Top 10-20 prospects? (1 Viewer)

Ben Carsley's Top 101 Dynasty Prospects lists is up for free on Baseball Prospectus

It's a pretty good list that's tilted toward fantasy production.  He's more bearish on 2015 draft picks than most which makes sense for a list like this but not so much in a deep league where you have to be more aggressive with picking up unproven talent.

Steve Gardner's Top 30 list on USA Today is more typical than Carsley's.
    I find it interesting Tim Anderson is so high and Nick Williams.  I wonder if he's weighting more onto 2016 production as Swanson is lower.

Both Anderson, & Williams are available on waivers.

I own Arcia who is very low on this list.  and Story who is lower.

Stolen base potential boosts Anderson in roto formats, although 8 still seems a little high.

Arcia projects to be a better real-life player than fantasy player. He's very unlikely to bust, but may not have enough power or speed to ever be an elite fantasy contributor.

I'm surprised Story is that low but he's a pretty divisive player. He's the opposite of Arcia, has great fantasy upside but also some holes in his game.

Even in non roto formats, A guy that has power or SB potential is what I'm keying on.

Will be fun managing my prospects all year round, hopefully this thread can stay active with prospect talk.

USA Today's which takes in part fantasy value does have Arcia high.

Anderson is a SS with plus-plus speed and a decent bat.  His absolute best case comp is someone like Jimmy Rollins.  I'll take the under but hope springs eternal when dealing with prospects.

Nick Williams had a very solid year in AA .  Nothing jumps out for me from a fantasy perspective but scouts like him a lot and he has some development potential.  I don't expect to see him until mid-2017.  The Phillies have no reason to rush him.

Gotta admit I feel way too much :nerd:  excitement when I check Fangraphs in mid-July to see how many bases Jorge Mateo stole in A-ball last week. Dynasty isn't for everyone, but to me it's just so much more immersive than a redraft league.

I'll try to contribute to prospect talk throughout the year. Playing in a league based on this forum may affect how much info I want to share at times, but for the most part all the guys worth talking about will already be rostered in that one.

Don't drop De Leon, he will be a super 2 call up at worst.  He's got top 30 pitcher upside, don't sacrifice 2018 so you can stream some dreg in 2016.  You will absolutely regret it.

I was able to trade

Carrasco (682 projected points)

Lucroy (405 projected points)

for Kris Bryant (531 projected points)

Y. Ventura (543 projected points)

I'm now without a catcher.  Which prospect should be dropped for either Gomes or Swihart.

Here's another list that's less oriented toward fantasy than the ones posted yesterday.  They're much higher on Raul Adalberto Mondesi than I've seen anywhere else.  Judge, Kepler and Tim Anderson are major fallers.  They haven't given up on Mark Appel yet and Trent Clark is nowhere to be found.

Victor Robles will be the next great one. It's gonna take a couple of years tho.

I'd drop Reyes.

I'd drop Reyes.
I have seen him as a top 10 prospect all over.  I was thinking De Leon but not sure.

I know he's suspended for 50 games but could get the call up mid next year.  From what I'm reading probably has the best stuff of all the pitchers, just needs to keep his head on straight?

Looking at the way your league operates based on the draft, I doubt he gets picked up by anyone else while he's toiling away during his suspension.

Rodgers is furthest away, like 4 years away.  I'd probably drop him even though he could be a top 5 prospect by next year.  But seeing a full minor league season would be beneficial.

Teams are generally being more aggressive in promoting their top prospects.  Carlos Correa only spent two full seasons in the minors and that included time lost when he broke his leg.  Rodgers could be up anytime after June 2018.

In your format, with your team, I'd rank those prospects you got like this:

Orlando Arcia (me) (22)

Nomar Mazura (me) (24)

Moncada (me)

 T. Story (me) (29)

 Blake Snell (me) (26)

All those except Moncada will see MLB action in 2016, Moncada next year but I'm extra high on him.

De Leon is 2016 also, but the rest of them are likely '17 and beyond.  I think any of these guys can be moved in trades or dropped depending on what they are doing in the minors.  It's a good lot but you probably just have too many of them now that I look at it.

De Leon (me) (30)

Dansby Swanson (me) (23)

Alex Reyes (me) (28)

Andrew Benintendi (me) (27)

Brendan Rodgers (me) (25)

I'd say June 2019, especially since everyone thinks Story is the next Mickey Mantle.

I agree that's probably a more likely scenario but my point is that we're seeing HS prospects reaching the majors in only 1 1/2 to 2 years longer than guys drafted out of college.  Players are reaching the majors in what would have been their Junior season in college.  I still look for college bats but I'm a lot less reluctant to pick and wait for a top HS prospect.

PIK is grabbing guys still in Pony League ball, they're getting younger and younger.

I'd drop Reyes in any other league, but I'd consider dropping Swanson in a league where 10 pitchers outscore Trout.

Decent chance hes he's a boring bat even when he gets here.  Maybe like an Addison Russell?  Useful player even in fantasy, but barely worth waiting on especially in this league. Gl either way

Dropped Benintendi,

Prospect list currently in 12 team 30 player roster points league.

Not yet in the major's that I'm trying to stash all year.

Arcia, Mazara, Moncada, Brendon Rodgers, Swanson, Reyes, Snell, De Leon

Likely dropping De Leon next.

Available-

Benintendi, Devers, Zimmer,  T. Anderson, N. Williams, Meadows, R. Stepheonson.

Any adjusting to be made currently?

What about having to drop one to fill a RP spot.  I have Giles and empty now.   I have a hard time justifying dropping a solid prospect for a RP or a bench player to sub in on off days.

I only have one bench player currently (Story) who I plug in play based on off days (I played him yesterday because of many postponed games.  Everyone else is waiting on call ups.

Update:

Here's who I have stashed after a few trades and moves this year:  Anyone worth adding instead?

Here's who I have that isn't currently in the majors

Arcia, Swanson, B. Rodgers, Alex Reyes, Snell, Beinentendi, Moncada, Buxton

Any of the above should be dropped for?

Musgrove, Contrerars, Anderson, Meadows, Zimmer, Williams, Barreto, Devers, Espinoza, Fulmer.

H2H Points league dynasty, pitchers generally score more (9 starts per week)
