

"We always try to get the ball to Tony," Huard said.

Seeing Gonzalez go out startled Dolphins tight end Randy McMichael, who walked onto the field to check on him.

"I have so much respect for that guy. He's the best. He's 1a and 1b. I just went out to make sure he's OK. I said, 'Tony, just get up,'" McMichael said.

After promoting the Thanksgiving game all season on NFL Network, he can't miss the Bronco game (I don't own him in any league - I'm just saying that because he's in the ads promoting this game).

Well, that is a little better......I wonder if Chris is a doctor though?
No, but he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night. We won't know anything definitive until Wednesday, at the earliest. But I wouldn't count on him for the next two weeks.

This would be good news if true. From RotoWorld:

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Tony Gonzalez (shoulder) will not play in Week 11, but that it may be the only game he misses.

Schefter points out that Gonzalez has a "very high threshold of pain" and that he could be back by Kansas City's Thanksgiving Day game. Jason Dunn and Kris Wilson are decent fill-in options vs. Oakland this week.

First this:

"He's getting more tests today and we'll find out tomorrow or the next day the extent of how long he'll be out. This weekend, he's definitely out," Edwards said.

Edwards said Gonzalez was feeling sore, but still defiant.

"He was telling me today he could play on third down."

Expect him to be Doubtful for the Raiders game and then probably Questionable for the Broncos game, which is 50/50. It's just too hard to guess his status for the Broncos game since that depends on his progression over the next week. It is a Thursday game though so 3 less days of rest than he would have normally had.

Let's look at Chris Gonzalez's comments more closely and read between the lines to figure out what he's really saying:"Yeah, my little brother is a [euphemism for cat]. He was always crying when I beat him up. He wanted to go crying to mom (again), but I told him to suck it up and he'd be fine."

:lmao:

Brothers are awesome.

is anyone else doubtful that Jason Dunn will be the guy in KC with Gonzo out? i think this might open a door for Kris Wilson to show what he can do.

Dunn is a blocking TE, more of a 3rd offensive tackle. The Chiefs would be smart to give Gonzo's downfield routes to Wilson. Wilson definitely has the athleticism to excel in that role.

Gonzalez has missed a total of one game in 9+ years in the league. He has a high pain threshhold. In 2002 I benched him because he had a hand injury and he went and had the best game of his career (7/140/3). He'll be back soon.

Some things to throw out there-I remember that guy with some catches in Philly. He's not the box of rocks people have been making him out to be but I have no clue how good his hands are. If Wilson moves to TE who plays FB? Have they picked one up? Can LJ go out of a single back set alot? Green COULD be back soon. We're talking about some key protectors too. It might be easier to just roll with some 3 WR sets and for the most part leave things alone. Maybe add in a few more routes from the FB spot for Wilson.

More on his status for this week from RotoWorld:

Tony Gonzalez is will be listed as doubtful for Week 11.

Coach Herm Edwards said Gonzo was angling to be the team's "third down tight end," which is a good sign. Edwards seemed to dismiss Gonzalez's chances of playing this week, and he sounds questionable for Week 12.

We need to merge the two Gonzalez threads....so much speculation going on.

This is from Herman Edwards' presser this morning

----------------------

1Q: How does the loss of Gonzalez affect what you do on offense?

EDWARDS: “It affects you a little bit. He’s a big target and is having a pretty good year catching the ball and blocking. Now we’ve got to get other guys involved. He’s been a good player and is another guy who’s started a lot of games here and hasn’t missed a game in quite some time. He’s doubtful this week and if he’s going to miss this week so be it. We’re going to have to continue to get other guys the football.

“First off, we’ve got to find a way to make first downs.”

Q: Do you start working Kris Wilson back at fullback and tight end?

EDWARDS: “Jason (Dunn) will be the tight end at this point and we’ll leave Kris where he’s at and we’ve got some other things we can do with Kris, as we do with some other players. That’s what we’re formulating now ‘cause when you lose a big weapon, a guy who’s been a pretty good player, then some other guys have to step up and play.”

Q: Have you talked to Tony and is his injury known now? He’s doubtful you say?

EDWARDS: “Yeah, he was in yesterday. Yeah, maybe (might play). Last night he said he wanted to be the third tight end and wanted to be the third down tight end. That’s Tony though. It’s good to hear him say that as the week goes on.”

Q: So you’re hopeful for the Thanksgiving game?

EDWARDS: “Yeah, I would hope, but we’ll see. It’s a pain tolerance deal and we’ll see as the week goes on.”

I just dumped Gonzo's backup I had (in Heath Miller) to pick up the Bills D/ST to replace the quickly fading Falcons D/ST.

Now I'm stuck with Kris Wilson and Bo Scaife to carry the load. Sucks to be me. C'mon Gonzo... suck it up man. You're basically in a contract year.

starting Wilson in a couple leagues. If he gets the 1 catch for 10 yards and a TD stats he's had each week, that'll do well sorta. Anything better(which I expect) is sweet.

If you have Kris Wilson and don't start him this week, you should drop him. You sure are not going to start him when Tony returns so what's the point

You have to consider the importance and difficulty of this game compared to the importance and difficulty of next week's game.

It would make more sense for Gonzalez to sit this week and be as healthy as possible for Denver. Even if he can draw Champ Bailey as a decoy, I like the Chiefs' WRs against Darrent Williams and co.

Now I'm stuck with Kris Wilson and Bo Scaife to carry the load.
I don't know. There are worse options out there. Scaife gets a lot of targets, no? And Wilson has two touchdowns playing behind perhaps the best tight end in the game. It's reasonable to assume that he might have a very solid game today: for KC in the red zone, if it's not Larry Johnson, it's normally the tight end.

Jacket, Wilson's playing FB
This will be Wilson's first action without Gonzalez - we can say with no certainty where he officially starts. In all likelihood, he sees more action as a tight end than as a fullback. If you watch the Chiefs you'll see that Wilson often splits out from the fullback position, anyway. He's only playing fullback for two reasons: (1) Tony Gonzalez, and (2) Ronnie Cruz on IR.He was drafted to be the dual-TE.

you said he had 2 TDs backing up Tony G so I was replying to that.Herm said he'd start at FB and Dunn at TE(article in this thread I think)

We should know more by Tomorrow around noon KC time, when Herman Edwards meets with the media.

The speculation is the Gonzalez, Waters, Wesley, D. Johnson all will be probable for Thursday.

That would be a HUGE boost for KC on both sides of the ball.

according to sportsline:

News: According to a SIRIUS Satellite Radio interview, Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards said there is a "good chance" TE Tony Gonzalez will play on Thursday against the Broncos.

Is a "good chance" = to probable ? or somewhere between probable and questionable?

The game means too much.

Gonzalez will play, and play well (unless Denver continues to do everything they can to stop him - which has often led to them getting torn apart by one of, or both, Larry Johnson and Eddie Kennsion).
