Tooth Extraction / Dental Implant ? (1 Viewer)

Paging Dentist I guess...

Saw the endodontist today for a tooth problem. He says with 99.9% certainty that I have a root fracture from a previous root canal done 12 years ago. There is bone loss around the tooth, and so the tooth must come out.

Anyone deal with this? Not afraid of having it removed, as it is just seems weird that I have to have a tooth pulled. Assuming I will need some sort of bone graft and then an implant.

And what sort of cost are we talking about here? I have insurance with 50% coverage for Major Restorative procedures.

my wife went thru this, think after insurance we came in the 2-3k range. slow process...first extraction, healing, then bone implants, 3 months, recheck, post, 3 months, recheck then back to regular dentist for the crown work.

Wifey going through this now. Tooth cracked, couldn't root canal, had to pull it. She just had the implant put in. She still needs to go to her dentist for the crown. I think we've paid around $1,750 so far, my insurance is the same as yours.

I had 3 done. About $3k each. That was back when I was single and had decent disposable income

It seems wierd to me that implants arent covered. that seems like a basic need.
lmfaoThey are cosmetic. If they were covered your cheap dental plan would cost much more.
would it really? what if it covered one implant per year?
At 3k a pop your premiums would likely go up around $100-200/month depending on your existing dental health.
Really? That means the average person is getting 1 implant per year. That seems really high to me. I thought the point of insurance was to spread the cost. How many people really get an implant in a given year?

Depends on existing health. Could be 100/month which would be one every 2.5 years. people usually add the benefit when they are anticipating needing it in the near future. Hard to get over on insurance providers.

Went in for my extraction yesterday. Talked with the periodontist for a while. He took more X-rays and did some poking around. New X-ray did not look as bad as previous one. He said maybe some healing had happened. And then he went in for the tooth.

After he pulled the gum line back, he realized that there was not any bone loss as had been previously indicated on X-ray. Earlier X-ray was much darker indicating severe bone loss.

So it appears as though I was mis-diagnosed. And it seems like it was due to poor technical radio graphing. I probably just have a root abscess that needs retreatment. And it is not a root fracture as first diagnosed. I got stitched up, no charge, and now I get to go back in three weeks for more torture.

Paging Dentist, I'm sure this happens, but how often would you say?

I haven't encountered a scenario as you described it before.  I'm not sure how to advise
